"To QB or not to QB" Dueling Mock Drafts w/ Michael Thompson of 12th Man Rising Apr 02, 2024

Show notes

With the buzz around the potential of a Michael Penix-to-Seattle scenario refusing to diminish, today we attempt to show you how a Seahawks draft might look with or without a selection of the UW signal-caller in the first round.

Michael Thompson writes about the Seahawks, and most predominantly the draft, for 12th Man Rising. Michael will take the pro-Penix approach, while I try and go a different direction.

But wait, that's not all! We finish up with a live draft simulation where we team up and alternate picks, exploring the possibility of trading down to accumulate an extra pick or two.

And then YOU get to tell us which approach you prefer.

It's Mock Draft Mania!!

NFL draft expert Emory Hunt on Seahawks draft fits, sleepers, and potential surprises Apr 01, 2024

Show notes

Emory Hunt publishes the Football Gameplan Draft Guide and provides draft coverage for CBS Sports. He scours the country looking for talent, and I find that he's much more objective and open-minded than other draft analysts.... much more willing to include lesser-known FCS players in his rankings.

As a result, his lists look quite a bit different than many of the other mainstream publications you may have seen.

We'll talk about that, while also digging into the Seahawks roster and getting Emory's thoughts on potential fits - both in the first round and later on - at their positions of greatest needs.

I also ask Emory to provide a few sleeper names that others seem to be overlooking, as well as a couple guys he thinks are being OVER rated.

5 reasons the Seahawks should still consider drafting Michael Penix Jr. in the first round Mar 30, 2024

Show notes

If you thought the Seahawks would be bowing out of the QB draft market after trading for Sam Howell, think again........ at least hypothetically.

It MIGHT not be as crazy as it sounds.

Listen in for my 5 reasons it could happen as I make the case for Michael Penix Jr. to the Hawks.

Show notes

Brandon Cain of the outstanding Hawks Nest podcast joins me with his in-depth analysis of the Seahawks offseason so far, including:

The outlook at guard. Do any of the remaining free agents fit? What type of athletic profile are they looking for and which draft prospects would make sense.
What do some of the Hawks offseason moves say about their potential draft plans?
How does he feel about the linebacker group in Seattle, and who might they be targeting at that position in the draft.
Is Sam Howell the long-term answer at QB, and could they still be considering Michael Penix in the first round?
A potential curveball for their first round pick.

News, Notes and Rumors from the NFL Owners Meetings Mar 26, 2024

Show notes

So much to react to from the annual NFL owners meetings this week:

New comments from Mike Macdonald - what are his goals in trying to build the defense, what did he see in Sam Howell during his time in Baltimore that excites him, and big news concerning the offensive line.

John Schneider may be ready to add a veteran guard to the roster, who could it be? I've got two names to watch for.

Rule changes! One I love, and one that concerns me.

And based on everything we're hearing, I give you a BONUS owner's meeting mock draft!

Long-time QB guru Keith Simons on the Seahawks QB situation, this year's draft class, and some of the greatest Seahawk QB's of all time Mar 25, 2024

Show notes

Keith Simons spent 36 years as a college head coach, coordinator, and private QB coach, specializing in offense and quarterback play. He's also a long-time Seahawks fan, which gave us a LOT to talk about. Recently retired, he launched QB Unfiltered on YouTube where he shares his thoughts on everything from X's and O's and breaking down draft prospects, to waxing nostalgic about some of the great coaches and QB's of the past. Among the topics discussed on today's show....

What made Jim Zorn so unique?
What are the key traits he looks for in a quarterback?
Why do NFL evaluators get it wrong so often?
Who are his favorite QB's in this draft class (and his least).
How does he view the current Seahawks QB situation.

And SO much more!

Is the Seahawks roster BETTER today than it was to finish the 2023 season? Mar 21, 2024

Show notes

The Seahawks missed the playoffs in 2023, ushering in a new era as legendary head coach Pete Carroll was replaced by young first-timer Mike Macdonald.

There's a lot of work to be done as the team entered free agency with fewer players under contract than any team in the NFL. But as we assess things now just one week after the start of free agency, is it possible Seattle's overall roster is actually better than the one that finished the season in Arizona?

I'll make the argument that yes, it is, and with the draft still ahead it has a chance to get even more talented.

Join me on a position-by-position tour of the roster as I make my case.

What's up with the Seahawks offensive line?! Should we be concerned? Mar 18, 2024

Show notes

College football scout and owner of The Football Scout channel on YouTube, Sanjit T joins the show today to weigh in on the state of the Seattle Seahawks offensive line.

Now that the most pressing needs have been addressed through free agency on defense and at tight end, the offensive line remains as a perceived weakness among fans and analysts, particularly on the interior.

Is there cause for concern about the lack of experience at center and guard? With very little salary cap space remaining, are there still moves the Hawks can make to address it, or will it have to be a priority in next month's NFL draft?

Sanjit shares his thoughts on a couple young players he sees as potential long-term starters that the team already has on the roster, plus an under-the-radar name to consider - and we take a look ahead at some possible fits at guard in the draft.
