Entrepreneurs face resistance constantly. The day you decide you're going to do something, the whole world is going to tell you not to. But in this case, Ashlan Nelson was the opposite. Before creating her company, Unstoppable Stylist, she was a hairstylist for several years. She had an idea to help other stylists figure out how to make more money, but kept getting conflicting messages from her friends and family. From being a stylist herself, Ashlan knew hairstylist are taught to do hair, not to run a business.

Everyone kept telling her to launch the idea, but she kept hesitating. Ashlan felt pressure in starting her business and succeeding with it. Once she pulled the trigger, she went from feeling like "I don't know if I should do this" too "I need to do this and serve others." A few episodes ago, we discussed why some employees torch the place on their way out. In this podcast, we talk about what to do when it happens. People who threaten your business when they go are looking for a way to justify leaving. It's that simple. They need to place blame on you, or the company, and come up with a reason to leave the team rather than just walking away.

The more you react to someone torching the place on the way out, the more damage that will be done in your business. Any emotional reaction you have is going to unsettle your team, don't let one person leaving trigger everyone. Calm your reaction and remember this is part of being an employer. Building relationships is your job, and sometimes they fall apart. Know nothing is perfect, and there will be times ahead with massive challenges. Prepare yourself for someone torching the place on the way out. Know it's going to happen and remember not to react. Understand it's about the position you're in, and that you're not alone. It happens even to the best of us; it's part of life.

There's a reason why people torch your business when they leave. Sometimes as an entrepreneur, you screw up and make a mistake, causing someone to quit. But more times than not, people go because they found a new opportunity. To justify leaving, people often blame their employer as part of the problem, making it their fault. They know they have no integrity if they just up and go. When employees want to leave, they usually create separation, so they have a reason more significant than just walking away.

Having someone go sideways in your organization is a natural part of leading human beings. Know that if you're going to lead people, you're going to run into this issue. If this situation happens to you, don't criticize the person who is leaving. Make sure you are transparent with your team and don't let it affect how you treat the rest of your employees. As a leader, take responsibility, live above the line, care about the team you have left, move forward, and create massive momentum.

At some point in their career, every entrepreneur has felt like they were special, different, or unique. I have news for you, I'm not a unicorn, and neither are you. If you start thinking you're the only person who can do something, it's going to be the biggest barrier to you scaling your business than you could ever create.

Once you drop the idea that you are special, you will see what you should be doing. Focus on work in your genius zone and only in your genius zone. Once you get out of your own way, drop the feeling you're a unicorn, stop that pattern in your head that says your the only one who can do it, the faster your business is going to scale. Start outsourcing tactical items, ask help, and build a team around you that will help you create momentum. When you release the belief that you're the only one, you will grow your contribution and change the world.

Most entrepreneurial businesses are facing way more chaos and challenges then they need to have. If the same issues are showing up repeatedly, such as having an inconsistent customer journey or if product delivery is inconsistent, there is a simple solution to these issues. You need a deep process in your business. The more clear your process is, the more client trust you will create.

Without a process in your business, your customer experience will be radically inconsistent, and your business will experience utter chaos. Start building an infrastructure of your business with processes. Create a consistent system to identify what processes need to be documented, prioritize them, and begin documenting like crazy. Ensure your team knows and understands each process, so if something happens, anyone on the team can step in to help.

From there, your business will scale at the rate you've always wanted it to. If you lean in and implement a deep process, your business is never at risk of feeling constraint and always at a position to create higher levels of momentum.
