Momentum for the Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT)

The Momentum Podcast is for those who of us who think differently — made especially for empire builders, game-changers, trailblazers, record makers, and creators of all kinds. Those among us who can’t turn it off, and don’t know why anyone would want to. We challenge complacency, destroy apathy, and we are obsessed with creating momentum.

While the rest of the world strives for average and clings desperately to the status quo, you and I are compelled to move forward and change the world.

We are the minority, the few, who are willing to hallucinate there could be a better future. Instead of just daydreaming of what could be, we endure the vulnerability and exposure it takes to make it real. We are the evolutionary hunters. The most important people in the world because entrepreneurs are the only source of consistent, positive human evolution, and we always will be.

524 - Be Careful Following Runaway Success Jul 24, 2019
    Show notes

Entrepreneurs love a runaway success story, myself included. We want to know what that person is doing, how they did it, and see if we can do the same thing. The problem is, far too many people ask what they are doing and try to copy it exactly. But doing this can cause you major issues, and most likely end up hurting your business rather than helping it.

It's okay to follow a success story, but make sure to build your company around the inspiration from it. Figure out what frameworks, what evaluations tools, etc. they are using. If you start mimicking someone's business plan precisely, it's going to cause you challenges. You will end up adding things your business doesn't even need because no two businesses are alike. Use success stories for ideas but then analyze your company to see what it needs.

Tune in for my advice on what steps you need to take after becoming inspired by someone's success story!

523 - Simplicity Scales and Complexity Creates Constraint Jul 23, 2019
    Show notes

Cadey and I just got back from California. We were at Taki Moore's event surrounded by over 100 coaches from around the world. It was incredible. I wanted to record this podcast to share with you my takeaways and the biggest insight I received about growing and scaling a business under $10 million.

After attending the event and reflecting on the conversations I had, there was a common principle I saw. It's that simplicity scales naturally, and complexity creates constraint. Out of all the people in the room, the simplest businesses were the ones growing the fastest. How crazy is it that the simplest business plans were the biggest ones in the room? But when you think about it, it makes sense. People who have one promotion, one product, one sales process, one pretty much anything always grows. The more clear they are, the more success they have. Because people know what the offer and they become the go-to person for that product or service.

In the beginning, entrepreneurs without experience feel like they have to do a bunch of things to be successful. I've been there, and it's a painful process. The sad part is no matter how much work you put in, you're not going to scale the business because there is too much going on. Running multiple things at once will hold you back more than anything you're doing. So instead, simplify as fast as you can because success creates deficits and growth creates complexity. My question to you is, are you creating simplicity that scales naturally, or are you climbing up a hill because you made it harder? Think about it. Now go simplify your business, cut hard, and you will grow fast!

    521 - Imposters Everywhere Jul 17, 2019
    Show notes

So many entrepreneurs feel imposter syndrome, including myself. We hear that voice in our head tell us we aren't good enough as soon as we go to do something out of our comfort zone. When you feel it, you're doing things right. It's your subconscious pushing against you. If you struggle with this too, know that you are not alone, and almost everyone feels it. The people who experience imposter syndrome are the ones who end up breaking through and making things happen.

The bad thing about imposter syndrome is that it will always be there. But the good news is that action kills the imposter. Push yourself every single day to move forward, even to the point where it feels uncomfortable. Trust me, what's difficult for you today will get easier over time. Keep taking action over and over again. As you kill the imposter, you will find the things that scare you the most become the things that help you bring value to others. You are on the edge of growth, never quit. When you are willing to push through, that's when you will become who you know you always should be.

    520 - A Culture of Accommodation Will Kill You Jul 16, 2019
    Show notes

A lot of business owners feel like they should accommodate their clients. I'm here to tell you that you no longer need to. The more you accommodate, the more you create a business with no process, system, and everything is customized. There's no way to create a consistent delivery with your clients if you keep making exceptions for them. It will kill you, exhaust your team, and hold your business back.

Decreasing accommodation in delivery increases your value. When you stop making exceptions, you will create a system, process, and structure that runs the business for you. A culture of accommodation will kill you, but when you don't allow it, your momentum will go through the roof. Drive accommodation out of your business, and you will see your success in delivery go through the roof.

519 - Don't Stay Trapped in the Day to Day Jul 12, 2019
    Show notes

When you let yourself become trapped in the day to day, it's one of the least empowering ways to run a business. It will stunt your business growth. The challenge for most people is when they started a business, the success created was entirely by themselves. They did everything. But once your company has grown and you've gotten to the place where you can no longer do everything alone, you need to rely on a team. To do this, you have to make a massive behavioral shift from doing everything to stepping back and doing things you should be doing.

The issue is it feels natural and helpful when we jump back in the business. But in reality, it traps us in day to day and disrupts our team. Stepping back creates space for your team to step up. If you're always there helping, your team will continue to depend on you. When you're caught up in the day to day, your team isn't creating process, systems, and structure in your business. When you get out of the tactical day to day, your mind will instinctively switch into strategic thinking. Your entire perspective will shift in every area of your life. You can start to create massive outcomes without tactical involvement. The possibility of what you can accomplish and what you are capable of explodes!

    518 - Simplify to Scale Jul 11, 2019
    Show notes

Most entrepreneurs have a hard time scaling businesses because they don't make things easy enough on themselves. To scale, you need to simplify. Typically, businesses start with one person doing everything. As the company generates more success, it's difficult to jump out of the place of doing everything yourself to outsourcing work. Once you get to the level of success where you are no longer able to do everything alone, evaluate your business. Look at where you are struggling and how you can make things easier.

In our coaching program, the clients who have experienced fast growth have a common denominator. They simplified like crazy. As entrepreneurs, it's difficult for us to make things easy on ourselves. Complexity, work, and struggle all feel natural to us. As we grow, everything becomes more complex, and the success we achieve creates a deficit. It's important for you to know that simplicity scales naturally, and it's nearly impossible to scale complexity. Here are three things you can start simplifying today in your business: tighten up your avatar, streamline your delivery, and clarify the promise you provide as a company. Trust me, when you simplify everything gets easier.

517 - Where Entrepreneurial Anxiety Comes From Jul 10, 2019
    Show notes

Entrepreneurial anxiety is real. The faster we come to terms with it, the faster we can do something about it. So where does entrepreneurial anxiety come from? It comes from people like you and I wanting to be in momentum, make progress, get things done, and not being able to. If we lean in and embrace the anxiety, it will help us move forward.

I experienced entrepreneurial anxiety last week while I was out with a nasty sinus infection. Thankfully I had a plan and team in place that allowed our business to still make massive progress in my absence. If you are experiencing entrepreneurial anxiety, you need to have a plan. Not only is it important to have a plan in place, but you also need to make sure every member of your team understands it. That way if you have to take a few days off, your team can still move the business forward. You also need to recognize and eliminate where you are uncomfortable. Don't deny the anxiety. It only makes it worse. If you build the right team, have a plan, recognize where you are uncomfortable, and eliminate what's holding you back, you will reduce anxiety.

    516 - Life Will Overwhelm You, Don't Help Jul 09, 2019
    Show notes

There's a recurring issue we see in our coaching program, entrepreneurs creating overwhelm for themselves. Even after we put our systems in place to lower the pressure and noise in their life, they almost immediately want to add something new they can chase. They start feeling the momentum and want to do more. They don't realize that adding more usually slows the business's growth down and distracts their team. They get shiny object syndrome and try to do it all, but fail to realize that they can chase one thing with a tremendous amount of simplicity to 7 and 8 figures.

Sometimes the most important thing to do in our business is to create space for what's coming next. You're constantly going to be changing and growing, which is a good thing because if you don't grow as an entrepreneur, the business won't grow. Remember that every time you say yes to something, you're saying no to a bunch of other things. As soon as things start going well, don't create new overwhelm. Life will overwhelm you already. Like attracts like, if you're overwhelmed you're going to develop more overwhelm. Begin removing the things in your life that aren't producing momentum and don't allow yourself to put up with more. Optimize and put effort into what you're already doing, and your business will grow like crazy. Life will already overwhelm you, don't add to it.

    515 - Charfen Update: 24 Months in Business Jul 03, 2019
    Show notes

We just had the close of our second full year in business. The last six months have been exceptional for us. Our company has been growing like crazy. One of the major things we've focused on is planning. I always say that if you don't have a plan, you're going to be the biggest bottleneck. We've used our strategic planning process to coach 100's of millions of dollars in growth with our clients. Another thing we've really cracked down on is documentation of key processes and simplifying everything we possibly can to scale.

To put things into context, in September of last year, we pulled all of our paid marketing so I could get out of sales and delivery. As a result, we grew our team to 15 people and had our most profitable year yet. We also launched our newest product, Billionaire Code Foundation. We started the Foundation with a small beta group. Our goal was 25 sales, and we ended at 32, with NO paid marketing. In the past few months, we also dealt with some serious health issues with my wife, Cadey. With my wife out of commission and me working at 30% productivity, our business still grew thanks to our incredible team. I can't stress this enough...having the right team is everything.

We're currently at a $3 million run rate and on our way to the $3 - $10 million growth phase on the Billionaire Code. Stepping into this leader phase and delegating success has led us to have an amazing team culture. But the biggest and most exciting thing that has happened in the last two years is our client success stories. So many of our clients are exploding and hitting new milestones. Tune into the show for a full overview of what the past 24 months in business have looked like for us!
