    Redefining Movement

Redefining Movement, the LYT podcast, is hosted by two Physical Therapists: Lara Heimann, founder of LYT, and Kristin Williams, COO & Senior LYT Instructor. Together, they explore movement through the lens of physical therapy, neuroscience, and the lived experience of being human.

Blending scientific insights with soulful perspectives, Lara and Kristin transform our understanding of how our bodies and minds interact. Though the show has changed in several ways since the first episode in 2018, the mission remains steadfast and clear: to help us find freedom and feel empowered through intelligent movement patterns and a compassionate outlook, so we can all live more capable, connected, and uplifted lives.

    Show notes

Welcome to Wednesday Q&A, where you ask questions and we answer them!

    Your questions:

    • Question about my right outer hip/glute medius. I’ve always had super tight outer hips. When I go for a hike, that’s the first place that starts to complain/ache. Is it a question of doing more strengthening of the abductors or more and the right kind of stretches?
    • What would you recommend to do for diastasis recti after pregnancy?
    • What are your thoughts on aerial yoga?
    • Can you explain what nerve flossing does?
    • Tips for people who got COVID and now movement seems almost impossible?
    • Why do you reference the sides of the mat as east and west? Is there a benefit to mat placement?

This past year, we’ve had comfort and discomfort, and we’ve had to reconcile with the comfort that we might experience daily. Some comforts are necessary for us to thrive, but there is such a thing as getting too comfortable — it’s called being complacent.

Sometimes, you have to reach, to push yourself past your comfort zone, because it’s only in the discomfort that we can truly begin to grow.

337 | Just Breathe and Say Yes Jan 04, 2021
    Show notes

With the increasing popularity of practices like mindfulness, yoga, and breathwork, people in the Western world are thinking about their breath more than ever — and more intentionally than ever. But not only is it necessary for life, the rhythm of our breath has countless effects on our bodies. We’re going to explore how your breath can be used to say “yes” more in your life.

Take a moment to ask yourself: What is one insight or lesson that I’ve learned this past week, month, or year? And what am I grateful for right now? And take a few deep breaths and think on that. This allows us to be present, to be clear, and to be reminded of the lessons of the past.
