How to Get Admitted to Labor and Delivery Jan 01, 2024
    Show notes

Happy New Year, and welcome back to The Mommy Labor Nurse Podcast! We've got a jam-packed line up for 2024, and I can't wait to continue to educate you about all things pregnancy, birth, and baby!

Are you wondering how to get admitted to labor and delivery? You're certainly not alone!

The funny thing about labor is that most pregnant women (especially first-time mamas!) frequently ask themselves the question, "Am I in labor?" when they aren't really in labor. But once you are actually in labor, there is literally zero doubt – 9 times out of 10 you will know!

Inside this episode I go over specific labor admission criteria, things that might keep you from being admitted, what happens once you are admitted to labor and delivery, and explore other reasons you might be admitted to the hospital during pregnancy.

Itching During Pregnancy: What's Normal and What's Not! Aug 28, 2023
    Show notes

This week on The Mommy Labor Nurse Podcast we're going to address itching during pregnancy and cover what's normal and what's not!

The thing about itching in pregnancy is that it might be nothing, but it might actually be a sign of something more serious – which is why I wanted to do an episode about this!

During pregnancy, your body goes through so many changes. The changes can be physical, emotional, psychological, or a combination of all three! It can be really hard, especially if it's your first pregnancy, to know whether or not something is normal and when you need to notify your provider.

You are probably familiar with the big red flags: vaginal bleeding, severe pain, and decreased fetal movement, but itching isn't one of those things that we typically think of as being concerning during pregnancy. And it actually can be!

Queer Couple Share Their Birth Story Nov 21, 2022
    Show notes

This week on The Mommy Labor Nurse Podcast, I chatted with Sally about the birth of her first son, Bodey.

Sally and her husband Ash are a queer couple that conceived at home with donor sperm from a good friend of theirs!

Once pregnant, Sally discussed navigating hyperemesis gravidarum, switching care providers later in her pregnancy, and a pretty scary event that disrupted Bodey's entrance into this world.

Addie's Story: Birth After Infant Death Part 1 of 2 Feb 28, 2022
    Show notes

This is part 1 of Addie's 2 party birth story. Addie had an emergency C-section with her first daughter, Sophie, who unfortunately did not survive. Addie goes into detail about the events leading up to that day, and what I can only describe as negligence by her care team during the birth of her first daughter.

She then found herself pregnant again 3 months later with her rainbow baby, and this time chose an elective C-section for her birth. 9 months after the birth of her rainbow, she becomes pregnant with, in her words, her "pot of gold" baby. His birth was an empowering VBAC after her previous two C-sections.

Here are the questions we go over!

    2. How long should I wait to have sex postpartum?
    3. Should sex hurt at all? What should I do if it does?
    4. Give me your best tips for having a pain-free experience.
    5. When should I seek help from a pelvic floor specialist? How do I even find one?
    6. What should I expect a typical visit to look like? How long does treatment typically last?
    7. I'm SO embarrassed (and nervous/scared), and I can't even think about going to a pelvic floor specialist...what should I do?
    8. Sex has never really felt great to me, and now that I've had a baby it's even worse. Is this something that pelvic floor therapy can help with?
