Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert Could Be In For Best Season Yet Under OC Kellen Moore Feb 17, 2023

Show notes

Justin Herbert should be in for a bounce back season with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore at the helm, but can we expect MVP type production? A more balanced offense should lead to more chances, but the clearest path to improvement is getting healthier in 2023. The weapons at Justin Herbert's disposal could change dramatically depending on Keenan Allen's future. Is Mike Williams equipped to be WR1? Receiver is a position the Chargers will likely take in the draft, but edge rusher has to be considered early as well.

Los Angeles Chargers Hire QB Coach Doug Nussmeier To Help Justin Herbert Get To The Next Level Feb 16, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have hired Doug Nussmeier to be their new quarterbacks coach and he will be the latest tasked unlocking Justin Herbert’s potential. Nussmeier served under for new OC Kellen Moore with the Cowboys and now looks like the heir apparent at offensive coordinator. Herbert now has two former quarterbacks as his primary offensive coaches and which will hopefully help install the new system faster. The Chargers have also hired a new linebackers coach, Jeff Howard. Howard previously coached defensive backs with the Browns and now will be asked to turn the LB unit around for Los Angeles.

Chargers DT Breiden Fehoko Joins The Show To Discuss Playing For Brandon Staley, Teaching The Defense Feb 15, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko joins the show and breaks down the ins and outs of the defense and playing for Brandon Staley. Fehoko also discusses which one of his LSU teammates he would steal on the Chargers between Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase. The guys also get into what it's like growing up in a legendary football family, and the pressure that comes along with it. From his perspective as a DT, Fehoko does a great job talking about what it means to fit a run and what it feels like to get a stop on 4th-and-1. At an unglamorous position, Fehoko has grown in his time with the Chargers and thinks he is finally showing the NFL what he's capable of.

Chargers Could Target Speedy WR Jalin Hyatt Or Dynamic TE Dalton Kincaid In First Round Of Draft Feb 14, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers must get impact players in the 2023 NFL Draft and could look for a new weapon for Justin Herbert. If the Chargers just want speed Jalin Hyatt brings it in spades, while tight end Dalton Kincaid has a knack for yards after the catch. Can Hyatt be more than just a deep threat? The guys discuss why Kincaid would fill one of the Chargers needs, but why one area might not translate to the next level. If size is important to Los Angeles, Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer could make sense. Mayer brings the full package with the ability to make highlight reel catches and the ability to block. All of these prospects could fill a void in the Chargers offense, but are they worth the 21st overall pick?

Chargers Drue Tranquill And Trey Pipkins Must Be Re-Signed By Los Angeles Feb 10, 2023

Show notes

With limited cap space, the Los Angeles Chargers are pressed for options in free agency but should prioritize re-signing Drue Tranquill and Trey Pipkins. Other impending free agents like Morgan Fox and Kyle Van Noy may have played themselves out of the Chargers price range. There are many guys the team should be interested in bringing back, but unfortunately key contributors will likely leave. Bryce Callahan had a career year under Brandon Staley, but can they afford to bring him back? The one starter that seems likeliest to find a new team in 2023 is Nasir Adderley. After several up and down seasons and being benched, his return to Los Angeles is doubtful.

The Los Angeles Chargers Will Not Trade Joey Bosa Or Cut Khalil Mack Feb 08, 2023

Show notes

Los Angeles Chargers star pass rusher Joey Bosa had a frustrating season in 2022, but is still performing at an elite level and remains an integral part of the team. The Chargers are in win-now mode and trading Bosa or moving on from Khalil Mack seems incredibly unlikely at this point. The best way for the pass rush to get better is both star rushers on the field at the same time in 2023. Losing one, and relying heavily on a rookie draft pick would be incredibly risky. Although the Chargers are stressed for cap space, there is still much to be excited about. Justin Herbert is still in the building, and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore with a full selection of draft picks gives hope for improvement.

The Chargers May Have To Cut Keenan Allen If They Can't Pull Off Salary Cap Magic Feb 07, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers face many tough decisions ahead but the most difficult may be what to do with star wide receiver Keenan Allen. With the Chargers well over the cap threshold, releasing or trading Allen is becoming more likely even though he is still producing at a high level. There is only so much money to move around and Los Angeles must weigh if they want to push their cap problems down the road to try and keep this nucleus together right now. Even with Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer still in the mix, it's hard to imagine how the Chargers can replace Allen's production. They could add a receiver early in the draft, but with Justin Herbert at quarterback you want to be adding weapons not just releasing one to add another.

The Los Angeles Chargers Can Learn From Super Bowl Bound Eagles And Chiefs Feb 06, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers fell short in the playoffs, but there are lessons they can learn from the Eagles and Chiefs, if they want to make their own Super Bowl run. One thing the Chargers can learn from the Eagles is how to reward your young quarterback with explosive weapons, after what AJ Brown did for Jalen Hurts. Philadelphia mauls people in the trenches on both side of the ball, which is far from the case with in Los Angeles. The guys also get into Kansas City is a great example of why coaching matters. Andy Reid is an endless source of offensive knowledge, while the Chiefs' defensive coaches find a way to do more with less.

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers moved quickly to secure new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, but what led to the Cowboys to move on from him? Locked On Cowboys host Landon McCool joins to discuss the Moore and Mike McCarthy dynamic and why he thinks Justin Herbert is in good hands. McCool breaks down the best parts of the Cowboys offense under their former OC and the ability to find his players biggest strengths. The guys also get into Moore's handling of Dallas QB Dak Prescott, and how the two grew together over the years. One of the biggest questions now is, how will Moore perform now with the offense under his full control?

The Los Angeles Chargers Need Kellen Moore To Build The Justin Herbert Offense Feb 02, 2023

Show notes

New Los Angeles Chargers OC Kellen Moore spoke with the media about trying to create an offense around Justin Herbert, but so did Joe Lombardi. After evolving with Cowboys over the years, can he break through and get the most out of the Chargers offense? For the first time in his career Moore will have more freedom without Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy looking over his shoulder. With the QB coach position still open we may see another Dallas coach follow Moore to Los Angeles. Offensive schemes are great, but the guys also discuss why the hope the new OC can talk the front office into adding some speed.
