    Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)

    The Momentum Podcast is for those who of us who think differently — made especially for empire builders, game-changers, trailblazers, record makers, and creators of all kinds. Those among us who can’t turn it off, and don’t know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy, and we are obsessed with creating momentum.

    While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, you and I are compelled to move forward and change the world.

    We are the minority, the few, who are willing to hallucinate there could be a better future. Instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters. The most important people in the world because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution, and we always will be.

    494 - Avoiding Team Tantrums May 28, 2019
    Show notes

    This episode is for anyone who's had team members throw a tantrum. The kind of tantrum where they blow up and act unacceptable. They completely shock you with their behavior and perform out of the ordinary from how they have previously been. In the future, here's how to prevent them from torching the place on the way out.

    It may be hard to hear, but these tantrums could be a result of something you are doing. It's important to not blame the person for being crazy or assume there's something wrong with them. When there's incongruency in a business's leadership, you can trigger childhood feelings and rebellion against authority.

    A leader can trigger these childhood behavioral patterns by being incongruent or having miscommunication. These patterns can show in the forms of unhealthy competitions, meltdowns, playing managers, and ultimately acting just like a child. Tantrums can be avoided by creating clarity, dividing responsibilities, documenting, and having transparency with your team.

    In this episode, we discuss how to lower the pressure and noise so you can achieve your ultimate version of success.

    Lowering pressure and noise is a gateway to understanding how to succeed as an entrepreneur. When we lower the noise and decide what we will no longer tolerate, we're able to move forward fast. Ask yourself, what are you tolerating, and what are you going to stop?

    Evaluate the people, places, and things in your life. They are either giving you momentum or taking it away. Make sure you defend your focus like your life depends on it because it does. Do this over and over, and you will create momentum you didn't know was possible.

    Once you lower the noise in all areas of your life, you will see your business grow like crazy! When you lower the noise first, the percentage of your success goes up exponentially. You will have the momentum, clarity, and space you need to go out and create the success you always wanted. It's time to lower the noise in your life.

    One of the fastest ways to create momentum in your business is to find people who have been where you want to go and give them responsibility.

    When no one in your business has grown to the level you are going, everyone is consistently guessing. You'll feel overwhelmed around hiring. Imposter syndrome will kick in. And, when your business grows, you'll feel overrun because you absolutely can't do it yourself.

    Experience matters. If you want to go fast, reach out to people who have been where you want to go, and massive momentum will occur.

    Having experience on your team allows you to be a mentor and to be mentored by your team members. Otherwise, you'll be the one making all of the decisions in the business and you will not grow as fast as you want.

    Self-care is a gateway drug to success.

    Self-care is not a weakness. The sooner you figure that out, the faster you get into and stay in momentum. Self-care allows you to create momentum physiologically and within your business.

    When you don't take care of yourself, you are training yourself to tolerate discomfort. Experienced entrepreneurs know that when they go down, so does the business. When you stop tolerating discomfort, you will be more successful.

    You are the most important person in your business and need to prioritize taking care of yourself and offload when you are uncomfortable. The day you start treating yourself as the most important person in your business, you will see a drastic shift in your business.

    When you start building a team, it's no longer about you. You can't scale a business without interacting with your team. If you don't want to show up with your team, you shouldn't grow a business.

    When you have a system and process in place, it will move the business forward fast. If you aren't willing to have a daily huddle, to meet with leadership, then don't build a team. A team will create more momentum than you thought possible. You will get more done with a team than you ever could on your own, and time with your team creates massive impact and maximum momentum.

    You set the tone, the culture and the pace of the company. If you aren't there, the team will know the business isn't important. If you don't show up, neither will they.

    488 - Handling Unexpected Terminations May 16, 2019

    A surprise termination, where either you have to fire someone or someone quits without notice, can be one of the most destabilizing events on your team.

    When sharing this information with your team, transparency is the easiest and most consistent policy. Ambiguity will drive gossip. Be careful talking negatively about someone who has left. The more respectful you are about what has gone on, the better things will go for your team.

    Let the remaining team know that transitions create opportunity. Terminations are always an opportunity. They are opportunities to find inefficiencies, an opportunity to bring in new energy, an opportunity to grow the business and the remaining team.

    I see entrepreneurs all the time comparing their worst day to someone else's best day. Let's face it. On social media, people just share their best, but you can't compare your worst day to what appears to be someone's best.

    Comparison is dangerous. For everyone who appears to be perfect on social media, remember, every person out there is going through something. Don't ever assume they aren't.

    When someone else shares a positive, use it for inspiration. You are the only person you should judge yourself against. When you compare yourself to yourself, you'll create more momentum than you ever thought possible.

    One of the biggest challenges we see with our new clients is that they have scaled, but they haven't let success drive their growth. They want to move forward so badly, they force growth based on anticipation of what could come versus the what will actually move the company forward.

    When you are growing a business, you will face an infinite number of decisions. It seems obvious we should scale the system around the success of the business. However, many times what happens with entrepreneurs is they scale around a perceived opportunity. They think there is an opportunity coming and hire people and put processes in place for an opportunity that could be there versus making decisions on the business they currently have.
