Los Angeles Chargers Weapons Austin Ekeler And Gerald Everett Should Thrive Under OC Moore Feb 01, 2023

Show notes

Justin Herbert was the focal point behind the Kellen Moore hire for the Los Angeles Chargers, but Austin Ekeler and the running backs could be the biggest beneficiaries. Moore also used his tight ends frequently in Dallas which should mean bigger roles for Gerald Everett and Donald Parham. The guys also discuss if Moore could be bringing over some Cowboys coaches, or even a player like Tony Pollard. The Chargers will have a tough time bringing in anyone with their cap situation, and will face big decisions on Keenan Allen and Michael Davis. They also must find a way to bring back right tackle Trey Pipkins, while they can still afford him.

The Los Angeles Chargers Hire Kellen Moore At OC To Take Justin Herbert To The Next Level Jan 31, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers lucked out when former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore became available, and they moved quickly to secure his services. After leading one of the league's top offenses, Moore should be a major improvement for Justin Herbert and the Charger's offense. Los Angeles has lacked explosiveness and in recent years, and that was one area Dak Prescott thrived under Moore. The guys also discuss why the new man in charge should help the Chargers in the second half and in the red zone as well. The Cowboys have also been one of the most efficient rushing attacks as well, which is one are that should definitely improve with Moore.

Los Angeles Chargers Star QB Justin Herbert Wins MVP At 2023 Bolty Awards Jan 30, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles had a tough season, but Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert find a way to elevate those around him and will his team to the playoffs. That perseverance has won him the MVP award at the 2023 Boltys! Austin Ekeler did it all in a career season, and his touchdown prowess made him the Chargers premier offensive player. Defensively, there is a case for Derwin James or Drue Tranquill as the best player in that side of the ball. Los Angeles Chargers saw some huge improvements in player development, but the biggest jump was tackle Trey Pipkins. The most unanimous vote of this awards show was one Chargers hater, that ran away with the Clown of the Year.

Chargers New OC Candidates Joe Brady And Thomas Brown Bring Different Philosophies To Search Jan 26, 2023

Show notes

The Chargers are bringing two new candidates into their offensive coordinator search including Joe Brady who was most recently with the Bills explosive offense centered around Josh Allen. Brady could bring out more exciting version of Justin Herbert, while Rams coach and former running back Thomas Brown could help turn around the Chargers struggling run game. Brady was one of the hottest head coaching candidates a couple years ago, and has worked with great quarterbacks like Allen, Joe Burrow and Drew Brees. He also has experience as offensive coordinator, but things were a dumpster fire in Carolina with bad quarterbacks and red flags about play-calling and adjustments. Brown brings a different perspective with a more run heavy philosophy and has been a rising star in Sean McVay coaching tree. Brown also has experience as a collegiate play-caller, but is he too green at the NFL level to be trusted with Herbert?

Chargers Must Address Biggest Needs In The Draft With Tough Free Agency Decisions Looming Jan 25, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have put themselves in a cap predicament in 2023, which means they will have to fill big needs at edge rusher and wide receiver in the draft. To stay in contention next season the Chargers will have to make decisions on free agents like Trey Pipkins and Drue Tranquil. Who will they prioritize? No matter what, Los Angeles can't keep everyone and could potentially lose some key contributors. Justin Herbert has always been questioned as a more reserved player, but it doesn't make him less likely to win than some of the more outwardly confident QBs. Almost all attention is on the Chargers offense after a disappointing season, but the defense has been hard to trust as well under Brandon Staley.

The Los Angeles Chargers Offensive Coordinator Search Has Early Favorite In Zac Robinson Jan 24, 2023

Show notes

The Chargers have now officially started interviewing new offensive coordinators, and Rams QB coach Zac Robinson seems to make the most sense of the early candidates. With Justin Herbert's future on the line, Los Angeles must decide whether they want experience or something young and new. Could the Chargers strike out because they want to find a diamond in the rough? Almost every early target has a tie to Sean McVay, but the team should due its due diligence as well outside of that coaching tree. The guys get into their thoughts on the list of candidates so far and why they think Titans coach Luke Steckel is black sheep of the group so far.

Chargers GM Tom Telesco Talks Drue Tranquill, Trey Pipkins And Other Challenging Offseason Decisions Jan 20, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco may have tipped his hand a bit on free agents Drue Tranquill and Nasir Adderley. Many changes are on the horizon and Justin Herbert will have input on maybe the biggest upcoming change, the new offensive coordinator. Will Herbert speak up about what he wants? One thing he definitely wants back is star receiver Keenan Allen, who Telesco implied isn't going anywhere. The Chargers GM also opened up on his thoughts of the 2022 rookie class. There were some highs like Jamaree Salyer and Zion Johnson, but he said he needs to see big offseason for JT Woods and Isaiah Spiller.

Los Angeles Chargers Brandon Staley Stands By Decisions And Talks New Offensive Coordinator Wants Jan 19, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley was somewhat defiant in his end of season press conference doubling down on his controversial decisions. Staley said he thinks the Chargers over performed in 2022, and that he would still play his starters in Week 18 again even with Mike Williams injury. With a vacancy at offensive coordinator, Staley talked about what he wants to see from Joe Lombardi's replacement. One crucial part of it is that the Chargers must get much better at running the football to help the team become more explosive.

Chargers OC Joe Lombardi Fired And Must Get Replacement Right For Justin Herbert Jan 18, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have let go of offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and QB coach Shane Day after a disappointing effort in 2022. They now will have to make one of the most important decisions of the offseason, bringing in the coach that can successfully get the most out of superstar quarterback Justin Herbert. The guys discuss why the Chargers OC job should be heavily coveted and why the running game and more explosive play calling have to be at the forefront of the search. One coach that could make sense is the Chargers former OC Frank Reich. The guys discuss the pros and cons of bringing in a familiar face that has improved greatly since his first stint.

Is Los Angeles Chargers GM Tom Telesco Safe After Another Underachieving Season? Jan 17, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have gigantic decisions to make this offseason including whether to retain general manager Tom Telesco. He has hit some home runs in the draft, but is that enough to overcome questionable roster and coaching decisions? The Chargers staff is almost certainly going to change substantially, potentially even moving on from both offensive and defensive coordinators. Keenan Allen struggled with his health in 2022 leading many to wonder if he could be a casualty in 2023. The guys discuss how dominant he still was when healthy, and why any move to part ways is unlikely. Justin Herbert is now eligible for his contract extension, will he still get a blank check from the Chargers?
