IBS Symptoms Explained: Why Your Gut Is Bloated and Irritated Jun 11, 2026
    Show notes

If you've been diagnosed with IBS, or you have ongoing belly issues that testing keeps coming back "clear" on, this episode is for you.

IBS is often given as a label once the serious causes are ruled out, but a label doesn't tell you what to do next. Your bowel isn't simply "irritable." Something is irritating it, and identifying that something is where real progress starts.

I'm Dr. E, the NP with the PhD. In this episode I break down what IBS actually is, why it matters well beyond your stomach, and a practical, step-by-step way to start calming and repairing your gut.

I cover the medical rule-out you shouldn't skip, how to use a food diary and elimination diet to pinpoint your triggers, why bloating and gas trace back to your microbiome, what SIBO is and how it's tested, how antibiotics and acid-blocking drugs can quietly set off IBS symptoms, and the correct order to eliminate, repair, reinoculate, and reintroduce foods so that probiotics actually help rather than make things worse.

If you've already cut the obvious foods, tried the gut-friendly supplements, and you're still uncomfortable, the problem usually isn't you. Let's dig in.

Hormones or Anxiety? How to Tell What's Really Going On ft. Dr. Ellen Vora Jun 09, 2026
    Show notes

Anxious in your 40s for the first time ever? Before you assume it's anxiety, let’s figure out what is actually happening.

In this episode of the Medical Disruptor, I sat down with Dr. Ellen Vora, a board-certified psychiatrist and the author of The Anatomy of Anxiety, and she said something I keep coming back to.

A lot of what doctors call anxiety in women over 40 is actually perimenopause. Progesterone is a calming hormone, so when it starts to drop, you get the 3am wake-ups and the out-of-nowhere dread that look exactly like an anxiety disorder.

This goes deeper than menopause, though. Ellen broke down how to tell the difference between what she calls false anxiety, the avoidable kind that comes from things like blood sugar crashes, bad sleep, inflammation, and hormone shifts, and true anxiety, which is more like your inner compass telling you something is genuinely out of alignment.

We also got into why there isn't solid evidence that anxiety is a serotonin chemical imbalance and why your gut may be driving a lot of it.

If your anxiety has never made sense to you, this is where you stop asking how to feel less anxious and start asking what it's trying to tell you.

Hashimoto's: Why Your Thyroid Is the "Check Engine Light" Jun 04, 2026
    Show notes

Why Your Thyroid Is the "Check Engine Light" Your thyroid is the check engine light, not the engine. With Hashimoto's, the real story is happening in your gut, your immune system, and your stress physiology, often years before your thyroid shows it. If you have Hashimoto's and you're only chasing your thyroid numbers, you're missing the bigger question: why is your immune system attacking your thyroid in the first place? In this episode of the Medical Disruptor, I break down what Hashimoto's actually is, what the standard "replace the hormone" approach misses, and why your low-functioning thyroid is often a check engine light for something deeper, including gut health, gluten, infections, chronic stress, and toxins.

I'm Dr. E, the NP with the PhD, and I help humans go from medically gaslit to medically empowered. We'll cover leaky gut and the gluten-to-TPO connection, the gut microbiome's role in converting T4 to T3, infections like EBV and H. pylori, how chronic stress and cortisol affect your thyroid, endocrine-disrupting toxins, and the smartest next steps to take before you reach for supplements. The Real Reason You're Always Exhausted ft. Dr. Anil Bajnath Jun 02, 2026
    Show notes

What if the fatigue you've learned to live with is the earliest warning sign of something building inside you for years?

In this episode of the Medical Disruptor I sit down with Dr. Anil Bajnath, a board-certified physician and the founder of a precision medicine institute, to talk about why so many of us feel exhausted, foggy, and off, and what's actually driving it beneath the surface.

We get into what's really fueling chronic fatigue at the cellular level, why our healthcare system is built to catch disease far too late, and what you can actually do to find the root cause instead of being told to just manage your stress.

Dr. B also shares how to take real agency over your own health, the one question more patients should be asking, and why the future of medicine is built around you instead of population averages.

If you've ever felt unheard, or knew something was off even when you couldn't explain it, this conversation will help you understand your own body well enough to get ahead of disease instead of waiting for it.

What the Microbiome Has to Do With How You Heal ft Dr. Rebecca Knackstedt May 26, 2026
    Show notes

You're scheduled for surgery and your surgeon says "you don't need to do anything to prepare." That's medical gaslighting.

In this episode of The Medical Disruptor, I sit down with Dr. Becky Knackstedt, a plastic and reconstructive microsurgeon at Duke with an MD, PhD, and functional medicine certification from the Cleveland Clinic.

She's published over 80 peer-reviewed papers and she's done what almost no surgeon does. She questioned what she was taught.

We get into why surgical prehabilitation dramatically cuts complications, infections, and hospital stays, and why the system still isn't doing it.

Dr. Becky breaks down the protein, vitamin D, and probiotic protocols that actually move the needle on recovery, why just 5 days of targeted nutrition can change your outcome, and the microbiome connection that nobody in surgery is talking about. She also blows up some of the most damaging pre-op myths still being repeated in operating rooms across the country. Omega-3s, estrogen patches, and IUDs do not need to be stopped before surgery, despite what you've been told.

This is the conversation every patient needs before they sign the consent form. Whether it's breast reconstruction, orthopedic surgery, or a cosmetic procedure, the weeks before matter just as much as the surgery itself.

You are not powerless and you are not just a body on a table. You have a role in your own recovery and this episode shows you exactly how to use it.

What a Gastroenterologist Wants You to Know About Gut Health ft. Dr. Supriya Rao May 19, 2026
    Show notes

If you have ever felt like something is off in your gut and nobody has been able to explain why, this episode is for you. On this episode of the Medical Disruptor, I sit down with Dr. Supriya Rao, a quadruple board certified gastroenterologist, to talk about what chronic gut symptoms are actually telling you, why the gut-brain connection is one of the most undertreated areas in medicine today, and what it looks like when a doctor goes beyond the standard workup to find real answers. We cover the truth about IBS, how hormones affect gut health in ways most people never get told, where GLP-1s actually fit into the picture, and the one question Dr. Rao says almost no patient ever thinks to ask. You Had COVID and Never Got Better Here Is the Reason Why May 15, 2026
    Show notes

You had COVID. You recovered. Except you didn't.

The fatigue is still there. The brain fog. The shortness of breath. The feeling that your body just isn't yours anymore. And when you brought it up, you were told to give it time.

That's not an answer. That's medical gaslighting.

In this episode I'm breaking down the real biology behind why so many people never fully bounce back after COVID, and why the standard workup misses it almost every time. We cover what Long COVID actually is, why the severity of your infection has nothing to do with whether you get it, and how it can hit your brain, gut, heart, and nervous system all at once.

I'll walk you through the ACE2 pathway, what happens when it gets disrupted, and why that single mechanism explains so many of the seemingly unrelated symptoms people are living with. We'll also get into mitochondrial dysfunction, why it's the reason you crash after any exertion, and the six recovery pillars that address the actual mechanism instead of just managing what's loud.

If you have been dismissed, told to be patient, or made to feel like you're overreacting, this episode is for you.

Your experience is real. The biology backs it up. And now you have the language to prove it.

Why Your Anxiety in Your 40s Might Not Actually Be Anxiety ft Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly May 12, 2026
    Show notes

If you've hit your 40s and suddenly feel like you're losing it, waking up at 3 a.m., feeling on edge for no reason, exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't fix, I want you to hear this: it might not be anxiety. It might be perimenopause.

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly, a double board-certified physician in internal and integrative medicine, to talk about the symptoms most of us are normalizing and most doctors are missing.

We get into why progesterone decline shows up as anxiety, insomnia, and those 3 a.m. wake-ups long before any hot flash ever does, and why so many women in this stage of life are sent home with an antidepressant or an Ambien instead of an honest conversation about their hormones.

That's medical gaslighting, and it's stealing years of quality of life from women in their 40s. We talk about why hormone testing isn't the answer, what to track instead, and when to ask your doctor about progesterone even if you're still getting a regular period.

If you've been told to lose some weight, try meditation, or just push through, this one is for you. You're not crazy. You're not weak. You're hormonal, and there is so much we can actually do about it.

The Fuel Source Your Body Is Missing and How to Get It ft. Dr. Latt Mansor May 05, 2026
    Show notes

Ketones may be the most underrated fuel source in human metabolism, and most people only hear about them in the context of intermittent fasting or the ketogenic diet. When your body burns fat, it produces ketones- molecules that have been shown to support brain health, heart health, cognitive function, and longevity. The problem is that fasting and strict keto aren't realistic for most people, so the question is: Is there actually a way to get the benefits of ketones without giving up food?

That's exactly what my guest this week on the Medical Disruptor set out to answer. Dr. Latt Mansor earned his PhD in metabolism from Oxford and is the lead scientist behind Ketone-IQ, a ketone-based drink that gives the body the same fuel source you'd typically only access through fasting. In this episode of The Medical Disruptor, we're going deep on how ketones work, why your metabolism may be the missing piece in your health story, and how to use ketosis to take your energy, focus, and longevity to the next level.

I cover what ketones really are and why your brain and heart love them, the science behind intermittent fasting, paleo, and ketogenic diets, and why so many women are told their fatigue and brain fog are "normal" when their metabolism is actually the root cause. We get into how exogenous ketones work, who they're for, and practical ways to use them without overhauling your entire life.

If you've been medically gaslit about your energy, your weight, or your metabolic health and told everything looks "fine," this conversation is going to give you a completely different lens. You don't have to fast to feel better. You just need the right information, and that's what we're here for.

How to Boost Your Metabolism: Your Body Isn't Broken (Here's What's Actually Happening) Apr 30, 2026
    Show notes

Metabolism gets oversimplified all the time. Eat less, move more. That's the whole conversation. For a lot of people, that's where medical gaslighting begins.

In this solo episode, I wanted to slow down and actually explain what metabolism is: your body's system for managing energy. Not a measure of effort or discipline, actually a biological process influenced by multiple factors at once.

I walk through four of the most important ones: food quality, insulin signaling, the microbiome, and mitochondrial function. I also get into why the "calories in, calories out" model doesn't account for how differently your body processes various foods, and why nutrigenomics, the study of how food communicates with your genes, changes the way we should be thinking about nutrition entirely.

We also talk about Akkermansia, a gut bacterium that's showing up more and more in metabolism research, and the role of polyphenol-rich foods in supporting it. The episode closes with a practical checklist you can actually use: healthy fats, eating a wide variety of colorful plants, reducing refined sugar and flour, incorporating intentional movement, targeted nutrients, and consistent sleep.

The goal of this conversation is less blame, more clarity. Fewer generalizations that leave people feeling stuck or at fault for something that has a real biological explanation.
