REACTION: Seahawks trade for a QB and add a starting LB Mar 15, 2024

Show notes

The Seahawks acquired a talented young QB today and yet some fans believe the sky is falling! I'll tell you what I think of the Sam Howell trade. Did the Seahawks give up too much? Could he potentially be a long-term answer? Are the interceptions a red flag or does his upside overshadow the mistakes many young quarterbacks before him have made (including some hall of famers)?

Also, who's Tyrel Dodson and how does he figure into the Seahawks plans at LB?

After this weeks moves, where does the roster stand? What are the remaining pressing needs?

Recapping a busy day of roster moves for John Schneider and the Seattle Seahawks as they lock up more of their own free agents, add a starting safety and depth to the offensive line, extend a young pass rusher, and say goodbye to a legendary defender one more time.

Seahawks win some, lose some on first full day of free agency Mar 12, 2024

Show notes

The Seattle Seahawks and general manager John Schneider succeeded in re-signing DT Leonard Williams and TE Noah Fant, but lost some of their other free agents and saw a few potential targets sign with other teams as well.

How much salary cap space is left after paying Fant and Williams, what might some of their other priorities be over the next few days, and what in the world are they going to do about inside linebacker?

Also, a couple of QB moves elsewhere in the league today could impact the potential of Seattle taking a signal-caller in this year's draft.

Assessing UW Husky Draft Prospect Fits For the Seahawks with Christian Caple Mar 08, 2024

Show notes

Christian Caple has been living in the pacific northwest and covering the University of Washington football team for years, so who better to speak to the potential fit of Husky prospects with the Seattle Seahawks in this year's upcoming NFL draft?

And this is no ordinary UW draft class....a record 13 of them participated in the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis last week, and there's a good chance the entire baker's dozen will be drafted, breaking the school record set in 1998 when 10 Huskies were selected.

There are some obvious potential connections with Ryan Grubb and Scott Huff joining the Seahawk coaching staff after two seasons on Montlake - will Michael Penix be a potential target for John Schneider as he looks to solidify the QB position for the long-term? - but are there some other logical fits among the group as well?

And what are the qualities that Ryan Grubb posesses that lead Caple to believe he'll suceed at the NFL level?

Let's discuss......

SEAHAWKS MOCK DRAFT: What if John Schneider drafted ALL Michigan Wolverines? Mar 06, 2024

Show notes

The national champion Michigan Wolverines sent a record 18 players to the NFL scouting combine last week, and new Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is familiar with them all, having served as defensive coordinator in Ann Arbor in 2021.

As he and general manager John Schneider set out to retool the roster and establish a new culture, I wanted to see what it might look like if they drafted Wolverine prospects exclusively...... and I like the results so much I just HAD to share it with you!

BREAKING!! Seahawks release Adams, Diggs and Dissly. What does it mean and what's next? Mar 05, 2024

Show notes

The Seattle Seahawks today released starting safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs, as well as tight end Will Dissly.

Where does the team's salary cap stand after these moves, and what might general manage John Schneider do with the available funds?

Does this indicate the team is in more of a rebuild mode than some anticipated?

Who could be released next, or will we see some players restructure their contracts in order to create even more financial flexibility?

Can the Seahawks afford to move up for a QB? Mar 05, 2024

Show notes

So much speculation about the Seahawks apparent interest in some of the top QB prospects in this year's draft (they met with Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels at the combine), guys who they would no doubt have to move UP in the draft to acquire. But... can they afford it?

I'll take a look back at some trade-up scenarios in the not-too-distant past, and compare them to reports of what it might take to move up in THIS year's draft to try and make sense of it all.

Why are the Seahawks meeting with top QB prospects? Plus my Top 10 QB Prospect Rankings Mar 01, 2024

Show notes

Another day of QB-related news takes center stage with the Seahawks, with Geno Smith reportedly being told by team brass that he will be in Seattle this coming season.

But wait.... that's not all! At the same time, John Schneider and his staff are meeting with the draft's top QB's at the combine this week.

What does it all mean? Maybe nothing.... or maybe EVERYTHING!

As always, I'll try and break it down and read between the lines.

And then I'll unveil my Top 10 QB rankings for this year's draft, with a surprise at the top!

NFL Scouting Combine Preview - Positions and Players to Watch Feb 28, 2024

Show notes

Draft geeks unite!!! It's time for the NFL Scouting Combine!!!!

On today's show I'll share my thoughts on which position groups I'll be watching the closest, including one that's of a particular need for the Seahawks - and some of the specific players to keep an eye on who may be a fit.

And I'll weigh in one John Schneider's comments yesterday about the QB position, and why I think it may shine a spotlight on one particular day 2 prospect.

Finally, a quick salary cap update - how the Seahawks can quickly gain enough cap space to resign some of their key free agents without doing anything too extreme.
