    Run Eat Drink Podcast

Welcome to the Run Eat Drink Podcast!  This is the podcast where we embark on exciting adventures, combining our love for running, delicious food, and tasty beverages. Whether you’re an elite runner aiming for victory or just starting your “Couch to 5K” journey, we’ve got something for you. Let’s dive into the three pillars of our show:

Accomplish (Run): Accomplishment is deeply personal. Are you eyeing a race series win, planning your next “run-cation,” or hoping to set a personal record in your next half-marathon? Each week, we feature fantastic destination races from around the country. Discover scenic courses, learn about the charities they support, and get inspired to lace up those running shoes. And when we’re not on the road, we share interviews, training tips, and insights from our own running journey.

Explore (Eat): Running and traveling go hand in hand. As we explore new places, we also explore local cuisine. We seek out hidden gems—the eateries that locals rave about. Bold flavors, interesting dishes, and passion for food—that’s what we’re after. After each race, join us as we wander the city streets, discovering post-race refueling spots. Whether it’s a gastropub, a food truck, or a cozy café, we’ve got dining options to satisfy your cravings.

Indulge (Drink): When the running is done, it’s time to unwind. We raise our glasses to celebrate our accomplishments. Local breweries, coffee shops, speakeasies, and watering holes—these are our destinations. From craft beers to artisanal cocktails, we explore the beverage scene. Cheers to a well-deserved drink after crossing the finish line!

Join us on this journey of accomplishment, exploration, and indulgence. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a curious foodie, there’s a place for you at the Run Eat Drink Podcast.

Welcome back to another episode of the Run Eat Drink Podcast!

On Sunday, August 6th, America's Coach and Olympian, Jeff Galloway, hosted a 3-hour running school in Orlando, Florida at the Track Shack. This gave me a great opportunity to share with all of you what his method is all about and why it works. It was such a great experience, and afterward we sampled some tasty food and beverages right around the corner at Santiago's Bodega.

In part two, we explore the science behind the method and how Jeff himself used it to qualify for the Boston Marathon when he wanted to make it back after the tragic events there in 2013. Anyone, from someone just getting started to an elite runner, can use the method to improve time or train to cross that finish line for the first time and feel great after the race.

Special thanks to the Orlando Track Shack, Jeff Galloway, and Santiago's Bodega for allowing us to film this episode. Here are some resources so you can find out more about his method and the delicious food and beverages we tried.

In Quick Bite #13, we share the Pulled Pork Stuffed Burger we ordered from the Fillaburger Food Truck at the JDub's Not Quite Friday 5K last week. Okay, actually, it was what my husband ordered, but we ordered the Mac and Cheese Stuffed Burger and the Pulled Pork Burger and agreed to share because they both looked amazing and came highly recommended. The Pulled Pork Stuffed Burger with it's sweet BBQ sauce and crunchy fried onions was so tasty that we could not skip sharing it with you. it paired perfectly with the Bell Cow (including a shot of coffee) that we did not film, but I had to have it because I enjoyed it so much at Nice Guys and when I saw it there on tap with addition of a shot of coffee, I couldn't say no. You can check it out in Quick Bite #6.

If you are in the Sarasota area on a Thursday night, you really should drop by JDub's Brewing, run their Not Quite Friday 5K, sample their tasty beer offerings, and order a stuffed burger from the Fillaburger Food Truck.

RED Episode #4 Run Walk Run with Jeff Galloway (Part 1) Aug 13, 2017
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back to Run Eat Drink Podcast!

In this episode, I want to share the method I use to train for races of all distances. I discovered his method in January 2011, when I ran my first half marathon at Walt Disney World. I was an inexperienced runner who found a book online with a running schedule in it, tried to follow it, and headed to the race. Mistakes were made. I would describe that experience as painful and a real struggle, although I crossed the finish line with my husband and accomplished the goal. At the race expo, Jeff was giving a motivational talk about his method. He talked about taking walk breaks so you can finish strong. Those walk breaks are short, 30 seconds or less, and protect you from running out of gas at the end of the race. It does not matter whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or complete your first race, he said, you can use this method to pass others at the end, finish with a smile, and still have energy to celebrate afterward.

When we got home and started to train for our next race, his words were in the back of my mind. I did some research and found that he had a whole program, and that there was "an app for that" from LoloFit. It gives you a training plan based on your goal, a recommended ratio for running and walking, and during the workouts, it is Jeff's voice telling you when to run, when to walk, and dropping in occasionally with motivation and encouragement to keep going. I cannot tell you what a difference it made in training, motivation, and performance. I became one of his e-coach clients, and have been an avid supporter ever since!

Jeff took the time to do an interview with us, and he gave us so much great information, so we are breaking up his interview into three separate podcast episodes. This is the first part of his chat with us, Jeff talks about the history of the run-walk-run method and how he became "America's Coach." In part two, we will explore the science behind the method, and in the final part of his interview with us, Jeff shares resources for anyone out there who wants to use his run-walk-run method.

Special thanks to the Orlando Track Shack, Jeff Galloway, and Santiago's Bodega for allowing us to film this episode. Here are some resources so you can find out more about his method and the delicious food and beverages we tried.

We had a mid-week trip to JDub's Brewing Company out of Sarasota, Florida in this 6-minute episode. Every Thursday they host a Not Quite Friday 5K. Those who complete the run get a punch card and if you complete two punch cards you get a great shirt! It is free to run with the group. As soon as we arrived, we signed a waiver, we were shown a map of the course, and we were off! The course goes through a park and past the Baltimore Orioles Ed Smith Spring Training facility. The scenery was nice, and the group was welcoming and fun. It was a low pressure way to complete a short training run.

There are benefits to completing just one of these runs as well… Runners get a discount on a tasty beer after completing their 5K. We chose to try their Poolside Kölsch, a lighter and refreshing beer, although, my favorite is still the Bell Cow. A food truck, Fillaburger was also waiting for us after the run and they had awesome stuffed burgers filled with mac and cheese or pulled pork and more!

The environment is so much fun! You definitely have to check out all the Star Wars art on the walls and the beer garden out back that you'll see in our podcast.

I will definitely be back to run on the next Thursday I have off to fill my punch card, try more from Fillaburger, and hang out at this cool brewery. You should check them out when you are in Sarasota.

We were so lucky during the Run, Sweat, and Beers 5K to benefit the Levis JCC to have a post-run beer as delicious as the Wizard Wit from Barrel of Monks Brewing out of Boca Raton. It is light, not hoppy, refreshing, and has a beautiful orange and yellow color. In this Quick Bite, while we were standing in line for a refill, we ran into Kevin Abbott, who is the owner of Barrel of Monks Brewing and he took time while he was serving this delicious beer to talk with us about it.

We are back at Patio Tapas and Beer to try another round of their tasty tapas! Their happy hour is a steal with most dishes coming in at $3. If you are in Boca Raton, you should definitely give them a try. In this 3-minute video we sample:

Churrasco at $3 on happy hour this is a piece of skirt steak on a toasted baguette with mojo verde, peppery arugula and marble potatoes.

Duck Breast also $3 on happy hour (Duck at that price? How could we not!) that is seared and paired with fig marmalade and white truffle oil.

Manchego at $3 on the happy hour menu gave me the chance to try quince paste, which I have never had before. The manchego is aged 12 years and its salty and Spanish flavor compliments the sweetness of the quince paste.

We are back at Patio Tapas and Beer! We tasted the sangria, and now we dive into their delicious tapas. In a 2-min video, we talk about the Pork Belly and Piquillo Relleno. These two are the perfect balance of flavors and they are just two more reasons you should visit Patio Tapas and Beer if you are in Boca Raton, Florida. I know it is Spanish Tapas, and we did visit the Columbia Restaurant at our last race, but this was not to be missed, and I love tapas when I can't decided what I am in the mood to eat. There are so many different Spanish influences as far as food in Florida, they are all worth sampling and enjoying! This did not disappoint. Try it next time you are in town and you'll see what I mean.

Pork Belly - $3 on their happy hour menu! It is a piece of crispy pork belly on a toasted baguette with picked shallots and aioli.

Piquillo Relleno - $3 on their happy hour menu as well! A stuffed pepper (I say it is a red pepper in the video, but it is a piquillo pepper) with goat cheese and a PX reduction (which tasted like a balsamic reduction).

Last Thursday we traveled to Boca Raton for the Levis JCC's Run, Sweat, and Beers 5K. While in Boca, we got the chance to eat at an amazing Tapas restaurant, Patio Tapas and Beer. When you check in on Yelp, you get a free Sangria, and it being National Wine and Cheese Day today, July 25th, we thought we'd post our review of Patio Tapas and Beer's tasty red sangria. If you are ever in Boca, you should stop by this small restaurant that is packed full of delicious beverages and tapas.

    Show notes

    July 22, 2017

Featured in this episode as we travel to Boca Raton:

Levis JCC Run, Sweat, and Beers 5K

    Patio Tapas and Beer

    Funky Buddha Brewery

On Thursday, July 20th, my husband and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary with filming the latest episode of the podcast. Right now, my work schedule allows me to scout races and destinations that we can drive to here in the state of Florida so we can spend a couple of days shooting the podcast. I am just beginning as a podcaster, but I love it and hope to feature more races and destinations. I do want to show you all hidden gems when it comes to races, tasty places to eat, and great beverages you should try if you get the chance. I hope it is enjoyable and that we are a helpful and fun resource for runners, vacationers, and friends. We want you to accomplish, explore, and indulge, and we hope to help with that.

This brought us to Boca Raton to participate in the Levis JCC Run, Sweat and Beers 5K. This race was held at a huge park in Boca. Talk about an undiscovered race! Who knew this organization had three separate races and this was the last in the series. If you ran all three you got a medal, but that is not the best part. This race benefits an outstanding organization, the Levis Jewish Community Center, and their summer camps for special needs children as well as many other endeavors they are involved in to support anyone in need in their community. Check out their website and Facebook page to see how you can support them or if you want to run the 5k they will be hosting in September. You really should do it! It was so much fun!

We ran the race entirely in this huge park. At mile 1 there was a water stop. We passed two, count them two, alligators on the way to the turn around at the half-way point in the race. That same water stop was available on the way back to the finish. It was a flat course, and it was runner and walker friendly with no time limit. They texted our finish times right after we completed the race, and we got a nice tech t-shirt as part of the goody bag. There was a big inflatable archway at the finish, cold water, chicken wings, and cold and delicious beer from Barrel of Monks Brewing, which we will review in a Quick Bite this week.

Once the after party was over and the awards had been given, we went on to Patio Tapas and Beer. It was happy hour and the dishes were small and inexpensive tapas plates. We review the Patatas Bravas in the episode, but we had so many good things that we will need to review them in Quick Bites all throughout the week. Our assessment in short: everyone should go there and try their tasty tapas.

Our last stop in Boca Raton was Funky Buddha Brewery. They have two locations, and we went to the Boca location, which is the smaller of the two. They had live music going on, but really, who are we kidding, we were there for the beer! So we made our way to the bar and ordered the Floridian. It had the color of a Florida sunset. It was light and a nice wheat beer to celebrate the completion of our race.

All in all, Boca Raton has some great unknown races, restaurants with unique food, and beer that was worth the drive. We definitely want to go back, and not just for the golf courses and beautiful beaches that we ran out of time and could not visit. We are hoping to go back in September and hope you'll come along with us.
