Seahawks out of money? Current status of their 2024 and 2025 salary cap, and what they can do to fix it Apr 24, 2024

Show notes

The budget has gotten tight for GM John Schneider and the Seattle Seahawks. With less than $2 million in available salary cap space this year, and not much more than that looking ahead to 2025 either, some major decisions will need to be made in the coming days and months. In fact, they'll need to adjust some contracts or jettison a few players just to sign any players taken in this weekend's NFL draft!

Should fans be concerned?

Who better to break it all down than Curtis Allen, who does such a fantastic job analyzing this (among other things) for Rob Staton's Seahawks Draft Blog.

Curtis will update us on the Seahawks payroll situation, and provide some answers as to just how they can manage it all this year and next.

The Outside Perspective - Assessing this draft class, and a full 7-round Seahawk mock, with Shane Hallam of The Draft Countdown Apr 19, 2024

Show notes

You can search far and wide and you'll have a hard time finding anyone who puts more work into the NFL draft than Shane Hallam, managing editor of draftcountdown.com

I've been following Shane since the early days of Twitter, and have always been struck by the great lengths he goes to, not only with each year's current draft, but future draft classes as well.

In this episode, I'll explore Shane's scouting process, we'll break down his Seahawks haul in his latest league-wide 7-round mock draft, and even take a look ahead to the 2025 draft class. Is Seattle's future QB in that group?

He'll also explain how a certain current Seahawk veteran is on his list of the top 20 evaluations he's ever done!

Special guest Brendon Nelson on best Seahawk draft fits (plus we react to Dane Brugler's 7-round mock) Apr 17, 2024

Show notes

You asked for it, you got it - Seahawks Brendon Nelson!

Brendon joins me today to share some of the impressive work he's done researching this year's draft class, and with his in-depth knowledge of the Seahawks roster, we'll get into some scenarios about what he WANTS the team to do in the first round vs. what he thinks they WILL do.

Also.....

His "stick and pick" favorite at 16
Best fits if the Seahawks trade down in the first
Favorite mid-round prospects
Potential curveball pick that would shock us all
And we'll critique Dane Brugler's full 7-round mock draft that was released today!

Seahawks prepare for draft as players begin OTA's and transition to their new coaching staff Apr 12, 2024

Show notes

As John Schneider prepares for his first NFL draft without Pete Carroll by his side, there's a "breath of fresh air" in the building as veteran defender Uchena Nwosu describes it.

How will this translate to what we see on the field, and how will Schneider approach the draft with a new coaching staff in place?

Long-time Seattle Seahawks beat reporter Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune joined me to share his thoughts on what he's seeing, hearing, and sensing as the Seahawks transition to a new era.

Seahawks TOP 150 Draft Board - w/ Patton Richard Apr 10, 2024

Show notes

Former Field Gulls contributor Patton Richard has been putting together Seahawks draft boards for years. The self-proclaimed "draft nerd" has finalized this year's board, and the result is a tiered list of potential Seahawk targets broken out by position and levels.

It's a great way to see just where the different pockets of value to try and understand why Seattle may be focusing on certain position groups at specific spots in the draft.

I'll take you through his board, ask about his process, and get some of his specific takes on why a few players at each position just scream "Seahawk!"

Show notes

As the Seahawks begin their first offseason workout program under new head coach Mike Macdonald and his staff, I'll give you my list of 3 things I'm watching closely.

Also - are the Seahawks tipping their hand on which way they plan to go in the draft based on the confirmed visits they've had with prospects?

I'll go over the list of prospect visits so far and break it down by position.... there's an overwhelming trend to be discussed.

Is Corbin Smith's latest SEAHAWKS mock draft the best one yet? Apr 05, 2024

Show notes

Seahawks beat reporter Corbin Smith, host of Locked on Seahawks and lead writer for All Seahawks, impressed me so much with his latest mock draft that I just had to have him on the show to break it all down.

As many mocks as I do, I don't think I've been able to nail one in quite this manner, and what intrigued me the most was when he went in a direction with Seattle's first pick that I NEVER take.

He'll explain his thought process, and how this 9 player class would fit in Mike Macdonald's first year as Seahawks head coach.
