Episode 097 - Sidney & Gale's Relationship Mar 07, 2023

Show notes

Happy release week of "Scream VI," Screamers! One of the most valuable aspects of "Scream" as an elite horror franchise is the complex, ever-evolving relationship between its two insurmountable heroines over the first five films, Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers. They started out as enemies; punches were thrown before they began to hug one another to say hello. But massacre after massacre allowed them to understand each other in a way unlike anyone else, even the common link between these two women, co-survivor Dewey Riley. This week, Ryan unpacks the relationship with a panel of enthusiastic Patreons who bow down to the legendary characters and relationship created by Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox over 25 years. In addition, Ryan briefly covers Oscar predictions for the ceremony this coming weekend.

Episode 095 - Cotton Weary v. Randy Meeks Feb 28, 2023

Show notes

Welcome to the battle of the non-trio survivors in the original "Scream" trilogy. Randy Meeks and Cotton Weary are two of the most important characters in the original run of the "Scream" franchise. Cotton is indelibly intertwined with the story arc of the first three films and Maureen Prescott. Randy is the fan favorite, the person the horror fan watching Scream was supposed to see themselves in. They each survived a set of Ghostface killings and then bit the dust in the following round of murders. Join Ryan and a group of Patreons in the smackdown between these two characters on the following: Overall Preference; Better Written Character/Character Arc; Better Death Scene; and Better Acting Performance (Liev Schrieber or Jamie Kennedy).

Episode 093 - The Gale and Dewey Love Story Feb 14, 2023

Show notes

Happy Valentine's Day! The "Scream" film series may be a meta-slasher-who-done-it about Sidney Prescott and how her mother's past comes back to haunt her. But alongside the genre-blending cleverness and final girl narrative, there is a parallel storyline across the franchise that is a love story between journalist and author, Gale Weathers, and the deputy-turned-Sheriff, Dewey Riley. And it is a love story that could challenge the likes of "Titanic" in its epic scope, emotional strength, and complexity. For a Valentine's Day special, join Ryan and a slew of Patreons for an episode detailing the love story of Gale and Dewey, the parallel real-life relationship and marriage of Courteney Cox and David Arquette, and thoughtful questions about the hypotheticals of these characters.

Episode 092 – The Trio in Scream 4 Feb 07, 2023

Show notes

Long before Jamie Lee Curtis graced "Halloween" in 2018, reviving her role as Laurie Strode and being blended into a new narrative with a younger cast, "Scream" did the exact same thing eight years earlier. Sidney, Gale, and Dewey return to lead a new cast ensemble as the "legacy" original cast members. Functionally, this allows "Scream 4" to push forward a brilliant commentary on the remake culture of the 2000-2010s. However, "Scream 4" also continues their storylines after what we saw in their happy endings at the end of the third film. Join Ryan and podcast contributor Amar Karim to discuss how they use the trio in "Scream 4." In addition, Alley joins Ryan in the introduction to send well wishes and thanks to Albert Padilla, who has produced and edited all 92 episodes of this podcast to date, as he pursues other adventures. Also, Patreon Gregory Brock helps Ryan finish off the show with the traditional Scream Story and Speed Round questions.

In addition to Craven directing, "Red Eye" was brought to life by other "Scream" alum, including Producer Marianne Maddalena, composer Marco Beltrami, and editor Patrick Lussier. To introduce the episode, Ryan is joined by Tyler Jacobs who shares his Scream story and participates in the signature podcast speed round. The first 40 minutes of this episode is available to the public, while the second half is only accessible to Patreon subscribers to Patreon.com/screamwithrcs.
