Creating Positive Delivery & Postpartum Experiences with the STL Doula, Kasey Baiter Oct 19, 2023
    Show notes

I was lucky enough to sit down with Kasey Baiter, the STL Doula, to discuss all things pregnancy, delivery, holistic health, and creating more positive experiences for all mamas.
In this episode, we dive into holistic approaches to women's health specific to pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. Kasey bridges the gap for mamas through her doula practice, collaborating with midwives and/or traditional healthcare professionals to help moms prepare for delivery and heal properly (physically, mentally, and spiritually) following baby's arrival.
Kasey and I debunk all of the misconceptions around using a doula and I ask all of the big questions to help empower YOU, mama, to advocate for yourself and make decisions that support your needs. She reveals what you can expect when you hire a doula, how a doula can support your spouse/significant other, and the benefits of doula care postpartum.
Kasey even discusses an area of her practice that is very unique - faith. She harnesses faith with her clients to help them find strength and comfort throughout the entire journey. Be sure to listen for a new, incredible perspective and reach out to Kasey if you have more questions!

Late Night Pep Talk: Self Care Oct 16, 2023
    Show notes

How in the world are we ever going to feel self-fulfilled if our expectation of self care is a full spa day, a girls trip, or a long and uninturrupted bubble bath? Society and media have set us up to believe these are the only ways we can and should recharge.
Tackling daily self care can feel overwhelming if this is your expectation. Which leaves you feeling discouraged, exhausted, and burnt out. Self care is actually any of the things you do to make yourself a priority and take care of your physical, mental, and/or spiritual health.
It's so much more than just spa days, mama.
In fact, self care shouldn't look the exact same for everyone. I usually ask my 1-1 clients to fill in the blank for this statement:
"I feel most fulfilled and prepared for the days/week ahead when I ______________."
Self care can still be a bubble bath. But it also can be a 15 minute workout. Drinking enough water. Cooking a meal at home with your husband while the kids run rampant in the house. Reading a personal development book. Reading a fictional book. Getting outside. Taking your vitamins. Taking a hot shower. Doing online therapy sessions. Inviting a friend over to have lunch.
Taking care of yourself allows you to show up better for everyone that depends on you...and for moms, that can be a lot of people.
You can't show up and take care of them if you don't take care of you first.
This episode helps you figure out how to start!

Navigating Unexpected Trials of Motherhood with Bailee Bracken Oct 12, 2023

Late Night Pep Talk: Overscheduled Oct 09, 2023
    Show notes

This pep talk is for the mamas that feel over scheduled, exhausted, and burnt out from the war they're losing with their calendar.
I mean think about it, as an adult, how exhausting does it feel to be over scheduled? We feel this way ourselves, and we even have the capacity (for the most part) to manage and execute on all of it. Just think about how over scheduled children are these days...does it make you wonder what kind of impact it has on them?
My reassurance in this podcast is that you're not denying your child opportunities, relationships, experiences by saying no every once in a while.
You actually do your child a favor when you protect their time and energy by saying no.
We've almost developed a fear of missing out FOR our children as their parents. But at the expense of what?
Let's value building character not only through team sports, school activities, and various other extracurriculars, but also through purposeful rest. Intentionally slowing down to instill values in our children in things like faith, nutrition, movement, conversation, home management, and rest. There's lots of perks to getting our children involved and filling the calendar with activities. But there's also so many perks to slowing down and letting our children just be children.
If you're feeling over scheduled, exhausted, and burnt out from the go-go-go of your calendar, maybe it's time to start saying no.

Removing the Stress Around Food in Your Family with Cierra Crowley, MSN, APRN, CPNP Oct 05, 2023
    Show notes

Motherhood is hard enough to navigate before food even comes into the picture. But so many of us as moms feel pressure and stress around meal times and providing food for our children...even when it comes to providing food for ourselves!
Today's guest is Cierra Crowley, a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with a diverse background in pediatric wellness, nutrition, exercise, and supplementation. Her passion for improving the health of our youth is infectious and I know we all can learn so much from her! What I love most is how she simplifies the process and takes the overwhelm out of learning to feed our families better.
Cierra and I dive into all things nutrition, food quality, food preparation, and battles that come with feeding our children. She shares her journey with her three pregnancies (one in progress currently!), postpartum journeys, introduction of food to each of her children, and how she navigates food with her family now.
Everyone starts somewhere and it's so important as moms that we remember it's not about being perfect or turning our lives upside down in one day. It's about making one small decision at a time, slightly better than we did before, and allowing those good decisions to stack up, learning and growing as we go.
The impact of food on our children is astronomical. From the obvious factors of weight and body composition to less-spoken about impacts, such as behavior, attention, and risk for disease. You won't want to miss out on this conversation with Cierra and I hope you'll connect with her on social media to continue to learn more from her wealth of knowledge in pediatric wellness!

Late Night Pep Talk: Sacrifice Oct 02, 2023
    Show notes

Society can, intentionally or unintentionally, send us a message in motherhood that "it should be that hard." It can make us want to hide our exhaustion, burn out, lack of balance, or faults because we're embarrassed or because it feels like everyone else is doing so much better.
This message sets a mom up for failure.
Because the reality is that you can feel exhausted, burnt out, off balance, and drained and still be a really great mom. Our expectation shouldn't be that this journey is all sunshine and rainbows if we're doing it right.
Exhaustion and struggle aren't badges of honor, but they are our truth. And the way society glamorizes motherhood can become poison to our thoughts and expectations.
Mama, this role is the hardest job you'll ever have in your entire life. It's not supposed to be easy and most times, it won't be.
No matter what you believe or where you source your strength on the hard days, motherhood is a ministry. It's literally defined by sacrifice. No one ever promised it would be easy, but it will absolutely be worth it.
Don't let society trick you into thinking it should be all of the beautiful without all of the challenge. Your journey being tough does not mean you're failing. It means you, indeed, are a mom. And those constant battles you fight are real.
    But they're worth it.
Your motherhood ministry is your greatest contribution to the world.
Your children are not the inconvenience, mama.
Don't believe the lies society is telling you - you're doing an amazing job.

Late Night Pep Talk: Growth Sep 28, 2023
    Show notes

The "mom space" can be so tough sometimes...a bit judgmental...often leaving us feeling less than good enough. Mom content, even if made with good intentions or with a true message behind it, can leave us feeling so overwhelmed.
But you're NEVER going to know it all or do everything perfect, mama. Each new chapter of motherhood, each child, each age will bring new challenges and that sense of "I have zero Idea what I'm doing." Once you accept that, the growth space of motherhood starts to feel a lot less intimidating.
See, growth is the ultimate path to self-fulfillment.
If you're in a rut as an individual, in your marriage, and especially as a mom...guaranteed you haven't been growing or challenging yourself lately. Think about it - when's the last time you learned something new?
We're so quick to resist change and fight what's not safe or familiar to us.
This podcast is all about shifting that mindset and starting to seek out growth in ways you never have before. And what you'll find is probably more fulfilling and empowering than you ever expected.
You owe it to you to do this, mama.

Late Night Pep Talk: Pressure Sep 25, 2023
    Show notes

When I work with moms one-on-one, what I find most often is that the problem isn't usually that they're not putting in the work to better themselves. The real monster we're battling is the immense amount of pressure they put on themselves to be exceptional in every single area, sometimes mixed with unrealistic expectations.
I'm here to break the news to you - you can't be perfect at everything.
We put pressure on ourselves in SO many areas of our roles as individuals, spouses, mothers, employees, friends, and so much more. But it often isn't the different roles that are applying the pressure - it's something we create in our own head.
Figuring out WHY you think the way you do and attacking the HOW differently is what helps you remove the pressure.
You don't have to be anything more than what you are right now for your children. Their expectations of you, if you could sit in their thoughts for a day, are so simple.
    They just want you.
YOU are the one that wants you to be all of these other things.
Your children, they just want you.

Late Night Pep Talk: Opinions Sep 21, 2023
    Show notes

In today's world, our experiences as moms can be put on blast for everyone to see in a split second. This opens us up for judgment.. opinions.. criticism.. unsolicited advice.. and worst of all, to be the topic of gossip.
It brings back those middle school girl clique vibes where friendships are created because two people "hate" the same person. They say misery loves company, right? Well, we fall victim to this as adults, too.
And we are not entitled to lift yourself up at the loss of another mom. We are not entitled to feel better about ourselves and our own decisions if it means downgrading a fellow sister.
This podcast dives into two main messages regarding how we act toward each other as moms and how we respond to the behavior of other moms.
This journey is hard enough, can't we all agree on that? Let's bond on this instead, pulling each other through, and reminding each other that we're doing an amazing job, rather than bonding over who we agree is doing the worst job this week.
And lastly, someone else's opinion of you is none of your business, mama. I need you to both HEAR that and LIVE that. Your only job is to, each morning when the sun rises, decide... yet again... that you're going to do your best. And you know what? That's ENOUGH.
    It's more than enough.
And it's still enough no matter what anyone else has to say about it.

Late Night Pep Talk: Struggle Sep 18, 2023
    Show notes

Two things that fail us big time in the United States when it comes to motherhood are social media and our healthcare system.
They both set us up for failure through unrealistic expectations, lack of support, and just leave us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and alone. I see this time and time again with the moms I help 1-on-1.
While I can't take all of these stressors from them, what I've found is that I can help them realize that these stressors are actually their superpowers. And I can help them shift their perspective while we work to alleviate some of the culprits.
It's a message I want to share with all moms:
Our struggles are actually our superpowers if we shift our perspective.
And if you want to take back control, it starts with realizing this power.
On this episode, I share 10 things you can consider implementing as a mom to help you use your superpowers to overcome these struggles. All simple, but effective, options. I highly encourage you to pick one or two to begin to implement in your own life.
It's not us against our kids, or our schedules, or our lack of sleep. Struggle is just a natural component of motherhood. The fact that you struggle isn't unique - EVERY mom feels it at some time or another, or even what feels like all the time.
What the real battle is, is us against this heavy, negative, unrealistic expectation that we put on ourselves.
Once we realize the lies we're telling ourselves, we can tap into our superpowers and take back control. One step at a time, one habit at a time, one deep breath at a time, maybe even just one "no" at a time.
Because we don't need to be ALL of the things at once. We just need to be where our feet are.
