The Chargers Interested In TE Dalton Schultz But The Finances Are A Major Road Block Mar 17, 2023

Show notes

Free Agent Dalton Schultz would be a perfect fit for the Los Angeles Chargers new offense after blossoming under offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The Chargers have reportedly shown interest, but making the money work seems nearly impossible given their cap space. Austin Ekeler has now been granted the ability to seek a trade but a slow moving RB market has hurt his chances. While the Chargers have been active in free agency several key internal free agents are still unsigned. The guys discuss whether DeAndre Carter or JK Scott makes the most sense to bring back, to try and continue the special team's resurgence. Jalen Guyton and Bryce Callahan would also make sense to bring back at the right price.

The Los Angeles Chargers Re-Sign Morgan Fox And Keep A Crucial Part Of Their Pass Rush Mar 16, 2023

Show notes

Morgan Fox was excellent for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022 and even after his most successful season, the team was able to bring him back in free agency. This was an incredibly important signing for the Chargers as Fox has been quietly one of the better interior rushers in the NFL and would have been very hard to replace. Now that Fox is back, hopefully we get to see him pass rush alongside Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack which we didn't see much last year. General Manager Tom Telesco deserves a lot credit for finding a way to now bring back the team's biggest internal free agents with Fox and Trey Pipkins. Another free agent that could be the next domino for the Chargers is safety John Johnson III. With Nasir Adderley likely out of the picture now, Derwin James needs a new running mate and Johnson could look for a reunion with Brandon Staley.

The Chargers Re-Sign Trey Pipkins Securing Their Top Free Agent And Continuity On The Offensive Line Mar 15, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers found a way to retain Trey Pipkins, one of their most important starters heading into free agency. Right tackle has been a sore spot for a while and if Pipkins keeps playing well, this could be an absolute steal. Part of the fallout of the latest move is the Chargers releasing starting guard Matt Feiler to save cap. He was dependable for the Los Angeles, but the emergence of Jamaree Salyer gave them the flexibility to move on. With Salyer and Pipkins back in the starting lineup, the Chargers now have their young offensive line under contract through 2025. Kicker Cameron Dicker is coming off one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history and will be back with the Bolts in 2023. With Dustin Hopkins still under contract, it looks the two will have to battle things out for the starting role.

Chargers RB Austin Ekeler Requests A Trade And Los Angeles Signs All-Pro LB Eric Kendricks Mar 14, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers saw fireworks on Day 1 of free agency, but the biggest surprise was Austin Ekeler requesting a trade after extension talks failed. He has far exceeded his contract, but the Chargers smartly are weighing their options. Los Angeles did dip into the free agent pool bringing in former Vikings LB Eric Kendricks. Does this mean saying goodbye to Drue Tranquill? Kendricks is the older option but does bring a skillset that will improve the Chargers defense in a couple of key areas. Monday also marked when teams have to tender their restricted free agents but Donald Parham and Breiden Fehoko were allowed to test the market. The guys give their arguments to bring both back in some capacity but understand they could find greener pastures elsewhere.

Chargers Gear Up For Free Agency By Clearing Cap Space While Retaining Stars Like Keenan Allen Mar 13, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers found a way to get under the NFL salary cap while finding a way to keep their stars like Keenan Allen and Joey Bosa. GM Tom Telesco is throwing caution to the wind heading into free agency with risky decisions in an attempt to keep the nucleus of the team together in 2023. This extra space allows the Chargers a chance to keep important internal free agents like Drue Tranquill and Trey Pipkins. The early wave of free agency moves have made Tranquill less likely, but the guys hope Los Angeles can sign Pipkins before the market takes off. Morgan Fox remains one of the Chargers most underrated free agents while also being one of the hardest players to replace. Fox could be expensive, but there are several possible way the Chargers could open up some more cap space if they need to.

The Los Angeles Chargers Will Make Justin Herbert The Highest Paid QB And The Sooner The Better Mar 09, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers have their franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert and should extend him before the others in his class like Joe Burrow. Will the Lamar Jackson contract situation lead to Herbert ask for a fully guaranteed contract? With the draft coming up, the hosts wonder if this will be the year Tom Telesco will trade back for the first time. He should consider it. Dan and David also discuss who they don't want the Chargers to pick at 21, and why more people aren't considering running back Bijan Robinson.

The Los Angeles Chargers Must Find This Year's Kyle Van Noy And Morgan Fox In Free Agency Mar 08, 2023

Show notes

Morgan Fox and Kyle Van Noy saved the Chargers defensively in 2022, and they will need to find new low cost vets to fill those roles. Michael Brockers and Troy Hill could be buy low candidates that could want to regain value under their former coach Brandon Staley. Leonard Floyd is out of the Chargers price range, but DeMarcus Walker would be a cheaper option that also has a Staley connection. The guys also discuss adding a couple of less expensive options the team could add at safety to give Alohi Gilman some competition.

The Chargers Have Options To Add Offensive Explosiveness On A Budget In Free Agency Mar 07, 2023

Show notes

The Los Angeles Chargers will be on a strict budget as they enter the free agency period and offensively they should take flyers on some discount different makers. RB Raheem Mostert could make sense as a home run threat for the backfield, that shouldn't break the bank. D'Ernest Johnson is another back that could add some competition to the running back room on the cheap after a down 2022. The Chargers need speed at receiver, and could target a couple of 4.3 options. While Parris Campbell and Darius Slayton would fill that need, they come with their fair share of red flags. If WR Cedrick Wilson is released, he could look for a reunion with former OC Kellen Moore.
