    167 | Triathletes and yoga | Feat. Louise Croxson Jun 23, 2021

I ran a marathon once… Yup, exactly one time. That was my first and it will be my last. But some people LIVE FOR IT! In many cases, these marathoners train year after year all year long. Then, they add in biking and swimming and call it a party! Yes, I’m talking about that unique beast: the triathlete. I never really knew how dedicated you have to be to participate in a triathlon. Nor did I realize how much training is involved. Then I met Louise Croxson.

I have had the privilege of working with Louise as her business coach. What blew me away when we first started working together is how she had this niche in yoga that I have never seen executed before: Yoga for Triathletes! I’ve seen alllllll of the yogas but this one is fresh and frankly super intelligent. Louise is this week's guest on the pod. Tune in for a story about what these amazing athletes do and how yoga supports them in their training. You will certainly pick up some tips and tricks for your own yoga practice (even if you’ve never run a mile)! Enjoy, yogis.

    166 | We're building a home | Feat. Danni + Yvonne Jun 16, 2021

It took me a long time to realize how much I could accomplish simply by putting my mind to it. I never really believed in my potential. And then sometimes when I did consider the incredible things I was manifesting, I failed to take a step back and appreciate how it was my focused attention that brought about all that positive change. The entire time I was comparing myself to others that were “farther along” the path instead of walking my own. And now, for the first time in a long time, I feel like I am truly living. I would not have realized any of this without the time to pause, breathe, and reflect with my best gal pal Yvonne Kingsley who joins me on this podcast.

In this episode, Yvonne takes the wheel. She drives down the windy road of coming to the decision to open a yoga studio in San Francisco. It’s been one hell of a ride already, and now here we are. If you have not had a chance to check us out yet, head over to @haum.sf and say hello!

    165 | It's All Yoga | Feat. Annie Carpenter May 26, 2021

I never really thought a walk in nature was yoga, but it’s true. Any gateway to a mindful side is all a part of the practice. When Annie Carpenter mentioned this to me, it got me curious about other areas that bring us there. You see, Annie has this gift; she’s been teaching for a while and, in my opinion, is one of the titans. She has this special way of inviting you into your body without taking you fully out of the experience. She balances this fine line with grace and ease. It’s truly something special to see.

I am so glad to have her on the show this week. What I loved about our convo is how easy it flowed. We’ve circled around one another in SF, and she’s always been someone I love and respect. She drops some beautiful wisdom about yoga that will make you reflect on all the places yoga truly is (y'all... it's everywhere!). This is one of those episodes that, for me, could have easily gone two hours. Listen and enjoy!

    164 | A Trans Lens in Yoga | Feat. Michelle Crawford May 05, 2021

Being a member of the LGBT+ community has made for some interesting plot twists in my life! It has obviously shaped me in a big way. And, like many of you, there have been a number of times during which I felt unsafe just for being who I am. This has happened as a young man and as an adult. Yoga was one of the places I did feel safe. I recently led a workshop on fostering LGBT+ yoga communities from the lens of my journey, but I know that there are so many amazing queer voices out there. As I build the studio out, I have thought at length about how to ensure it’s a safe space for my LGBT+ brothers and sisters.

Michelle Crawford @mick.crawdad and I met a few years ago as we practiced within the same San Francisco yoga communities. She identifies as trans and kindly agreed to come on the show and share her voice. Her story is incredible and the ways she incorporated yoga on her journey is amazing. The tools of the practice helped her through her transition. She is an advocate for the trans community and continues to serve them in many, many ways. I invite you all to listen and learn from someone I deeply admire. If you’ve ever wanted to hear what bravery sounds like; it’s this. Michelle is brave enough to step into what it means to be authentically her. Tune in for her amazing story! Enjoy.

    163 | Stay in the Stillness| Feat. Rocky Heron Apr 28, 2021

One of the greatest honors in this life is to witness my friends inside their growth process. I often get to see them step into their authentic truth, which is such a gift! Being allowed in to see someone’s life and to hear of all the twists and turns on their path is pretty damn special.

This week's podcast is Part 2 of a check-in with one of my best buds, Rocky Heron @rockyheron. It had been a minute since we’ve podcasted, so we gave each other some air to talk about what is new in each other’s world. What I love about these two conversations with Rocky is how real we kept them. This is an invitation to listen to us express who we truly are in this moment and where we’re both headed on our yoga journeys and in our lives. Tune in and enjoy, yogis.

    162 | Intentional Growth| Feat. Rocky Heron Apr 23, 2021

My mind is still blown by the reality of my opening a yoga studio in San Francisco. I took a moment and reflected back on all the things that have gotten me to this place and this space -- All the boxes I thought I needed to check. All the yoga teachers whose voices I borrowed until I found the power of my own. And, you know what? I wouldn’t take any of it back, because it’s gotten me to this place of deeply knowing my truth and passion. There’s no way around it: I love building community and holding safe space. It brings so much joy into my life.

Rocky Heron @rockyheron and I haven’t done a pod together in a few months, but today we tuned in together. Prepare for the typical shenanigans and some checking in on where we are in life. We both had a few things on the brain, so this is part one of two. This episode shines a light on where I am at with my journey and what I am doing to move forward. Tune in today and watch out for Part 2!

    160 | You Deserve Rest | Feat. Tracee Stanley Apr 07, 2021

How many times have you heard yourself saying “HARD WORK.” Rather let me rephrase that, how many times have you heard me say, “I AM WORKING HARD''. I never once stopped to bother and think, “Why can’t the work be work but not hard all the time?”. Like why is it I have to create even its tone that it’s difficult? Tracee Stanley blew my mind when she brought me to the realization that it doesn’t always have to be hard. That we, in fact, deserve to rest.

How many times did I have to burn out to realize this? (3… 3 is the correct answer in case you were curious...lol) This week on the podcast, I am thrilled to have Tracce back on the show. We met a few years back on the festival circuit. I had heard so much about her but never had the opportunity to practice with her; in fact, I had never even done a nidra before. But when I did, WOW. Just wow. In this episode, we talk about her new book Radiant Rest. It has been such a treat to see her put all her magic into this book. I have already taken a deep dive into it, and I love it so much we’re using it for the next book club in May, so be sure to grab your copy. I know her magic will do wonders for us all. Listen and enjoy.

    159 | Navigating as a Human | Feat. Jack Workman Mar 24, 2021

It’s HARD being human!!!!! Am I right? Navigating what labels society assigns you, navigating the way that others see your physical body (and the way that you see your physical body), navigating any depression or anxiety that comes along with that... You get where I’m going with this, right? I recently had an email come through thanking me for being so courageous and real in my storytelling. It’s important in my teaching and leadership to be authentically me so that others feel seen and represented and not alone. I’m here to share hope and show that there is a path forward towards being our true selves.

This week on the pod, I connect with @jackworkmanyoga, a fellow queer yogi. He brings courage like no other on this episode. He had a recent IG post about his own experience with body image issues and I knew I had to hear him speak more of his truth. Like many of us, Jack has gone through ups and downs, but his reliance shines through. Yoga teaching is not always as glamorous as some people might assume. Listen for yourself... Enjoy the chat with Jack, yogis!

    158 | Hello Shadow Self | Feat. Mia Togo Mar 17, 2021

We call them stories. Or shadows. Sometimes even trauma. We give many names to our life experiences, the ones that have shaped us for the better or worse. Mine include a laundry list of drugs, alcohol and self-inflicted harm. I did most of that, because I truly believed I didn’t deserve any better. I felt that way for a long, long time until I decided to get to know my pain. My shadow and trauma work started in yoga. The practice gave me the container to feel safe enough to hold what was there. As a teacher, I never want to force a student into a pose or position they’re not comfortable or ready for, physically or emotionally. Holding space for all of that requires a certain kind of mindset!

Mia Togo @miatogo and I have been in each other’s orbit and I finally caught up with her to chat and go deeper into the wide world of shadow work. She has a unique gift of creating a container, whether that be in person or in online environments where she helps people feel safe to go in and excavate what is going on inside. On this week's podcast, she and I dive deeper into shadow work and how important this work is. Given the context of our world right now and that we’ve all just been through something that shook up our lives, I found that this episode gave me hope. Listen and enjoy, yogis.

    157 | Yoga Teachers Should Thrive| Feat. Celest Mar 10, 2021

Knowing that I’ve found my passion and what I believe to be my dharma has been a gift; however, I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have made it this far without the guidance of my mentors. I’ve studied myself long enough to know that I can only get so far on my own. When I want to go further, I call on the support and insight from those who have walked the path before me. I not only call on my mentors, but I also call on those loved ones who will call me out on my shit and help keep me honest. I can happily say, “I LOVE WHAT I DO” every single day of my life -- even when it’s hard! This is my dharma and it is purposeful.

Celest Pereira feels the same. I don’t know if she knows this or not, but she was a mentor to me before we ever spoke. Watching her be her authentic self has given me permission to do the same. She’s no stranger to the yoga show, and we’re both super passionate about helping our fellow yoga teachers turn their passion or niche into a decent living. She has this way of being inspiring even when she’s not trying to be. If you’re a yoga teacher, listen to this episode! If you know a yoga teacher, send them this episode! Celest and I jump into why yoga teachers should adopt a thrive-mindset towards their business. Sometimes all we need is a little nudge in the right direction to get moving. Listen and enjoy, yogis.

    156 | Zoom Yoga Injuries | Feat. Dani Ibarra Mar 02, 2021

I’m injured…. again. Yoga isn’t feeling good in my body (at least flow yoga anyway). I have a little bit of blame on ZOOM, but I do take full responsibility for my current injuries. It’s my own dang fault for not learning when to take a break. I often preach to students that you can make the practice yours by adjusting the intensity and I have never really thought about making that choice in my teaching practice. Why not give myself permission and lead by example? I feel like my injury came at the right time since I’m in an online teacher training that’s a bit slower than my normal vinyasa-based flow stuff and it’s slowing me down. Forcing me to pay attention.

Dani Ibarra is one of those humans I call a COVID blessing. She’s one of the main teachers in a teacher training program that I am a part of right now. She’s a seasoned teacher who studied with someone whom I have always admired over my yoga career, Maty Ezraty. In this episode of SEEKER + SAGE she points out how we need to adjust both our practice and our teaching to fit the landscape of what the world is right now. Like me, she too has some COVID injuries. We get deep into how to take care of yourself as a teacher and a student participating in ZOOM yoga. Tune in and listen to the wisdom of my sister from another mister!

    155 | The T Word, Trauma | Feat. Jennifer Harper Feb 28, 2021

The T-word is out this week! TRAUMA... We've all got it. And although it's sometimes hard to talk about, it's important to acknowledge it. I'd never heard of Jennifer Harper before, but this wonderful human is helping kids and adults unpack this thing we call trauma. And she is getting us a bit more in tune with what's going on inside of ourselves. This is one of those episodes where I sat back and took notes the entire time! Listen, learn, and enjoy!

    154 | Yoga Deconstructed | Feat. Trina Altman Feb 17, 2021

I've always considered myself an asana-based teacher. And, for the most part, I just “get it” when it comes to postural alignment. As a vinyasa junkie, I am always looking for new ways to apply modern movement science to the way I teach classes and lead my yoga teacher trainings. My teaching completely changed a few years back thanks to the lovely human behind Yoga Deconstructed®. She made me fall in love with asana all over again!

If you're not following Trina Altman @trinaaltman, you should start now. This week she's back on the SEEKER + SAGE pod and she's got some big news! I for one am super proud of her and selfishly so happy that she WROTE A BOOK! I picked her new read up and truthfully could not put it down until I finished it. One of my favorite parts about hosting this podcast is hosting amazing yogis and business minds with so much knowledge to pass on. Trina is no exception! Tune into the show and listen to her amazing journey! Oh, and pick up the book! You'll thank yourself later. Listen and enjoy.

153 | Black Boys OM | Fiecre Calm #yogasavedmylife Feat. Danny Fluker Feb 10, 2021

You have probably been able to tell that a big part of my journey recently is the practice of anti-racism. It took me a while to realize how much simply presenting as white can shape and change someone’s daily life. This realization has helped me learn and grow and it has also shifted the way I run a few things in my life. One of the things I'm fully committed to is opening up gateways to bring more yogis of all colors into the fold. One way I’m excited to do right away is to use my platforms to raise up other BI-POC, queer, trans and other unheard voices.

This week on the Seeker+Sage podcast I had the honor of interviewing Danny Fluker. Danny is an incredible human who is also driven to bring yoga out into the world -- specifically to men of color. We get down into the nitty-gritty of his purpose and his mission. He shares his story on how yoga has helped shape his life. This is one of those episodes I had to playback to just deeply hear his message and get all those awesome nuggets. A big shout to our friends Fierce Calm for making this connection and helping others be heard. Tune in and enjoy, yogis.

152 | Everyone Deserves to Feel Better | Feat. Tara Stiles Feb 03, 2021

Looking back at 2020, the thing I can recall most was my depression in the middle of last summer and how badly I wanted out... no matter what it took. I knew I was either going to do something incredibly self-destructive or something that would change my life for the better. I sat with this choice and came to the conclusion that I was worthy of better. In fact, I knew I deserved it. It's not easy, but I took the necessary steps to change up my routine and simplify my life. And this podcast speaks to just that - the value of your worth and the steps to take to feel at your best. On this week's episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with Tara Stiles, she is an author and true believer in the notion that everyone deserves to feel better. She believes this so much, she wrote THE book about it. She shares her tools on how to help us return home to ourselves. Tara and I must have been separated at birth. The moment we started speaking on this week's podcast, I knew she was a true Sage. Tara is down-to-earth, real, and gives it to you how it is, which can be hard to come by in the yoga world. Stick around for the end, where she ends the show with a sweet mini-meditation.

151 | From Misfit to Sage | Danni Gets Interviewed Jan 27, 2021

There are some big changes happening over in the land of Danni Pomplun. This week on the show I'm interviewed by the one and only Steven Andrew @stevenandrewyoga. Some of you might know Steven as my go-to sub when I can't be with you for class. He's definitely saved the day a few times in my life and has definitely been a true support when I needed it. He's not only seen the evolutions of my own life but also of the community as well. I feel really comfortable with Steven and he got me to open up and share where I'm going this year and how I came to those realizations. I gave myself permission to be vulnerable and hope this gives others permission to do the same.

And BONUS alert! Book Club is back this month along with a FREE Anatomy Webinar with me and the incomparable Derek Cook. Head to the new Seeker + Sage Facebook Group for details.

150 Back to Breath| Fierce Calm #yogasavedmylife Feat. Richie Bostock Jan 20, 2021

Richie Bostock has popped in and out of my world for a little over a year now. My friends over at Fierce Calm @fiercecalm mentioned that we HAD to sync up and I am so happy we did. As one does, we got him to come on the podcast to chat with us about his wellness path. He brings breath work practice into the day to day similarly to how I bring yoga into the day to day. It's always interesting for me to hear what tools have been successful in helping others to achieve balance, grounding, and self-care. Yoga has many ways of doing this, but Richie has taken what he's learned and gave this practice an approach of his own. I got to experience it myself firsthand, and it's pretty freaking amazing! Stick around for the end of the show, where he guides us into an awesome breathing session.

149 | Checking in with Danni | Feat. Sheri Colosimo Jan 13, 2021

Oh wow... Y'all this episode is a doozy. Listen, when I say something is tough for me, it's REALLY tough for me. In this week's Seeker+Sage, I share about living through one of my WORST NIGHTMARES. Even while opening up about this moment in my life, I quickly started to feel that dreadful shame monster creeping in. You know the one... The one that causes anxiety, internalized judgment, and debilitating fear... Ugh, I hate that thing! Gawd! Luckily, I was quickly reminded that I AM HUMAN by one of my favorite people on the planet. My good gal pal and leadership coach Sheri Colosimo is on this week and she takes us on a deeper dive into the world and transformation of the Danni you see before you today. Sheri has known me for almost a decade and has truly been there through thick and thin. She always has a way of reminding me that sh*t happens; it's our ability to not be defined by our own internal judgments that allow us to grow and move on. Needless to say, however, it's still a pretty funny story.

Last year was full of growth for me and I am slowly learning how to operate as a whole - as my true self. Sheri and I go there... to the dark places of my journey. This episode is real, raw, and 100% me. No shame. No holding back. Just me.

148 Online Teacher Trainings Feat. Adam Carney Jan 06, 2021

And the podcast is back! Phew! Getting back from my two-week break and I'm feeling pumped. The first show of the year features Adam Carney from Yoga East+West. Truthlyfully. I have been dying to talk to another teacher about their experience with online yoga teacher training since this whole Covid thing struck.

Adam runs a well know teacher training company that I truly respect and admire. He offers a solid quality product, experience, and journey for new students looking to become teachers. We get to chatting a bit about what we currently see on IG from teachers and how we feel about programs being offered and how we can learn, grow, and do better for our own programs. Adam was super insightful and helped me see through some of my own judgments and also speaks to how he decided to do things differently. Look, I have a ton of opinions on this subject right now and I don't think mines are any better or any worse than others. I'm excited for you to check out what we have to say and to meet Adam. He's a great guy doing it right.

    146 | Fierce Calm #yogasavedmylife | Feat. Melanie McKinney Dec 09, 2020

This episode features one of my favorite collaborations. We partner with Fierce Calm who is a non-profit organization, sharing community yoga saved my life stories, and supporting charities which make yoga accessible to all. Melanie is an ambassador for Fierce Calm and shares her #yogasavedmylife story during this episode. Melanie started teaching yoga in Afghanistan to military service members and civilians. She then got certified in Thailand, while there she was eating clean, and unknowingly at the same time she also had cancer. So, four months after she received her yoga certification, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Yoga tools such as breath work, meditation, movement, are tools that she used to get through one of the toughest times of her life. Listen to her story now!

In this episode of Dharma Dudes, Rocky and I discuss all the things that are going on in the world right now including the epic social movement and pandemic. As yoga teachers we ask ourselves, how should we show up right now? There’s lots of conflict and opposing opinions. It takes listening to ourselves and others AND doing the work. There’s the inner work and there’s the outer work. And as uncomfortable as it may be, we gotta do both. Tune into the convo and listen to how we are learning, growing, and showing up in the yoga world.

    124 | And We're Back | Feat. Max Kellogg Jun 18, 2020

And we're back... We decided it was a good time to take a week off the show so we could LISTEN, REFLECT and LEARN. This week I brought a good friend of mine on the show. Ladies and Gentlemen introducing Max Kellogg. In today’s session, we had a real conversation with one another about the state of the world. Max shares about his dancing project that keeps him full of joy and I cover my new cooking passion. We talk about what keeps us nourished and brings us joy. We discuss how to keep this movement and momentum sustainable. Look into how COVID made us take a seat and how it truly made the world look at the deep issues that have been turning a blind eye to. This show gives a glimpse into really how amazing it is to be a human being on the planet right now. So much is changing but for all the right reasons. We have passed the tipping point and we can only move forward. But what does that look like? We discuss how it has been challenging to really ground in this moment and be actually present on the mat outside of work. This episode looks at how important returning to the breath can be and to really use each inhale and exhale to bring about change. The world is still turning, yogis.

You guys, Tommy Rosen is in the house! And he is up to A LOT, we dive into the world of addiction and recovery. Tommy shares about his past and also about his Recovery 2.0 program which gets under the layers of addiction and discovers what we are really running from. We discuss the great problem of addiction, and how underneath it are core issues that need to be dealt with and learning how to transform starts with breath. In addition to breath, it takes owning your stuff and taking responsibility for your feelings, emotions, and actions. We talk about how taking personal responsibility is difficult; but it's better to change than stay ignorant. You guys HAVE to listen to this one. It hit home for me and I’m sure you will resonate with this episode too.

    122 | Shadow Work | Feat. Sianna Sherman May 27, 2020

Sianna is a wonderful human being and we have the honor of guiding mutual students that practice with both of us! It was really cool to connect with Sianna. We discuss shadow work and for me, it’s a pretty new concept. It’s very interesting; becoming aware of the different side of ourselves that may be neglected. When we shine light on that side, we become more intimate with that part of our being. Shadow work tends to have fear or uncertainty behind it – yet, our own power lives in our shadows when we uncover it. If we are not paying attention to shadow, if left unattended, it begins to run our lives. It’s important to show all parts of ourselves and be brave enough to be vulnerable. This episode will rock your world and interviewing Sianna truly inspired me and I’m sure it will inspire you too. Listen now!

Davina is also a lululemon ambassador and Fierce Calm ambassador. 118 | Fierce Calm #yogasavedmylife | Feat. Maude Hirst Apr 29, 2020

Today is a Fierce Calm Collaboration, one of my FAVORITE episodes to do! Maude Hirst has a rad story! She is a past actor that has changed her life through meditation and yoga! Ten years into her acting career she reflected on her life, then suddenly realized that she was just repeating patterns of self-destructive behavior. She had to move on from an unhealthy relationship and had to reflect on if her career was the best for her. A quote that she lives by is feel the fear and do it anyway. The vulnerability she found in yoga inspired her to continue in the practice, it enables her to feel loved, heard and seen. During a yoga retreat she reached a deeper level of self awareness and concluded that it was her job to speak her truth and live her truth.

This episode offers a new perspective on how to optimize your health and life as a yogi. Andy is super smart and dialed in to the most current information on blue light and how it’s affecting our circadian rhythm which, when out of balance, can make us tired and forgetful. 111 | Own Your $#iT | Feat. Les Leventhal Mar 11, 2020

I am so excited to interview Les Leventhal in today’s session. I first met Les in San Francisco when he was teaching out here. He is unlike anyone else and is hands down the most grounded and down to earth person. He recently wrote a book where he talks about how he was an alcohol-abusing porn star and how he became a beloved, world-famous yoga teacher. In his inspiring memoir, Two Lifestyles, One Lifetime, Les Leventhal reveals his desperate and wildly self-destructive attempts to grasp at self-worth in a turbulent, hostile environment. His story is raw and honest. When I read his book my jaw was on the floor. His story is inspiring to say the least. You will enjoy this episode. I love my podcast collaboration with Fierce Calm! Everything they do is so freaking cool and uplifting! Zephyr Wildman is an ambassador with Fierce Calm and I’m honored to have her on the show. She is a knowledgeable yogi and human based in London. She has an INCREDIBLE story about how yoga came into her life and helped her through the suffering and dark times. I met her in person last year in London at a yoga festival. The moment I met her, I was so inspired by her realness and outstanding attitude. She is brilliant, brave, and honest – you gotta listen to her story.

109 | Dharma Dudes: Morning Ritual | Feat. Rocky Heron Feb 26, 2020

Today’s podcast will change your life, and change your day. I am always so honored to have Rocky on the show – on this episode we sat down and discussed our morning rituals. What we do, how we stay consistent and WHY we do it. Rocky mentioned that the morning is the best place to set the tone for the whole day. It is the most important time to reset the old patterns that don’t serve you and be proactive about how you want to spend the day. We have to be gentle with ourselves in the morning in order to take care of our spirit. Listen to the podcast and then let us know, what is your morning ritual?

    108 | We're All Connected | Feat. Dana Trixie Flynn Feb 19, 2020

Hey Tribe! Today I had an EPIC conversation with Dana Trixie Flynn, one of the most inspiring yoga teachers out there. Dana owns TWO yoga studios. One is called The Church of Yoga in New Orleans and the other is called Laughing Lotus, which has various locations including San Francisco. She has been teaching over 28 years. She brings so much wisdom and happiness to this episode. This convo was also REALLY COOL because I got to meet Dana IRL aka IN REAL LIFE! She just happened to be in San Francisco. She came over to my apartment, and we had a rad conversation about being connected and the importance of laughing together. She is an amazing human and an outstanding yoga teacher that understands yoga from the deepest perspective. We discuss all things yoga and how to step into our own individual awesomeness. She also presents a great reminder that joy is now and how we are all connected. EnJOY this episode.

    107 | Beginners Yoga | Feat. Mary Ochsner Feb 12, 2020

I am so honored to have my new friend Mary Ochsner on the show!

Mary and I met through the guys that helped to create our apps and then connected through Instagram! We then met IRL when she visited San Francisco! We became friends and enjoy talking about all things yoga. What really sparked my interest about Mary was that she creates the awesome tutorials for all yogis. She makes yoga really accessible to beginners and is really passionate about getting people on their mat. She reassures all of her students that it is okay to be in their bodies exactly as they are. It’s an honor and pleasure to have her on the show.

105 | Dharma Dudes: Language in Yoga | Feat. Rocky Heron Jan 29, 2020

This episode we discuss the important of language. Language is powerful for both students and teachers and as teachers we have a responsibility to ourselves and the yoga students to be authentic and cautious with what we say. We also discuss the importance of always being a student and practicing from your own inner wisdom when the words of the teacher doesn’t resonate with you.

    100 | 100th episode special | Feat. ME! Dec 04, 2019

Can you believe it! We made it to 100 episodes!

It's been a whirlwind of real talk on the past 100 episodes with the most inspirational yoga leaders. It feels really good to normalize certain conversations and shed light on those places in the yoga world that some shy away from.

In today's show Susannah interviews me on the highlights that have happened since we started this podcast 3 years ago. I reveal my top two favorite guests that I've had on the show (even though we don't have favorites). I also share the plans for this podcast moving forward and who my next dream podcasts guests would be.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing up and listening in. Cheers to the next 100 shows.

If we haven't yet, let's meet in person! Join me in Portugal for my retreat in April! Let's live this life together. https://dannipomplun.com/yoga-offerings/retreats/

    99 | A Year Later | Feat. Krista Ripma Nov 27, 2019

Krista is a heart centered business owner and entrepreneur. She is real, raw, and authentic. She was on our show last year and to hear where she's at one year later is inspiring. There's been so much shift and change for the both of us.

The biggest is that we both needed to create space for ourselves and learn how to reset. We reflected a ton on some major lessons from this past year. We get into success versus happiness and how to stay on track.

One note that I heard from Krista - Choose everyday to be authentic. The more honest we are with ourselves. The more it will trigger other people. Be you and take care of yourself to shine.

98 | Sitting is Killing you | Feat. Tristan Gatto Nov 20, 2019

As I was recording this podcast, I had a hard time believing that it's almost episode 100. So thankful to have this strong community supporting the show!

Speaking of, today is episode 98 and one of the coolest teachers I've met in a long time is on with us. Tristan Gatto shares his journey with yoga and physical therapy. He's married them together to get people healthy in their bodies.

I have seen this trend of yoga moving into functional movements and it's super cool to get his perspective on it. He is not only supporting practitioners but teachers as well, offering programs to help them deepen their knowledge of the body. These programs also give teachers shill to work with private clients in a smart and accessible way.

90 | Dharma Dudes: Burning Man Recap | Feat. Rocky Heron Sep 25, 2019

Welcome back to Dharma Dudes. Rocky and I are back from the Playa and were recapping from our time at Burning Man.

    • Burning Man can be such an experience, not only going to it but leading up to it. We talk about the different camps, the art that is created, but also all the people that come together to join in. It’s a great digital detox from the world.
    • No cellphone service, no email- it was such an amazing time. We tend to do a lot in our lives to keep it moving. But during this week, there wasn’t any of that, just all of us coming together.
    • The community that comes together for Burning man is one of the greatest experiences. The different walks of life converging for a week together. Not only this year but all the years that we’ve individually made the journey with.

    89 | Foundations Before Vinyasa | Feat. Tim Senesi Sep 18, 2019

Foundations before Vinyasa with Tim Senesi

We’re taking it back to basics today. Tim Senesi is an Orange County yoga teacher and joins in today to talk about the importance of a fundamental practice.

    • We’ve seen the advanced yoga practices and poses, and we’ve also wondered how we can get into it. Creating a solid foundation before we start to advance our practice. Even chaturanga can be an advanced asana, when the foundation hasn’t been built around it.
    • Sometimes we forget the basics of where our practice comes from and want to dig into tapas- the burning desire to deepen the yoga practice and how to set that aside from the ego. Knowing that yoga should be there to keep us healthy.
    • Tim shares what he is working on when teaching online, and in his group classes. Sharing how important standing postures can be, even when we start to look at arm balances.

Tribe, one of the reasons why I love doing this podcast is because of all the people I get to share with you.

Today I have the pleasure of talking to not one, but two amazing women. Adell Brides and Celest Pereria. Together they are the creators of Hypermobile Yogis and are out to educate the yoga world on hyper-mobility.

We all love a flexy stretch in our practice-but how good for our bodies can it really be? We talk about the importance of understanding the difference, in our asana practice, when it comes to flexibility and mobility in the body, but more specifically the joints.

They also share the community of hypermobile yogis from around the world all discovering this in their practice. We talk about the awareness around this topic and how it can start to transform our practice into a more intelligent practice.

87 | The Science of Breath | Feat. Eddie Stern Sep 04, 2019

The Science of Breath with Eddie Stern

Welcome back Tribe, today Eddie Stern joins and he’s giving away secrets on the science of breathing.

He is the author of One Simple Thing: A New Look at the Science of Yoga and How It Can Transform Your Life and world-traveling yoga teacher.

    • We dive into his book, One Simple Thing, how his interest in science lead him to start to research and study the ideas that K. Pattabhi Jois passed down to him. After a researcher approached him about a study in hypertensive conditions in African Americans.
    • With this first study, he continued to study the physical and mental health changes in different people across all forms of asana practice. Researching the underlying mechanisms of the effects of yoga, leading to the creation of his book.
    • Eddie also breaks down the neurological reactions that yoga can have on the body. What happens in the body as we start to not only work on the asana aspect of the practice but the pranayama or breath work.

Stay tuned too as he walks us through a brief breathing exercise.

Come join One Love on September 28th in San Fransisco. My annual charity event helping support housing and resources to homeless youth in the Mission.

Find out where Eddie is teaching and grab a copy of his book.

86 | Dharma Dudes: Burn Out | Feat. Rocky Heron Aug 28, 2019

So how do the Dharma Dudes handle burn out? Yes, we all have been there, we’ve all experienced it. Well, that’s what Rocky and I talk about today. How we get there, to how we help ourselves out of the burn out.

    • We talk about how when we start to add different elements into our life, or just into our daily schedule it can start to become taxing on the body and mind. How that can evolve into a burn out, but also how these repetitive actions can fortify our minds for the next time we start to feel a burn out coming.
    • Rocky and I also share what we can do to help get out of the burn out feeling. Reaching out to other people and friends to talk to can be a healthy way to connect with how we feel. Taking a step back and looking at what is happening around us can be a healthy way to understand what got us to the burn out point.
    • We also dive into the different ways a burn out effects but also evolves our personal practice. Sharing how we nourish the body through asana, pranayama, journaling, and other means to step away from asking for more from ourselves.

One way to help come out of a burn is to retreat yourself. Don't forget you can join Rocky and I for a New Years Retreat.

     84 | Fierce Calm #yogasavedmylife | Feat. Gianna Purcell Aug 15, 2019

Welcome to another collaboration episode with Fierce Calm. This week Gianna stops by to share her story of finding yoga.

Hearing stories like Gianna, is one of the reasons why I love doing this podcast. Creating space for others to come and share their incredible stories. Like Gianna's story, Nicole and Robyn also stop by to share their stories of how #yogasavedmylife. Check out what Gianna is sharing today:

    • Coming to yoga from working in a salon, Gianna shares her how she started to discover her personal self during the beginning of her asana practice. The stories from her personal life and self-discovery are something a lot of us can relate and connect to. But also how yoga had given her an open space to experience more life.

    • As Gianna puts in her own words, pain is pain, it registers different for everyone and it becomes the focus at the current time. Using her practice of asana as a way of recovery from a motorcycle accident and helping others discover that recovery through asana is possible.

    Online Content with Henry Winslow

Welcome back Tribe, this week I'm joined by Henry Winslow. Sharing his stories on creating online content full of classes and podcasts.

It was such a pleasure to have him on today and talk about using technology as a way to share the message of yoga.

    82 | Teaching Teachers | Feat. Noah Maze Aug 01, 2019

Tribe, I am so excited to have my teacher Noah Maze on today, sharing his stories, what mentorship is like and the natural progress of seeking more knowledge.

Noah and I dive into what it's like teaching teachers, but also the natural progression in learning that happens within us as we start to deepen our quest for knowledge. Noah also shares:

    • What the Maze Method is, and how it was developed from his 20 years of practicing and teaching yoga practices. There's a dynamic transformation that happens when people come together to learn to teach yoga. Whether they come to a teacher training to deepen their practice or come to want to learn how to teach.
    • What it means to learn how to learn and the process of meeting someone where they are in their learning needs. Noah shares the value in variability when we step out of the comfort zone and enter the world of teaching and learning. But also finding the gaps in the knowledge and using that to help find our unique strengths.

Summer Series with Shut Up and Yoga

Tribe, Summer Series with Shut Up and Yoga is here and this week Allison Pots joins to talk about meditation.

Allison drops in today to talk about meditation, and how our life around us or the practice is actually just a piece of it. When we come into the mind, the body is also affected by it, in a positive manner. Allison, a writer for Shut Up and Yoga is also a meditation and wellness coach. Enjoy listening to share some amazing tips as well as:

    • How the distractions that arise in a meditation practice are there to help. She dives into how to let the thoughts be part of the natural process in meditation. From creating lists, or thinking about going to the grocery store; these thoughts help nourish the mind into a meditative state.
    • The joys of meditation are enjoyed while we are awake, there is also this experience when we are asleep. Tapping into a deeper connection within the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and digest system, through intuitive meditation. Allowing the conscious thoughts to be part of the organic process.

Don’t forget you can join me in Todos Santos, Mexico for a New Years Retreat.

Welcome back Tribe to another episode of the summer series with Shut Up and Yoga.

Garrett Neill joins today to talk about the beauty of functional movement, and its value in yoga.

Garrett is an author and writer for Shut Up and Yoga. As a Chiropractor, he has extensive knowledge of anatomy and function of the body. Drop and enjoy listening to:

    • Garrett and I talk about what books he's currently reading and nerding over. How he uses his book in knowledge in classes, but also which ones he recommends. From anatomy to books just on the spine, he shares some awesome books.
    • We also talk about where the line is when we teach asana or teach movement-based classes. The functional movement that comes out of each practice, but also how we find the yoga in each. He shares his insight on practices that allow us to pause and sit with ourself after whether movement-based or asana based.

    SS2 | False Gurus & Yoga Addiction | Feat. Paul McQuillan Jul 10, 2019

Welcome back Tribe to another episode of the summer series with Shut Up and Yoga. Today Paul McQuillan joins today to talk about false gurus and yoga addiction.

From personal experiences with his yoga teacher training to why we as teachers get viewed as gurus, Paul McQuillan joins me today to talk about:

    • How it's okay to say "I don't know." When were approached with questions about things we are unsure of or don't know about, those three magical words still show that we aren't all knowing.
    • What it means to be viewed as a glorified teacher, or even some times as a doctor or guru, and how we keep a healthy awareness that we don't always know. That it's okay for us not to know as yoga teachers because we facilitate yoga and not a medical practice.
    • While more and more students and teachers alike grow to ask more questions rather than just be taught at, we talk about what that means for the yoga community. Paul also shares his stories on what it means to take care of the collective energies in the room and leading not from a non-militant standpoint as a teacher.

    81 | Dharma Dudes: Pride - Being a Queer Yogi | Feat. Rocky Heron Jun 26, 2019

Happy Pride Tribe! Dharma Dudes is back.

Some strong language is used, with talk about drug use. These talks come from an authentic place, alongside our typical banter. Rocky Heron and I explore how we experience the balance between being in the world as queer men, but also as a yoga teacher.

As queer men and growing into ourselves, sometimes it involves turning away from expectations and social norms. Trying on different hats and experiencing the yogic path that we enjoy. We talk about the dichotomy of what is being a yoga teacher and a queer man, with the worldly views of both.

Yoga doesn't say that you can't practice it if you enjoy other things that are outside the studio life. As queer men, we have experiences that we have to bring into this world. Knowing where we live, and what is viewed as acceptable practices. By experiencing them we start building the vocabulary around them, and conversations that involve them.

80 | Forrest Yoga Now | Feat. Ana Forest + Jose Calarco Jun 19, 2019

Tribe, this week I'm joined by Ana Forest of Forrest Yoga and Jose Calarco.

Meeting in an elevator by chance, Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco start by sharing their mystical story of how they meet. The magical weave of time that placed them together at particular moments in their life. Each sharing the story from their point in life and how the first time they meet was a divine gift.

Listen to the astounding stories of each of their personal studies before the union, to the link and entanglement of them as they grew to know each other. Putting a calling out into the universe, and the thoughts and actions making its way back to both Ana and Jose. Sometimes as a bolt of lightning into the soul, or the sound of a didgeridoo to the heart.

Finding such a spiritual connection within each other and how they have woven their experiences into the layers of Forrest Yoga. This divine, deep connection that brought the two of them together, creates such a profound experience just listening to it.

79 | Yoga Saved My Life | Feat. Melanie Klein & Jennifer Kreatsoulas Jun 12, 2019

Tribe, welcome back to another collaboration with Fierce Calm #yogasavedmylife.

I love doing shows with Fierce Calm and the platform that was created around it. If you haven’t listened to previous episodes with Fierce Calm, it's a great way to share these stories of how yoga saved the lives of different people from around the world. That’s exactly what I’m talking about today with Melanie Klein & Jennifer Kreatsoulas.

Both Jennifer and Melanie share a similar story as to how yoga had a positive impact on their lives. Coming both from athletics as well as a world of body images ideas for women. Sharing these similarities helps bring light and normalization to these conversations. Julia and Melaine talk about what they have used and still use to this day to share empowering messages and help the lives around them.

They share the knowledge of asana, which is one of many tools we have in our toolbox as yoga teachers. Jennifer, Melanie and I dive into how not only asana, pranayama, meditation and other aspects of yoga help live yoga on and off the mat. From daily practices, to what they’re studying and even finding the value in just taking a quick breath in the middle of the day. These tools we have can help shift and change our lives, and even save them.

77 | Diversity in Yoga | Feat. Kelley Carboni Woods May 29, 2019

Hey tribe, this week I'm joined by the amazing Kelley Carboni Woods. Kelley is the "Peace Filled Mama" and is on a mission to empower woman and people of color in her community. We talk about the ability to create equitable access to resources for black communities and her drive to make this happen.

One of the reasons I love hosting this show is because of the platform it creates for others to share their voice. It's a gift and a please to host conversations I feel should be brought to light with an open heart and an open mind. We dive deeper into the privilege of yoga and how it can be really unaccessable to those that don't share that privilege.

Kelley drives her mission to empower the people of color community of all body types, current life situations and past to have a dedicated space for the healing of the community. When she speaks to her missions, she lives every moment of it and from that manifests the ability to provide this for her community. Listen and enjoy.

    76 | Yoga Deconstructed | Feat. Trina Altman May 22, 2019

Tribe, this week I am joined by the amazing Trina Altman. She has reshaped how I teach. Being such a fan of hers, I couldn’t wait to jump into this and talk to her about her course Yoga Deconstructed.

Coming from the fashion industry and seeing designers who deconstructed fashion, by putting stitches on the outside of the pants, she wanted to understand how that could translate into the body. Not only with yoga, but Pilates as well.

Developing courses, that are structured around the critical thinking skills, deeper anatomy of the body, and understanding the individual goals of the students rather than the standard vinyasa classes. We dive into what deconstruction is in yoga, Pilates as well as physical therapy. How interdisciplinary training and teachings come into play for all.

    Enjoy!

75 | Get To Know Dylan | Feat. Dylan Werner May 15, 2019

    Tribe,

If you haven't found Dylan, he's a "100% of time traveling" yoga teacher. Joining this weeks episode, he shares with us a look into how he became the traveling teacher. When job loss hit him, he took his part-time yoga teaching with him to Los Angeles. With a home base following, to Youtube videos and finding the opportunity to continue his journey, traveling and teaching combined in one life.

We talk about how he stopped looking into the future, trying to find a place that yoga would lead him, but rather polishing the mirror of the experience of it. How letting go of looking to prove himself to others but realizing he was trying to prove it to himself. Dylan shares with us books he's reading, what he's geek-ing out over, and expands on what he's been teaching.

For today's episode I had the pleasure of sharing Mariel Whitmond's journey. A yoga teacher that has an inspiring and empowering story on how she found value in herself rather than looking for it in others.

Battling health complications, self-worth, and self-acceptance, she decided to stop living her life for other people. Changing her high-stress job in the fashion industry, focusing on her health. She took her teacher training just after two years of the journey of self-discovery. Capturing the value of human connection, and sharing her compassion for it. From a place of feeling lonely to finding how to empower others to feel that they are not.

Stay tuned to hear more stories from Blair Sanning and Cara Forrester.

    72 | Yoga History Debunked | Feat. Colin Hall Apr 24, 2019

    Hey tribe,

For this week's session, we have the hugely interesting Colin Hall. Colin is a super smart guy who really knows his stuff about yoga philosophy. Join us as we do a deep dive into philosophy, history and the current state of yoga.

This session was great for me as I personally struggled with yoga philosophy when I first began as the concepts seemed so large and overwhelming so it's amazing to talk to someone like Colin who can break it down and present it in an accessible way.

Hope you guys enjoy nerding out with us.

71 | The Art of Chanting | feat. Janet Stone Apr 17, 2019

I'm honored to have Janet Stone, AKA Mama Stone, on the show this week. She's the one who helped to demystify chanting when before I used to be afraid of it and make fun of it. We sit down and chat about how motherhood and raising her daughters have influenced her yoga practice and her teaching, as well as how chanting is a gateway to opening within. We also talk about bhakti, the yoga of devotion, and how it calls for all of us to acknowledge all of our emotions, instead of suppressing them.

Chanting in Sanskrit has a special vibrational quality with none of its previous associations you might have attached. Despite chanting to various deities, or calling forth for a certain energy, it is an invocation to draw inward and start over again, and again, and again--and it doesn't matter if you are a singer or not. Next time you chant, see the emotional and physical changes that may arise.

Tune in, and let's sing together!

    70 | Fierce Calm - #yogasavedmylife | feat. Hannah Barrett Apr 10, 2019

Tribe, I'm honored to present to you the collaboration between the Yogi Misfit Sessions and Fierce Calm. Each month, we'll bring you a compelling story about how yoga has saved a life, with bonus mini stories on yoga's ability to heal and transform.

This session, I got to chat with Yoga Girl London, Hannah Barrett. We talk about how yoga entered her life, how it helped her during her pregnancies, especially after the birth of her second child. Her daughter Emily was born premature and the pregnancy leading up to her birth was very concerning. With this experience, Hannah now advocates for awareness on PTSD and post-natal depression and wrote an e-book called Strength Through Yoga sharing knowledge from what she underwent.

My friends at Fierce Calm are a growing collective of yoga practitioners from all backgrounds and abilities who have each identified with the words 'Yoga Saved My Life' and come together as a movement to inspire & empower each other without judgment and with compassion. This is something that I think we can all stand behind.

    69 | Being Spiritually Fly | Feat. Faith Hunter Apr 03, 2019

Yogis, meet the incredibly kind and amazing Faith Hunter. I credit her with really helping me to make the jump into teaching yoga with her encouragement. For this session, we talk about dealing with her brother's battle with HIV and the huge role yoga had in her life with questioning her belief in spirituality, and what it's like to lose someone to this virus. Committing to a practice both on a physical and spiritual level, Faith was able to re-establish her connection to God, and how time to yourself is a personal haven.

We also talk about what it means to be "spiritually fly," and how being spiritually fly can show up in someone's life. Meditation is also a huge component of this practice--Faith gives her best advice to starting a meditation practice and maintaining one, letting it feel like drinking water instead of a chore. To complement daily meditation, Faith created the Shades of Soul Meditation Journal inspired by her cousin and infused with her original poems to promote healing, connection, and elevation.

    68 | Music & Yoga: A spiritual Connection | Feat. Cristi Christensen Mar 27, 2019

My guest for this session is fellow house music lover Cristi Christensen. I knew I'd vibe with her immediately because we both value music as a connection conduit to ourselves, others, and our students. She hosts this event called Deep Exhale in LA in partnership with house DJ Marques Wyatt which combines music and fluid movement as an emotional and physical release for the body, as well as a safe space to just be. We discuss how dance is a spiritual experience and how it's awesome somatic therapy that can take the place of other vices we are prone to turn to.

    BC:03 | Book Club | The Alchemist Mar 20, 2019

Hey yogis! By now, we've finished reading book #3 of the Yogi Misfit Book Club, The Alchemist. If you haven't yet finished it--no worries! Keep on keepin' on but there are spoilers ahead!

This session, I talk about the story of the Alchemist. If metaphorical stories or self-help books are not your jam, this book will not be for you. The Alchemist is a novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. Originally written in Portuguese, has become an international bestseller and has been translated into over 65 languages. As an allegorical story, The Alchemist follows a young Andalusian shepherd named Santiago in his journey to the pyramids of Egypt, after having a recurring dream of finding a treasure there.

Some things that stood out to me were following your dreams with a sense of responsibility and how love should always be supportive. The biggest thing that really struck me was also about being in the present and in the moment, going through the process that will get you towards your end goal.

What were some things that stood out to you? Let me know in the Yogi Misfits Facebook group!

Stay tuned for the next book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S67 Sri Dharma Mittra Mar 13, 2019

I am beyond honored to have Sri Dharma Mittra on the podcast this week. A former body builder, jiu jitsu practitioner, and wrestler, Sri Dharma moved from his home country of Brazil to New York City with the help of his brother to study with Yogi Gupta. He then went on to assist Yogi Gupta and found the Dharma Yoga New York Center.

We talk about doing all things with compassion (and understanding that it starts from a place of ethics), the importance of studying scripture, where to start with studying the scriptures, and understanding the yamas and niyamas.

Being healthy (by way of a vegan diet), having a sense of self-control, being dedicated to a teacher, and observing the 8-Limbed Path is Sri Dharma's best advice for success in any aspect of your life.

Tribe, I'm honored to present to you the collaboration between the Yogi Misfit Sessions and Fierce Calm.

Yoga gave its support to Kris after experiencing frustration with the Veteran Affairs health care system. Yogi Misfit Sessions: S66 Marshawn Feltus Feb 27, 2019

This session is a powerful one and I'm extremely honored to have Marshawn Feltus as my guest this week. Just before his 18th birthday, an altercation he recalls as “senseless street violence” escalated into a fatal shooting and landed him a 38-year prison sentence. During his incarceration, he took his first yoga class that forever altered his life then took the seat of the teacher to lead over 800 men in Ashtanga.

After serving almost 19 years, Marshawn opened up ACT Yoga, the first studio in the underserved Chicago-Austin area. ACT stands for "Awareness, Change, and Triumph."

We sit down and talk about the mental benefits of yoga, and why he finds this practice to be so valuable. Being in an underserved community, he shares his challenges with de-mystifying yoga ("I thought yoga was for skinny white women, like I thought basketball and football were for the brothers."), and how he tries to make this practice sustainable and attainable more than a one-time experience on the mat.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S65 Rocky Heron Feb 20, 2019

Welcome to the Girlfriend Gab Podcast with Danni + Rocky!

Just kidding. But wouldn't that be super fun? Anyway, on with the show...

Rocky Heron is a really good friend, mentor, and a huge inspiration to me--I credit him for giving me the final push into becoming a yoga teacher. As a teacher for the Mazé Method and having gone through trainings with him, Rocky is a huge wealth of knowledge of not only the body and how it moves, but teaching the yoga asanas and thinking critically about teaching.

We also talk about what yoga is to different people--regular yoga vs. irregular yoga, if you will. We all have different frameworks, depending on what your lineage or training background might be, but it's all yoga. Keeping a line of inquiry in your own practice is also crucial; it's one of the best ways to discover your body and to encourage growth within your practice and teaching. What's working? How can you approach it differently?

I hope you enjoy listening in to this session and want to know if you have any takeaways.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S64 Lauren Zoeller Feb 13, 2019

For Session 64 I was joined by the female version of me – Lauren Zoeller. She is a true powerhouse who does all the things. She’s a yoga teacher, a coach and a podcaster.

We talk about pouring from an empty cup. This is something I’ve struggled with the past year where I felt like I kept on giving until I almost burnt myself out. Lauren gives great advice on how we can only care for others by caring for ourselves first, otherwise, we will just burn ourselves out and end up running on empty.

I loved her emphasis on getting a morning routine of self-care that is specific and works for you. It’s something I’ve put a lot of effort into and starting the day right with a bit of self-love can make a huge difference to not only you but those around you.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: BC2 The Four Agreements Feb 06, 2019

    Hey yogis!

By now, we've finished reading book #2 of the Yogi Misfit Book Club, The Four Agreements by Don Ruiz. If you haven't yet finished it--no worries! Keep on keepin' on but there are spoilers ahead!

This session, I've got a few Yogi Misfits on the show. For some of them, it was the first time reading this book, and for a few, the second or third time. We talk about the takeaways from both perspectives. Something that really stood out to me from this book is how you cannot make assumptions, especially where someone is coming from; you don't necessarily know their life experiences and background that shapes their thought process.

Above all, Ruiz lists doing your best. I see this all the time in the classroom--someone gunning to win 1st place at yoga. We also talk about how this applies in our daily lives.

Finally, spiritual warriors. What does this mean to you? How does this show up in your daily life? They share their interpretations on this.

What were some things that stood out to you? Let me know in the Yogi Misfits Facebook group!

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S63 Margo Lightburn Jan 23, 2019

This session is for both yoga students and yoga teachers alike. On session 63, I chat with Margo Lightburn, a teacher who's been teaching and practicing for 16+ years. We talk about sustainability of a yoga teacher because yeah, it looks like all we do is walk around and say things to students, but there's so much more to it than that. Intelligent sequencing, getting classes to be well-attended, ensuring that we maintain a solid income yet avoiding burnout...these are all different plates that we as teachers spin at any one time. How can all of this be sustainable for any one teacher? On top of that, especially in areas where yoga offerings and yoga teachers are abundant, how can someone stand out as unique instead of being hyper-competitive against each other? We get honest and real, so get ready.

Also, we apologise about the audio quality of the interview. We decided to release the episode as we just loved the rawness of the conversation. Thank you for bearing with us.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S60 The Year Ahead + The Business of Yoga Jan 02, 2019

Hey yogis! I'm starting off 2019 with a twist. Krista Lettko, a marketing guru of the agency Authentic Audience, interviews (or hijacks, as she says) me on the show.

We talk about the business side of the yoga industry, managing your own brand as a yoga teacher, engaging, maintaining, and growing an authentic audience, and the H-U-S-T-L-E that is being a yoga teacher. There's a whole lot that goes into teaching yoga outside of showing up, maintaining continuing education, and getting those prime-time class slots. Hear about my experience, the lessons learned, and what's to come for the next year.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: BC1 The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck Dec 27, 2018

Here we are! By now, we've finished reading book #1 of the Yogi Misfit Book Club. If you haven't yet finished it--no worries! Keep on keepin' on but there are spoilers ahead!

In this session, we talk about The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck and the biggest takeaways. What I loved about this book was how irreverent it was, and pointed out things that are easy to overlook. We get caught up in letting small issues take up all of our attention, but we need to learn how to give less of a f*ck. The five rules Manson puts forth on how to give less f*cks are also really solid--to challenge ourselves and put ourselves in uncomfortable positions repeatedly to grow is key.

What were some things that stood out to you? Let me know in the Yogi Misfits Facebook group!

Stay tuned for the next book (The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz):

    Buy it here.

Keep up with all book club-related things here. You'll be joining the rad kula (community) that is the Yogi Misfits.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S59 Heather Titus Dec 19, 2018

On today's show I have Heather Titus, the creator of the Sedona Yoga Festival. I had the privilege of presenting at the festival last year, and not only was it a great experience but the community was absolutely insane. I was completely blown away at how Heather and her husband Mark had created this awesome community of teachers and people who turn up every year.

The festival is so awesome and I really couldn't recommend it enough. Plus, if you haven't been to Sedona yet that needs to change. It's such a beautiful landscape that looks like its from a different galaxy.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S55 Dr Lee Watson & Koreen Strauss Nov 14, 2018

For this week's session, I'm so happy to be sharing with you guys the amazing Dr. Lee Watson and Koreen Strauss - the awesome individuals behind Fierce Calm.

Fierce Calm is a platform that allows people who identify with the words "yoga saved my life" to share their stories.

Their community offers a safe place for people to come forward and share their experiences. Being able to share how we feel and what's happened to us is so important in helping us heal and grow. We shouldn't have to hide our pain and feel like we're alone in this world. Because we're not.

For those of you who know me, yoga was the only thing that really saved me when I felt lost to the world and like I had nothing. I can't champion this initiative enough. I believe in with all my heart. I'm truly humbled to be the Global Ambassador for Fierce Calm, and I hope to bring awareness as to how yoga can change people's lives for the better, just as it changed mine.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S53 Adell Bridges Oct 17, 2018

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of hosting Adell Bridges at my home. She’s been living as a nomadic yoga teacher since January 2017. That’s almost 2 years on the road. In that time she’s lived and taught all over the world and called everywhere, ranging from India to London to Nicaragua, her temporary home.

The Instagram posts can make it seem like the most glamorous lifestyle in the world. But that’s far from true. In this session, we break down the pros and cons of being a nomadic yoga teacher. Nothing is held back and no topic is off limit. Listen and you’ll find out what I mean.

On a personal note, I just want to say thank you to Adell. She came into my life at the exact moment I needed her. I had been having a shitty week, but meeting and connecting with her reminded me that whatever dreams I have, I can make them real. Although we had just met, it seemed like I’d known her for years. So shout out to Adell, thanks for coming on the podcast and hope to see you soon.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S52 Michelle Bouvier Oct 03, 2018

For session 52 I had the pleasure of nerding out with Michelle Bouvier. Michelle is a yogi and movement educator based in San Francisco who uses bio-mechanically intelligent embodiment practices to eradicate linear forms of thinking and moving. We discuss the growth of movement sciences and how it compares to classic yoga alignments. Plus, we go deep into a yoga nerd out, with conversation varying from how colonization took ecstatic expression in yoga underground to the geometry of joint surfaces.

It was great talking to someone who uses their yoga practice to constantly explore and is willing to break out of the normal way of doing things to try something different. Hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it.

Yogi Misfit Sessions: S4 Dushka Zapata Nov 07, 2016

Welcome to the Yogi Misfit Sessions. Today my guest Dushka Zapata and I talk about getting out of your own way and negative self-talk.In her own words: "After more than 20 years in the communications industry, I noticed a theme. It is very difficult to articulate who you are and what you do. This holds true for both companies and for individuals. For companies, this is an impediment to the development of an identity, a reputation, a brand. It makes it hard for your customers to see how you are different from your competitors. For individuals, in a new world order of personal brands, it makes it hard to develop one that feels real. This is what I do. I help companies and people put into simple terms who they are, what they do, and where to go next. My work comes to life through message development, presentation training, media training and personal brand development. It comes to life through executive coaching, workshops and public speaking. It comes to life through what I write. I published a book in May called How to be Ferociously Happy. My next book will be available on November 4th".Listen in and enjoy.Learn more about Dushka:Books: How to be Ferociously HappyAmateur: An inexpert, inexperienced, unauthoritative, enamored view of lifeQuora: Dushka ZapataLinkedIn: Dushka ZapataDon't forget to subscribe via: iTunes | Google Play | RSS.WRITE A REVIEW If you like the podcast, please leave a review or rating on iTunes!
