Episode 087 - The Trio in "Scream" (2022) & Horror Films of 2022 Jan 05, 2023

Show notes

Ten years had passed since we last saw Sidney Precott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley united at the end of "Scream 4." For better or worse, they have changed a great deal. Additionally, in the fifth film, they function differently than ever before, taking a break from driving the story and rather supporting a new plot in the franchise. In "Scream," they take on the roles of the legacy characters in a requel or legasequel. This week, Ryan and Amar venture into the drastic changes in the lives of the beloved "Scream" trio and evaluate the success of the character arcs and the performances by Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. For the introduction, Ryan is joined by Doug Evasick. Ryan and Doug give twenty horror films released in 2022 a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Episode 086 - Courteney Cox, Scream VI, & Sarah Michelle Gellar's Film Career Dec 20, 2022

Show notes

In the final episode of SCREAM with Ryan C. Showers in the year of 2022, Ryan has a jammed packed show. First, Ryan covers additional thoughts about the "Scream VI" Teaser Trailer with Joey Vallese. Ryan and Joey additionally muse about Courteney Cox's work as Gale Weathers and her role as a Scream Queen in the horror genre. In the second half of the episode, which is available exclusively for Patreon subscribers, Ryan is joined by Ryan Young and Amar Karim for a Ryan2 conversation about Sarah Michelle Gellar. Most people know her as the 1990s Scream Queen (Cici Cooper, Helen Shivers) or as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But there is so much more accomplished acting work to her career, many of which Scream fans may not know about. Ryan, Ryan, and Amar evaluate every project in Sarah Michelle Gellar's filmography. Ryan encourages horror fans who are excited for return to TV in "Wolf Pack" this January to utilize free time exploring her lesser-known films, such as "Veronika Decides to Die" (drama), "The Air I Breathe" (drama), "The Return" (genre/thriller), "Possession" (genre/thriller), "Suburban Girl (romantic comedy), and "Southland Tales" (genre/science fiction). Episode 085 – The Scream VI Teaser Trailer Dec 15, 2022

Show notes

The teaser trailer for "Scream VI" (official title) was released Wednesday, December 14, after months of anticipation and speculation. Unlike the trailer for "Scream" (2022), this was brief, vague, and only contained a handful of cast members in one sequence. The new Woodsboro survivors (Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding Jr., and Jasmin Savoy Brown) are stalked on a New York City subway on Halloween night. The trailer does not feature Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers or Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed. Join Ryan and a group of Patreons, including Amar Karim, Ryan Young, Cassi Grachien, Roy Garza and Jake Lubbehusen for reactions and predictions.

Episode 082 - Gale and Dewey in Scream 1 & Patreon: Horror Genre Bias Nov 29, 2022

Show notes

Back before they occupied two thirds of what we now consider the "Scream" survivor trio, Gale and Dewey played supporting roles to Sidney's storyline in the original film. With half of the screen time, focus, and character weight they receive in the sequels, Courteney Cox and David Arquette establish the legendary characters, the beginning of the characters' romance, and each of their internal insecurities. Join Ryan and podcast contributor Amar Karim to discuss the series introduction to Gale and Dewey in the original film. In the second-half, Patreon exclusive portion of this episode, Ryan explores the bias the horror genre endures from film critics and audiences with Amar and Chris Beatie. In addition, Ryan introduces a new Scream "this or that" speed round to be featured in upcoming episodes. Introduction

Episode 079 - Ranking Final Girls: Sidney, Gale, Laurie, Ripley, & Nancy Nov 08, 2022

Show notes

"Scream" has always been a franchise of final girls. Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers are two of the most consistent, quality characters in any horror franchise of all time. They are legendary for not having one, uninterrupted, consecutive character arc without their storyline ever. Most "Scream" fans assume they are the final girls of all final girls. In today's episode, the Showersheads put the Scream Queens up against the likes of the other top tier final girls in the cinematic landscape: Laurie Strode from "Halloween," Ellen Ripley from "Alien," and Nancy Thompson from "A Nightmare on Elm Street." In addition, each of the Patreon guests highlights one other final girl that stands out as special to their brand of horror. To conclude the episode, Ryan is joined by Michael Schwartz to briefly discuss and review Todd Field's new film "Tar" starring Cate Blanchett.
