The Chargers Could Improve Pass Rush With BJ Ojulari Or Calijah Kancey In The NFL Draft Mar 06, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have stalwarts Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack at EDGE rusher but should look for another contributor early in the 2023 NFL Draft. If they elect to go rusher in round one, LSU's BJ Ojulari could make an impact early and serve as a great insurance plan to the Chargers stars. Ojulari would bring some speed and bend to the LA pass rush, but they could target elite quickness or more power instead. Calijah Kancey is very undersized at defensive tackle but has elite traits to be excited about. Is the Pittsburgh pass rusher's arsenal and explosive quickness enough to offset his lack of size and arm strength? Lukas Van Ness has size to spare. Physically Van Ness lives up to his herculean nickname with a ton of power and a relentless motor. Unfortunately, the guys wonder how quickly he will develop the other parts of his game due to his inexperience after never starting a game at Iowa.

Los Angeles Chargers TE Gerald Everett Could Be One Of Multiple Starters Released Soon Mar 03, 2023

Show notes

Some Chargers starters will likely be cap casualties in the coming weeks including productive tight end Gerald Everett. The money has to come from somewhere, but Everett's contributions will not be easily replaced with an unclear backup plan. The guys also discuss if Los Angeles will stick to best player available in the first round of the draft, even if it's position of less need like running back. It's apparent the Chargers need some speed in the draft as well, but adding one speed option probably isn't enough. One place they might find some more explosiveness is at tight end, but is there one good enough to trade up for?

Los Angeles Chargers Star WR Keenan Allen Isn't Going Anywhere According To GM Tom Telesco Mar 02, 2023

Show notes

Chargers receiver Keenan Allen has constantly been the topic of trade and cut rumors, but Tom Telesco shut that talk down. The Los Angeles general manager all but guaranteed Allen will be with the team in 2023 and that is great news for Justin Herbert. In worse news, the NFLPA surveyed every team and the Chargers earned a scathing review. The team ranked near the bottom in everything from nutritional needs to how much the players feel like their families are taken care of. The Chargers have started to show their commitment to change with a state of the art facility being built and parting ways with their head athletic trainer. Will the Chargers lose out on free agents now that their flaws have been brought to light?

Chargers HC Brandon Staley Confident In Roster Strength Even With Cap Woes Mar 01, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have less cap flexibility this offseason but Brandon Staley likes where the roster is at. Compared to 2022, the Chargers have more starting spots accounted for but will need to find a couple of them in the draft. Staley gushed over his new coordinators Kellen Moore and Derrick Ansley, and gave insight on why the Chargers moved quickly to secure both. Moore should be an improvement, but the team must get Justin Herbert more speed on offense to truly allow him to blossom. Staley insinuated that one of the positions they might be able to find a difference maker at is at tight end.

Los Angeles Chargers CB Asante Samuel Jr. Could Make A Star Leap In 2023 Feb 28, 2023

Show notes

Some Chargers should be greatly improved in 2023, but Asante Samuel Jr.'s aggressive streak could launch him into NFL stardom in Los Angeles. Will he continue to be a ballhawk, or will his boom or bust style end up backfiring? WR Joshua Palmer and RB Josh Kelley both took strides in 2022, and will be looking to expand their roles on offense. Who the Chargers take in the draft could be the only thing standing in their way. Leaps come in all shapes and sizes, and certain players will have to fight just to stay on the team. After failing to earn snaps last season, Isaiah Spiller and JT Woods have to improve if they want to find their way to playing Tim for the Chargers in 2023.

Dynamic WR Zay Flowers Would Bring Chargers And Justin Herbert Much Needed Explosiveness Feb 27, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers may look for a wide receiver in round one of the draft and Zay Flowers checks a lot of boxes. Although very small by NFL standards, Flowers is a nightmare in the open field and brings the juice the Chargers have desperately needed. TCU's Quentin Johnston has also been linked to Los Angeles and brings a level of speed the team doesn't have on the roster. Would the Chargers be willing to look past his flaws and take a flyer at pick 21? Dan and David also take a look at another of the top tight ends, Darnell Washington. The Georgia TE is a physical freak that would help the Chargers get more physical at the line of scrimmage.

How The Chargers Get Under The Cap Without Losing Keenan Allen And Joey Bosa Feb 24, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers are in a dire salary cap situation, but if they play their cards right they can get under the cap without losing their biggest stars. Restructuring contracts comes with consequences, but the risk may be worth it to make another run with Joey Bosa and Keenan Allen in 2023. Unlike reports have suggested, the Chargers defensive coordinator position remains vacant. Is Derrick Ansley still the favorite? Young up-and-comers Doug Belk and DeMarcus Covington are throwing their hats into the ring. Los Angeles also made a change with their training staff, letting go of their lead trainer Damon Mitchell. After being plagued with injuries, the Chargers will see if they can find someone to keep the roster healthier.

RB Bijan Robinson Would Revamp Chargers Running Game But Bigger Needs Could Be Addressed Feb 22, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers could address one of many needs in the first round of the draft but running back is low on the list. Texas’ RB Bijan Robinson has so many special traits, that the team will have to consider him if he’s available at pick 21. The Chargers could just decide to go all offense early on to truly maximize Justin Herbert. What they can’t do, is pigeonhole themselves into taking a need if a defender is the best player available. One variable in the draft process is what impact will new coordinator Kellen Moore have on personnel decisions?

Los Angeles Chargers Allow DC Renaldo Hill To Leave, Move Quickly To Promote Derrick Ansley Feb 21, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles allowed defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill to take a demotion in Miami, but it could be a blessing in disguise. Hill may have saw the writing on the wall in LA, or maybe the Chargers will get more from new DC Derrick Ansley. After failing to get the most out of a defense with stars like Derwin James and Joey Bosa, a change felt necessary. The team did move extremely fast to promote Ansley after his impressive work in the secondary. Can his track record of development spread throughout the rest of the defense? The Chargers also promoted Tom Donatell into a new role as secondary coach and passing game coordinator. After receiving interest from other teams, Los Angeles seemed eager to lock his services down with a bigger role.

EDGE Nolan Smith Would Give Chargers Short And Long-Term Help Behind Joey Bosa And Khalil Mack Feb 20, 2023

Show notes

Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack are great but the Los Angeles Chargers could look to invest in an edge rusher like Georgia's Nolan Smith in the first round of the draft. Smith's could be the heir to the pass rushing throne, but also has the ability to make an impact in 2023 and provide injury insurance. If they wait to find a pass-rusher, they could target Tuli Tuipulato from USC. The guys discuss why Tuli is fun to watch, but does come with some concerns that would make the pause. Dan and David also get into Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson and why they are staying away in round one.
