Get Rid of Self-Criticism Once and For All Mar 04, 2021
    Show notes

We’ve all heard the phrase, “You’re your own worst critic.” Those feelings you can’t quite shake off -- the fear of judgment, embarrassment, or showing who we really are -- they stop us from growing and doing the things we want to do. But why do we believe these negative views of ourselves without question? Why can’t we accept that the things we do are “good enough?” The truth is, it’s become a habit -- and a very deeply ingrained one at that.

So often, I see people knock themselves down before even trying. It is a debilitating habit that so many of us have gotten used to doing. However, there are ways to help alleviate intense self-criticism and to start living in a state of ease, knowing we have everything we need inside of us, to succeed.

Use this episode’s tips and techniques to stop your self-criticism and pair them with this week’s featured download, the One-Page Personal Plan, to keep yourself on track to reach your goals. To access the free download now, visit this link: www.maketimeforsuccesspodcast.com/plan.

From Self-Doubt to Limitless Self Belief: Shifting Your Identity for the Better with Jess O'Connell Feb 25, 2021
    Show notes

Send Dr. Li a text here. Please leave your email address if you would like a reply, thanks.

Our identity consists of who we are, the type of people we surround ourselves with, the things we enjoy, our values and beliefs, and sometimes...the things people say about us. The pressure and weight of what others think of you can be strong opponents in the process of finding your true identity. Self-doubt can creep in and stunt us further. So, how do we stop these thoughts and find our true selves? What beliefs and stories are you telling yourself that prevent you from being you and arriving at the place you want to be?

This week, Jess O’Connell speaks to us about her self-identity journey, the struggles she faced along the way, and how she was able to find herself and arrive at fulfillment and success in her work. She will teach us how she decided that no one else was going to be in control of her circumstances, and how she overcame all the negative voices in her head. You’ll hear all about the day where everything clicked for her, and how her journey officially began as a business owner.

Jess O’Connell is a Launch Coach and she helps online coaches and course creators scale their audience and influence through launching.

If you didn’t doubt yourself, or hold yourself back because of what others might think of you, what type of person do you think you would be?

How to Solve Your Worry Problem Feb 11, 2021
    Show notes

Send Dr. Li a text here. Please leave your email address if you would like a reply, thanks.

We all have fears that stop us from doing, achieving, and succeeding. Even after years of training myself, I still have fears and worries just like everyone else!

I’ve learned from being a psychologist that worrying doesn’t do us a whole lot of favors, and fear doesn’t get us anywhere good. It’s not to say worry is always a bad thing -- it’s just human nature to get worried sometimes. However, we can worry too much, and that is when it starts to get in the way of our moving forward or pushing through barriers in our way.

Fear has stopped me from doing a lot of things! But I’ve learned how to manage it better over the years. I am certain that it’s something we can all push past too. Worry is normal, but when we aren’t mindful of it, it can become a habit. We become stuck in this worry wormhole and fear begins to rise to the surface, making it hard to get out.

In this episode, you’ll learn how I got out of this cycle of worry. After this episode, you’ll have a better understanding of how to make your fears more manageable and how to stop thinking small and live up to the dreams you’ve set for yourself.

How to Create a Healthy Relationship with Your Work with Susan Chiang Jan 26, 2021
    Show notes

Send Dr. Li a text here. Please leave your email address if you would like a reply, thanks.

Ask yourself, “If I had the courage to be real with myself and set boundaries with my work, could I?”

We have all been in a place where our work seems to take priority over our lives or perhaps you’re currently stuck in that spot right now. When you see or hear the word “work” what do you feel? Does your body tense up? Does it make you feel uneasy?

I’ve always been the type of person to say “YES!” to everything. I remember slaving over projects constantly, never having time for myself to develop myself the way I wanted to. I thought by “doing all the things,” I would feel more fulfilled but all I really felt was exhaustion and fatigue. I realize now, I never set boundaries with my work. I never decided for myself that I have the power to say “no,” and take on the work that makes me happy.

In this week’s episode, I am joined by Susan Chiang, a watercolor artist and teacher. She’s built her business around sharing her love of watercolors with others so they can enjoy their creative processes and see improvement in their art. However, it wasn’t always like this. After leaving a draining corporate job, she decided it was time to move on as the stress and exhaustion started to take over her life and energy.

Looking back now, Susan realized things may not have gone as bad if she knew how to set boundaries at work. Susan shares with us her journey and how she created a business and lifestyle that works for her. You will also learn how to get a better understanding of how to achieve a better relationship with your work whether it’s new to you or you’re looking to take it up a notch.

    Timestamps:

[17:00] - We all carry a lot of self-doubt when it comes to our work.

[19:00] - Being vulnerable can be uncomfortable but it can help you grow.

[19:28] - Find your confidence by surrounding yourself with a community that fosters your growth.

[22:18] - Your attitude towards your work should not be an all-or-nothing attitude. Be more gentle with yourself and know that progress is not measured by failure. It’s your ability to get back up when you fall behind.

[22:42] - Everyone shows up in different ways. Consistency over time will get you further than if you quit something after a few attempts.

[24:32] - The rules are yours to make and break. Adjust the rules to work with your life.

Transform Your Speaking Voice into a Powerful Tool for Success with Tracy Goodwin Jan 25, 2021
    Show notes

Send Dr. Li a text here. Please leave your email address if you would like a reply, thanks.

How can I use my voice to feel successful and achieve success?

“Nice girls can’t be loud.” “Women must be professional in the workplace.” “People won’t like you if you speak up.” Sound familiar?

For some time, I didn’t realize the true power a voice could have. Your voice is a precious thing, it’s almost a form of identity; it can captivate an audience, or impact whether you get a job. It can even determine whether others want to listen to what you have to say. There are a variety of factors that affect our voice over time. But sometimes, we get stuck. We’re no longer getting what we want or have the confidence in ourselves to start living how we want, on our terms, not someone else’s. So, when we truly learn how to step into our voice, our world transforms from the inside out.

My guest in this episode, Tracy Goodwin, is a voice coach. She’s an expert with over 30 years of experience in teaching others how to use their voice to “show up” and transform their lives. She’s taught hundreds of people to step into their voice power, make them sound more confident, heal their voice story, and make an impact with their voice message.

Tracy shares with us her research and her process for digging deep into the depths of the voice and the fears we hold onto, and how we can learn how to show up with our voice. She will also be sharing some awesome action items that you can implement right away for having more confidence and shatter the assumptions you might make when “showing up.”

It’s time to show up with your voice!

    Timestamps:

[16:14] Judgment is just a perception. You can’t step into your voice until you embody that.

[17:55] Silence is golden. When you feel like you have to “break the silence,” what is the meaning you’re giving that silence - that you failed? Reframe that silence and get okay with it. “Get comfortable with the uncomfortable.”

[18:21] Reframe the meaning you are giving things. Nervousness exists in the past and the future. Get back to being in the now.

[20:00] Give yourself permission to stand in that power of silence.

[21:07] Train yourself to assume that everything is fine. Assume there is no threat; that you’re not going to mess up. Stand in your confidence and enjoy the moment.

[21:47] Your voice only has power in the “now.” It does not exist in the past or future. You cannot control the future but you can control the conversation. Act as if the outcome is already yours.

How to See the Possibilities for Fulfillment at Work and at Home with Lisa Canning Jan 24, 2021
    Show notes

Send Dr. Li a text here. Please leave your email address if you would like a reply, thanks.

Is it possible to have kids AND have a successful and fulfilling life and career? The short answer is, OF COURSE IT IS!

It’s common for women to feel a sense of unease when it comes to choosing between a career and having kids. Women may even wait a long time to even think about having kids because they want to have kids after they’ve established their career. Whatever your views are, they are all valid, but I would like to tell you it’s absolutely possible to have both and be successful.

In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Lisa Canning, a coach, entrepreneur, and mother of eight children! She is known for her involvement at HGTV but now she is also known as the Possibility Mom. Before Lisa became the Possibility Mom, she had a career in broadcast television. She managed to work season after season in the TV industry, all while growing and raising her family. However, the decisions she was making all began to wear on her mind, body, and spirit. One day she found herself in her minivan thinking how tired, exhausted, guilty and in pain she felt. After having ongoing conversations with her husband, she realized she couldn’t keep doing what she was doing.

Lisa shares her colorful journey and how she managed to create the work and home life she wanted, all while having kids and redefining what success looked like for her. In this episode, you’ll learn how to adjust and open your mind up to possibility, finding balance, and cultivating your own version of success.

    Timestamps:

[18:15] Looking at your life using a bird’s eye view.

    [23:19] Getting comfortable with failure.

[25:18] Becoming intentional with who you really are makes you feel more aligned and happy. It is important to understand the difference between dealing with something about your identity that you find “embarrassing” versus embracing who you really are.

[33:49] Overwhelm is often a lack of skill.

How to Develop Your Mindset for Abundance and Success with Melanie Moore Jan 23, 2021
    Show notes

Send Dr. Li a text here. Please leave your email address if you would like a reply, thanks.

Envisioning the life you want can be daunting and can even generate self-limiting thoughts. But what if I told you that there are tools to quiet that voice inside your head and that it’s possible to have the courage to start manifesting your dream and make it reality... would you do it? Would you be open to change and to taking the actions necessary to make your vision come to life?

This episode is all about tapping (also known as EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique). Tapping is a very powerful stress relief technique. You can tap for abundance, anxiety reduction, gratitude -- there are so many possibilities to “tap” into. Tapping grants us the power to change our mindset so that we can reach for our true potential and make the goals we want to reach possible.

When I started to introduce tapping into my life I had no idea what I was in store for. I began to realize the self-limiting beliefs that held me back from doing my best. Tapping is a way to help support the positive belief in ourselves and our desire to create the future we want. I can tell you from personal experience with tapping that it is a simple, but fascinatingly powerful tool!

My guest for this episode is Melanie Moore. She is a mindset and manifestation coach who uses the power of tapping to help her clients change the trajectory of their lives. Before she got started in this line of work, she worked in the corporate world. However, once her children were born and still young, she realized she didn’t want to go back; Melanie wanted to start her own business. She always had an interest in holistic therapies, where she eventually came across tapping/EFT. Now, she’s helping her clients get clear on their vision by helping them commit to their goals by taking action and creating their dream lives through a range of different tapping techniques.

I can’t wait for you to learn more about this powerful stress relief technique. I hope it helps you gain clarity on how you want to live and how tapping can transform your life.

    Timestamps:

    7:22 - What is tapping?

18:47 - Tapping can help reframe a story we've had in our minds that would have previously held us back.

20:24 - If you keep telling yourself the same story, that reality will come true, so write a better story that will make you feel good.

24:09 - An example of how tapping has transformed the life of one of Melanie’s clients.
