Cleveland Browns Projected To Get Multiple Starters Back vs. Miami Dolphins Nov 07, 2022
    Show notes

The Cleveland Browns (+4) ahead of their Week 10 match-up, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The over/under on the game is currently 48.The Browns (3-5) are coming off of their bye week, but before that, they had a dominant 32-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. It was by far the Browns' most complete game of the season, providing some hope that maybe Cleveland can get back around the .500 mark over the next three games, just in time for the return of Deshaun Watson. The Browns (3-5) are coming off of their bye week, but before that, they had a dominant 32-13 victory over the Although it was an improvement over the previous week, Cleveland still dropped their fourth straight game and took a big hit in terms of their playoff hopes for the 2022 season. It could be argued that the defense played their best game of the season, not having any breakdowns in coverage, generating pressure on QB. The Dolphins (6-3) are coming off of a 35-32 win over the Chicago Bears (-2.5).

Tua Tagovailoa and Miami's offense has been tough to stop at times, but their defense has also allowed over 30 points in three different games. When you watch Tua play, he's executing well, but has also been a bit of a gunslinger who trusts his receivers to make a big play -- there are times when you can see that going the wrong way for him. As the Cleveland Brown try to continue to pull their season out of the hole they dug, they get a big boost in practice today. With the Miami Dolphins next on their schedule, the Browns get two starters in cornerback Denzel Ward and guard Wyatt Teller back at practice. Ward has missed the past three games, four weeks total including the bye week, with a concussion suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers. Teller suffered a calf injury against the New England Patriots and has missed the past two games. The Browns also designated running back Jerome Ford and defensive end Chase Winovich for return as well today.

The Browns have posted an 11-23 ATS mark in the past 34 games against AFC opponents. Cleveland is just 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games following a straight-up win, but it comes in well-rested after having a bye in Week 9. The Dolphins hung on and won a wild 35-32 contest against the Bears in Chicago in Week 9, but they failed to cover as 4-point favorites. The Bears trampled the Dolphins for 252 yards on the ground, including 178 yards from QB Justin Fields. Cleveland enters 3rd in the NFL with 164.6 rushing yards per game. The Browns won the most recent meeting against the Dolphins at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland back on Nov. 24, 2019, taking a 41-24 decision. The last time Miami hosted Cleveland, the Dolphins escaped with a 30-24 win in OT as the Over connected in Sept. 2016. Cleveland enters 4-1-1 ATS in the past 6 meetings overall.

Mid Season Grades For The Cleveland Browns | Which Players Have Been The Biggest Surprises? Nov 03, 2022
    Show notes

With the NFL trade deadline behind him, Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry met with media members on Wednesday to discuss the current state of the 3-5 Browns.

Atop the list of newsworthy items: No matter how well Jacoby Brissett has performed to this point, Deshaun Watson will take over as starting quarterback when his suspension ends in December. Berry confirmed Cleveland's intentions Wednesday, the first time the organization has committed to playing Watson when he's eligible to return on Dec. 4 for a Week 13 game against the Texans.

Per the conditions of his 11-game suspension for violating the league's personal-conduct policy, Watson has been back at the team facility during the week since Oct. 10, with limitations. He still is not allowed to attend Browns games, nor is he able to join the team in practice.

"It's been great to have him back in the building," Berry said of Watson. "He's been focused on working on himself, he's stayed in great shape, he's been a part of the meetings. He's done everything and more that's been asked of him. We'll be excited to have him when he can continue to ramp up football activities and get back on the practice field."

Watson is permitted to return to the practice field on Nov. 14 with the plan of Watson being game ready when the Browns travel to Houston in Week 13. Until then, the Browns will continue with the status quo of Brissett operating as the team's starter.

Brissett has done an admirable job to this point, completing 63.9 percent of his passes for 1,862 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Brissett has kept the Browns competitive in nearly every game, and in Monday night's win over the Bengals, he connected with Amari Cooper on three key completions that helped the Browns preserve their double-digit advantage.

"Jacoby has been everything that we had hoped when we signed him," Berry said. "He has given us an opportunity and more to win the game with every start, save the exception of maybe one. We knew that he was a special guy in the locker room particularly from his time in Indianapolis. ... He's been an excellent addition to our organization and we couldn't be happier with what he's provided the team so far."

Brissett's performance has met, if not exceeded Cleveland's expectations. Still, the Browns will be ready to turn to their long-term starter when Watson is eligible to return. Another part of Cleveland's offense, Kareem Hunt, was once an important figure and has since drifted into the background. His 15-touch, 72-yard showing on Monday night helped the Browns defeat the Bengals, but it seemed as if it was a farewell performance before the trade deadline passed.

Hunt spoke on the matter after the game, telling reporters on Monday he was "down for whatever" regarding his chances of being dealt elsewhere. The deadline passed without a trade involving Hunt, though, and he'll spend the rest of the 2022 season with his hometown Browns.

The club remains happy to have him, even if he isn't long for Cleveland.

"We feel really good about the team that we have, feel really good about the guys in the locker room," Berry said. "To Kareem specifically, I would actually give Kareem a lot of credit because I think that for an individual going through what he went through the past couple of months, realizing that his status was in some level of flux, all Kareem did since August was worked hard and really put the team first. I think that type of mindset, that type of attitude is exactly what allows you to battle through difficult challenges, difficult circumstances and ultimately what you need to win games as you go from week to week in the second half of the year."

Hunt said Monday night that he had not spoken with the front office about his status, and he didn't receive any news on Tuesday. Ultimately, though, Hunt said he'll continue to work no matter the situation, which Berry said Wednesday the Browns very much appreciate.

The Cleveland Browns cap off a Halloween Party at First Energy with a Monday Night win Nov 01, 2022
    Show notes

The scariest part of Halloween in 2022 was the Cleveland Browns defense on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Myles Garrett and company sacked Joe Burrow nearly a half dozen times, forcing the All-Pro QB to turn the ball over multiple times in an AFC Division showdown.

This was by far the Browns best performance of the year, dominating both sides of the line of scrimmage in the win.

Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Donovan Peoples-Jones & Amari Cooper all did their parts as Jacoby Brissett methodically moved the ball up and down the field against the Bengals.

With the win, the Browns move to 3-5 on the season heading into the bye week.

Browns vs. Bengals Predictions | Why a Win Against Bengals Could Save The Browns Season Oct 31, 2022
    Show notes

The Cleveland Browns will try to continue their dominance of their in-state rivals when they host the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. The Browns (2-5) have lost four straight games, but they have won four in a row and seven of the past eight in this AFC North rivalry. The Bengals (4-3) have won four of their past five, with their only setback during that span a 19-17 loss to the Ravens in Week 5. The Browns (2-5) lost 23-20 to the Ravens in Week 7, while Joe Burrow torched the Falcons for 481 passing yards in a 35-17 Bengals victory last Sunday. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 51-46 but has not won in Cleveland since 2017. Bengals star receiver Ja'Marr Chase is out with a hip injury.

Kickoff in Cleveland is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists Cincinnati as the 3-point favorite in the latest Browns vs. Bengals odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 45. Kickoff in Cleveland is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists Cincinnati as the 3-point favorite in the latest Browns vs. Bengals odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 45. Cincinnati is reeling from the news that star receiver Ja'Marr Chase could miss six weeks with a hip injury, but Burrow still has talent at his disposal. Tyler Boyd led the team with 166 receiving yards last week and running back Joe Mixon has 587 total yards. Mixon could see more work Monday against a Cleveland defense that ranks 24th against the run, or the Bengals could aim to strike quickly to neutralize Cleveland's run game. The Browns allow almost 27 points per game (29th in NFL). Burrow is 24-13 ATS in his career, and Cincinnati is 8-1 ATS in its past nine road games.

The Bengals are 13-2 against the spread in their past 15 overall. Their defense allows fewer than 19 points per game, seventh in the league, and is ninth against the pass, yielding 202 yards per contest. The Browns threw for fewer than 100 yards against Baltimore and average 214 passing yards (22nd), so Cincinnati can stack up against the run. Cleveland also has given the ball away 10 times. Burrow has thrown five interceptions, but four came in the season-opener. Cincinnati is 10-1 ATS in its past 11 conference games, while the Browns are on a 4-13 ATS slide in AFC North matchups.

Cleveland won the last meeting 21-16, a Week 18 matchup that saw the Bengals resting their starters for the playoffs and the Browns playing out the string. The Browns dominated the matchup in Cincinnati in Week 9, with running back Nick Chubb going off for 137 yards on 14 carries. The fifth-year back out of Georgia leads the NFL in both rushing yards (470 yards) and rushing TDs (eight) and averages 5.9 yards per carry. He faces a defense that ranks 18th in the NFL against the run (119 yards per game), while Cleveland averages 163 per game (fourth).

The underdog is 5-0 against the spread in the past five matchups and Burrow is 0-3 straight-up against the Browns in his career. He was sacked five times and threw two interceptions in his Week 9 start and has been sacked 24 times in the first seven games. Myles Garrett is banged up but expected to play, and he has three sacks over the past two games. Underdogs have been covering at a 58-percent clip in the NFL this season, going 61-44-2 through the first seven weeks.

Browns vs. Bengals Preview | Can The Browns Defense Slow Down Burrow? Oct 27, 2022
    Show notes

On the heels of a four-game losing streak, the Cleveland Browns will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Halloween as the two teams face off on Monday Night Football. It’s the first meeting of the season for the two Ohio-based franchises, and Cleveland has been in control of this rivalry for the past couple of years. Cincinnati hasn’t been shy about saying this game means more to them because of that, which should make it an interesting showdown. Here, we look ahead to the rivalry game and make five bold predictions for Week 8.

The Cincinnati Bengals got swept by the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and will be out for revenge in Week 8. Can they defeat a tough Browns side? The AFC North is heating up with the Bengals and Ravens breaking away from the pack in Week 7. Cincy currently sits in second place but holds the same 4-3 record as Baltimore. After a resounding victory over the Falcons, the Bengals appear primed to return to their 2021 form and will look to string together important wins ahead of their BYE week. According to FanDuel, the Bengals are 3-point favorites with a moneyline of -166 while the Browns' moneyline sits at +140. The over/under is set at 47 points. Even with the Browns being at home, the Bengals are still favored, which is to be expected after this past week's results.

All hail Joe Burrow. The star Bengals quarterback went off in Week 7 for 501 total yards and four touchdowns; since his pitiful Week 1 performance, Burrow has thrown 13 touchdowns and just one interception. We expect Burrow to continue his dominant streak against the Browns, who have a middling pass defense and will face a difficult challenge in containing Cincy's elite wideouts. Cleveland running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt have wreaked havoc on opponents so far this season, yet the Bengals boast one of the best run defenses in the league and can feasibly contain the duo. As long as Burrow doesn't suddenly regress to his Week 1 form, we're predicting a close game in which the Bengals nonetheless come out on top. Bengals win, 24-17.

3 Reason Why Kevin Stefanski Will Be The Browns Head Coach In 2023 Oct 26, 2022
    Show notes

5 head coaches on the hot seat ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline. The 2022 NFL season is a season of “parity.” Translation: most NFL teams stink this season. There are only six out of 16 AFC teams over .500 heading into Week 7 and just four out of 16 in the NFC. With all these lackluster records a third of the way through the season, it’s time to take a look at the NFL coach hot seat. With the trade deadline looming on November 1, several NFL coaches need to be worried about their jobs. Here are the five head coaches on the hottest NFL hot seat as that crucial deadline nears.

    #5 Ron Rivera

The 2022 NFL season is a season of “parity.” Translation: most NFL teams stink this season. There are only six out of 16 AFC teams over .500 heading into Week 7 and just four out of 16 in the NFC. With all these lackluster records a third of the way through the season, it’s time to take a look at the NFL coach hot seat. With the trade deadline looming on November 1, several NFL coaches need to be worried about their jobs. Here are the five head coaches on the hottest NFL hot seat as that crucial deadline nears.

    #4 Lovie Smith

When the Houston Texans hired Lovie Smith this offseason, it always felt like a temporary measure. The club was reportedly high on the inexperienced former NFL quarterback Josh McCown but turned to Smith after Brian Flores sued the NFL (h/t NBC Sports).

The Texans are 1-3-1 after failing to build on an optimistic tie vs. the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. And, owner Cal McNair just fired Executive Vice President of Football operations Jack Easterby.

    #3 Nathaniel Hackett

The Denver Broncos have to be the most surprisingly disappointing team in the NFL in 2022. The league’s national TV schedule confirms this. With new QB Russell Wilson and talent all around the field, the league, and its TV partners put the Broncos on in primetime in four of the first six weeks of the season.

As any NFL fan who watches games knows all too well, Nathaniel Hackett and the Broncos have gone 1-3 in those games, scoring just 52 points in those televised contests. The offense with Wilson is a complete mess, and Hackett, the former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator, seems to have no answers as to how they can fix it.

    #2 Kliff Kingsbury

The best thing you can say about Kliff Kingsbury and the Arizona Cardinals 2022 season is that at least they’re not following the same old pattern. In the past two seasons, the team has gotten off to fast starts before collapsing down the stretch.

This season, Kyler Murray and company definitely haven’t started fast.

The Cardinals have fallen behind in every game they’ve played this season and have scored just three first-quarter points in six games. Murray has led his team on some astonishing comebacks, but obviously, something isn’t working out in the desert.

    #1 Kevin Stefanski

The goal for the Cleveland Browns this year was simply to keep the team’s playoff chances alive until Week 13 when Deshaun Watson comes back from his suspension to face his old team, the Houston Texans.

At 2-4 after six weeks, those playoff chances are likely gone. With the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming up, chances are the team will be 4-7 at best when Watson returns, and the playoff hopes will be over.

Stefanski went 11-5 in his first season with the Browns but has been 10-13 since. With the Watson trade and contract, owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam have gone all-in on building a winner, no matter the (financial or moral) cost.

The team’s first-time NFL head coach simply isn’t getting it done. And that makes Kevin Stefanski a candidate for the NFL hot seat, and likely the most realistic candidate to lose his job by the trade deadline.

Should The Cleveland Browns Trade Kareem Hunt? Oct 25, 2022
    Show notes

It seems like the Cleveland Browns season has already come down to this, we are focusing on NFL trade rumors but not on this team acquiring players. While the QB play around the league is down and the team opened with what seemed to be an easy schedule, the Browns sit at 2-5 and talk about trading one of their running backs is reasonable.

With the NFL trade deadline around the corner, the Christian McCaffrey trade may have helped Cleveland but the New York Jets trading for James Robinson took a suitor off the table. The biggest name floating around is RB Kareem Hunt. Hunt was one of the best backs in the NFL during his time in Kansas City and has been an important part of the Browns successful run game during his time with his hometown team. Sadly, it looks like that relationship will end no later than the end of this season.

Can GM Andrew Berry find value in a trade for Hunt or should he hold on to him and hope for better value in a compensatory pick? According to an anonymous general manager, Hunt should have value: “Hunt would be the best back on the market, and it’s not even close,” said one GM who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to discuss other teams’ rosters. Whether that means Hunt gets traded or not in the next six days will depend on the return and the impact Berry thinks dealing him would have on the team. With a lot of draft assets traded away to acquire QB Deshaun Watson, getting even a fourth-round pick or a young defensive player would probably be worth it to the team.

Would you trade Hunt? If so, what do you think is a reasonable return for him?

Did Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski Lost The Locker Room? Oct 24, 2022
    Show notes

Browns HC Stefanski: Yelling in Locker Room After Loss to Ravens Is 'Normal Football'

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski downplayed the significance of his team's reaction to a 23-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. According to multiple reports, there was audible yelling coming from Cleveland's locker room. Stefanski chalked it up as "normal football."Browns star Myles Garrett added it reflected how badly the players wanted to win the game:

The Browns have now dropped four in a row and sit last in the AFC North at 2-5. Exacerbating the team's frustration, four of its five losses have come by three points or fewer. The circumstances of Sunday's defeat left plenty of fans asking questions of the officiating crew. Cade York had an opportunity to tie the game on a 55-yard field goal with 2:09 left. However, a false start penalty moved the offense back five yards, and York's 60-yard attempt was blocked. What led to the flag wasn't clear to the naked eye. That sums up Cleveland's luck at the moment. The Browns outgained Baltimore 336-254 and averaged two more yards per play. The defense sacked Lamar Jackson three times and held him to 120 passing yards on 16 attempts. Still, it wasn't enough for Stefanski's squad to come out on the winning end.

Attempting to make anything of the response inside the Browns' locker room feels like an exercise in confirmation bias. If you remain bullish on Cleveland, then it's an example of how much the players care and how focused they'll be heading into Week 8. If you're less enthusiastic about the team, it shows how the franchise is spiraling further toward dysfunction. Regardless of where you sit on that spectrum, the hard truth is that losing to the Cincinnati Bengals to slip to 2-6 heading into their Week 9 bye would be a significant blow to the Browns' playoff hopes.

Cleveland Browns get bounced again in Baltimore Oct 24, 2022
    Show notes

Lamar Jackson promised to put on a show on Sunday, and while the Browns pushed the Ravens to the very end, he and the Ravens held on for a 23-20 victory in a big AFC North showdown. Cleveland’s Cade York lined up for a potential game-tying 60-yard field goal attempt with 2:01 left, and it was deflected wide and left by Malik Harrison.

The Browns had one last-ditch chance at a miracle finish, but Donovan Peoples-Jones was forced to fumble after a 19-yard catch as time expired. The Ravens recovered, but without any timeouts, the Browns wouldn’t have had time to line up for another play anyway. Jackson orchestrated a vintage Jackson drive at the end of the first half to give the Ravens their first lead of the game, 13-10, with 1:57 left in the half.

Facing a third and 11 from the Browns’ 19, Jackson slipped away from Myles Garrett and found receiver Rashod Bateman wide open for a 26-yard pass down the right side. Ronnie Harrison missed the tackle and Bateman rumbled for another 10 yards. Jackson ran for 10 yards on a third and 3, weaving past John Johnson III in the backfield. He found tight end Isaiah Likely over the middle for 16 yards to the 17 and then ran it again himself for 10 to the 7. Gus Edwards took it from there, finding a gaping hole on the left side for the 7-yard TD run.

Brissett took over at his 12 after a holding call on the kickoff return, and it looked good when Marcus Peters was flagged 15 yards for pass interference to the Ravens’ 40. Linebacker Justin Houston lit it up from there, sacking Brissett on back-to-back plays, and stripping him on the second. They punted two plays later from near midfield, and the Ravens ran one more play from their 8 before jogging to the locker room. The Browns were fortunate to be down only 13-10 at the half. Early in the second quarter, receiver Devin Duvernay ripped off a 46-yard punt return to the Browns’ 21, with D’Ernest Johnson losing contain. But the Ravens moved only 5 yards to the 16 before Owusu-Koramoah blitzed and defended the pass to Kenyan Drake. Baltimore settled for a 34-yard Tucker field goal that made it 10-6 with 10:05 left in the half.

Browns vs. Ravens Predictions | Can The Browns Defense Slow Down Lamar Jackson? Oct 21, 2022
    Show notes

Garrett Bush of The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of The Locked on Browns Podcast give their Browns vs. Ravens Predictions. They also ask how Can The Browns Defense Slow Down Lamar Jackson? The Cleveland Browns are aiming to arrest a three-game slide as they travel to Maryland and face the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Week 7. The Browns have lost their last three contests and hope to win against their division rival to move up in the AFC North. Here are our Browns Week 7 predictions as they take on the Ravens.

The Browns’ disappointing season reached a new low last week when they were defeated 38-15 by the New England Patriots headed by rookie backup QB Bailey Zappe. Given how bad the Browns’ defense has been this season, it’s difficult to imagine them doing any better here against Lamar Jackson. Remember that even if newly acquired Deion Jones makes his debut, Cleveland has allowed an average of 399 total yards (fifth-worst) and 30.3 points (third-worst) over the previous three games.

On the other side of the field, the Ravens have occasionally looked impressive this season. However, they have yet to win back-to-back games. They were defeated in Week 6 by the New York Giants in a game where Baltimore produced 406 total yards to their opponent’s 238. With all these in mind, here are our four bold predictions for the Browns in their Week 7 game against the Ravens.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has been outstanding this season. So far, he leads the Ravens in both passing and running yards. Jackson currently has 1,277 yards throwing, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also has a completion rate of 62 percent. His best game was in Week 2 when he threw for 318 yards and had a 72 percent completion rate.

In this game, Jackson will face a Browns pass defense that isn’t great by any stretch. In fact, they have allowed 240 air yards a game this season. Even with guys like Denzel Ward and Grant Delpit, this secondary has just struggled big time. As such, Jackson has the potential to have a spectacular performance in this game. We expect him to pepper this Browns secondary non-stop and go upwards of 250+ passing yards. Browns DE Myles Garrett has an injured shoulder, but he still intends to play this week after exiting the game early last Sunday. Of course, his presence will be crucial for the Browns, who need to find any way to stifle Jackson. Garrett is obviously among the best pass rushers in the game, and he is coming off a game where he sacked Zappe twice. Despite his hurting shoulder, he should play here and still be a scary presence on defense. We have him meeting and greeting Jackson at least once in this game.

Browns WR Amari Cooper has played in all six Browns games so far. He currently averages double-digit targets to go along with a touchdown in four of those contests. Cooper has a 28 percent target share and a 37 percent air yard share. That’s a lot of weekly volume, and he’s a favorite red-zone and end-zone target for Jacoby Brissett. Browns RB Nick Chubb is the driving force behind the Browns’ offense. To illustrate, he has rushed for 649 yards and seven touchdowns on 110 attempts. He had been fairly consistent on the year, though he had his worst outing last week. He finished with only 56 yards and zero touchdowns against a determined Patriots ground defense.

That won’t change in Week 7, where the Browns need as much offense as they can get. It has been a few weeks since he has reached the 100-yard threshold, but we can imagine him doing that here against the Ravens. Take note that the Ravens have given up the second-most yards to wide receivers so far this season. That should have Cooper salivating. We also have him recording his fifth touchdown of the season.
