Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)

The Momentum Podcast is for those who of us who think differently — made especially for empire builders, game-changers, trailblazers, record makers, and creators of all kinds. Those among us who can’t turn it off, and don’t know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy, and we are obsessed with creating momentum.

While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, you and I are compelled to move forward and change the world.

We are the minority, the few, who are willing to hallucinate there could be a better future. Instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters. The most important people in the world because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution, and we always will be.

    484 - Don't Take Quitting Personally May 10, 2019
    Show notes

People are going to leave your team, and there is nothing you can do about it. As an entrepreneur, it is going to happen over and over again. The way that you get over this and keep it from being personal is to see change as an opportunity. People are going to leave for reasons beyond your control and for reasons that have nothing to do with you. They will get married. They will move. They will leave simply because they want to. The only thing you can do is be thankful for the time you had and release them and let them go. Then, turn to the people who are left and focus building up the team around you. Take the energy you have and focus on the people who are still with you and make things happen with you. Don't let one person leaving derail you and what you are doing with the rest of your team. If you are ready to start growing your business even faster with systems that keep your team running at the highest level, reach out to us at billionairecode.com.

    483 - People Look Broken Without a Plan May 09, 2019
    Show notes

People look broken without a plan. When you don't have a plan, you will believe you have people issues and face constant turnover. Conflict. Frustration. Things not getting done. Without a plan, the team doesn't have clarity, so they become tentative and are less likely to take risk and commitment to the work goes down. Your team without a plan will be frustrating and annoying. This is not a people problem. This is the direct result of not having a clear plan connected to a long-term vision.

With a clear plan, your team will perform at a higher level and clarity and confidence will go up. Strategic plans connect day to day activities to long term vision. With a strategic plan, momentum will be created faster than you thought possible.

If you are ready to create a strategic plan so your team knows exactly where you are going, reach out to us at billionairecode.com.

    482 - Strategic Growth Isn't Always Revenue May 07, 2019
    Show notes

Growth isn't always financial. Sometimes, you have to strategically grow some things in order to grow others. You have to take a step back in order to continue growing at a rate you want.

I talk to entrepreneurs all the time about growing their businesses. That's what keeps us in momentum – growing a business and moving things forward. The problem occurs when you want to grow all the time. A single flat line month will drive entrepreneurs crazy.

Experienced entrepreneurs understand that in business you should not always be growing top-line numbers. To deliver at the highest level, sometimes you need to make the strategic decision to grow the infrastructure of the business, not the sales of the business. Taking the focus off of the top-line and growing delivery and cause your business to grow in lightning speed.

Growth in infrastructure changes things and supports the people, processes, projects in your business. When you put the focus here, it will have a slingshot effect because they are the foundational pieces of growth in your business.

    To grow strategically:

    1. Understand that most businesses go through these periods routinely.
    2. Set an outcome and a timeframe to win.
    3. Realize that deliberate building periods act like a turbocharger for your business.

If you are ready to start growing like crazy and build infrastructure in your business, reach out to us at billionairecode.com.

    481 - You Can't Decide Everything May 03, 2019
    Show notes

As you grow your business, you can't continue doing everything. This includes decision making.

In so many ways, the entrepreneur is by far the biggest bottleneck in the business. We see this all the time in our coaching programs. In a growing business, your responsibilities will change on a daily and weekly basis. You miss an opportunity for leverage in decision making when you don't share the process with your team.

As you build a business, growth happens this way:

    1. Grow product
    2. Grow a tactical team
    3. Grow team that can execute directly for you
    4. Grow and share decision making

As entrepreneurs, we get used to making the decisions and being in charge, but in order to grow, we need to stop making all the decisions. This is crucial because decision-making fatigue is real. If you are making the decisions in every part of your business, you are making so many decisions that ultimately they won't get made and will slow down your business.

This is why growing a team to share in the decision-making process is necessary and prevents you from becoming a bottleneck, allowing your business to increase capacity and grow exponentially.

If you are ready to build out exactly what I talked about – core values, communication cadence – go to billionaire.com, and we will show you exactly where you are on the road to entrepreneurial success.

    480 - How to Hire Momentum May 02, 2019
    Show notes

In the businesses I've owned, I've always had team members who have military experience in leadership. The world needs to understand that members of the military consistently make ambiguous outcomes reality despite not having enough people, time, resources or direction.

They have the ability to adapt and overcome consistently, and this is why you want military leadership on your team. They can take an outcome and drive it to a conclusion 100% of the time. If you had this level of experience and ability to drive to outcomes on your team, your business would explode and be what you want it to be. It creates an unfair advantage.

They are a source of foundational strength and adaptability, and they can help you grow your business in a way of that provides you a level protection and support in a way you never thought possible.

    479 - Don't Gaslight Your Team May 01, 2019
    Show notes

As the CEO of a business, when you go around your team members, you create fear and uncertainty in your team.

I've seen this pattern in hundreds of businesses, and it took me years to create systems to break those patterns myself. What you have to see is that you have no idea of the position and stature you have in the lives of the people who work with you, especially if you are hands-off in operations and tactics. You hold a mythical place in their minds.

When you get involved in things you aren't usually involved in, from the team member's perspective, they will find it overwhelming. That type of behavior of going from CEO who is hands off to diving down to someone on a tactical level and correcting them, you are having a massive impact and creating fear in the team member and the entire team.

Creating systems around the people will help protect the people on your team and allow you to communicate with them effectively. Clear communication, clear planning systems, and an easy to use chain of command will help everyone on your team know what is going on and increase everyone's performance. Respect the structure, and your entire business will shift.

If you are growing a business and want to put the right structure in place, go to billionairecode.com and set up a call with a member of our team to go through a Strategy Session to see where you are and what you need to scale and grow your team.

    478 - Don't Take Money from the Wrong Person Apr 30, 2019
    Show notes

When you stop taking money from the wrong people, your entire business will change. Early on when you try to sell to everyone, you will be challenged. You will endure pain and suffering by taking money from the wrong people. While it may work for you in the beginning, eventually you will realize you are not getting consistent results. When the product doesn't fit the avatar, the product doesn't have the effect you want it to have, they don't get results, and they end up disgruntled and frustrated, and they leave.

As an entrepreneur, you want to sell to the right people 100% of the time. When you learn to stop taking money from the wrong people, everything will start to work. Your marketing will work, your sales will work, you will get consistent results. Most of all, your clients will get consistent results. To do that, you must realize that not everyone is the right avatar for you.

When you aren't getting the results you want, your clients aren't getting results, and the right people aren't showing up, you end up in a place where you have to take responsibility and fix the process. Decide first who you are selling to and creating an outcome for and that will allow you to exclude everyone else.

Are you ready to grow your business faster? The best way to set up a call with my team and get some more information for yourself is to head to billionairecode.com.

    477 - When You Hit A Wall Apr 27, 2019
    Show notes

As you grow your business, there are going to be times when it feels like you've hit a wall. This is especially true if you're a fast growth business.

It's so normal to hit a wall and it's something that happens to every entrepreneur out there. The key is learning how to deal with your challenges in the right way and not let the struggles you feel push you into making bad decisions.

When people are under pressure, they don't normally make good and rational decisions. If you've hit a wall, here's what you need to do...

1 -- Lower pressure and noise for you

2 -- Assess if your team is overwhelmed

3 -- Pull the targets closer and rack up some wins

You can get past the wall.

    476 - You Can't Hide Your Energy Apr 25, 2019
    Show notes

I feel like one of the most important things I can do for you, is quite simply, share my mistakes.

There is no such thing as the perfect career, nobody wins all the time. As an entrepreneur, if you are successful, you are going to make mistakes so give yourself some grace and let yourself off the hook.

So many of my challenges over my career have come from dealing with people. I used to hire for skill set and experience only. I didn't look at if I actually liked the person I was hiring and if I actually wanted to be around them. I thought I had to have the person who looked best on paper and that I just had to suck up my feelings.

Here's what I can tell you now, you don't have to hire people that you don't like being around. You don't need to make sacrifices and compromises to get the help that you need. The team members who I've struggled with in the past have always been the ones that I never felt comfortable with from the beginning.

You can't hide the energy with which you communicate. You can't hide your feelings no matter how hard you try. If you have people on your team who you don't like and don't feel excited about, you're not going to grow with the momentum that you would like.

People are going to feel how you feel so surround yourself with people that you feel good about.

475 - You are Constantly Outgrowing your Team Apr 23, 2019
    Show notes

I call it the entrepreneurs dilemma -- We know that we need more help than the average person to reach our full potential but, any request for help makes us feel vulnerable and exposed.

Ask for help and building a team is hard. Then you have to take it to the next level where you are actually helping your team to grow themselves. You have to help your A-players develop so that you don't end up outgrowing your team.

Lower the overwhelm your team feels and they will be able to produce their best work for you. Invest in your team and develop them so that they can continue to support you as your company grows.

If you help your team grow with you, you're going to be far more successful in the long run.

Please take a second if you can to leave a review for the Momentum Podcast. I would love to see what you think and share it with my team. I appreciate you and thank you for being a listener every day.
