Browns Vs. Texans Preview | Deshaun Watson Returns To Houston In His First Game After Suspension Dec 01, 2022
    Show notes

Deshaun Watson spoke for the first time since returning from his 11-game suspension on Thursday. However, the Browns quarterback kept all of his responses focused on the field and not on the last three months. “First off, I just want to say I am excited to be back," Watson said in his first public comments since Aug. 18. "I am excited to be back around my teammates. I also want to thank the Browns organization, the ownership, my teammates in that locker room and all of the coaching staff for all of the support that they had for me, especially my time away. … I also want to thank all of the Cleveland fans and the City of Cleveland for embracing me but also helping me adapt to the community. It has been awesome and it has been great being out, going to dinners and to social places being able to hang out with some of the fans and interact with them. "I also just want to thank everyone that has been sending out some positive energy towards my way. I understand you guys have a lot of questions, but with my legal team and my clinical team, there is only football questions that I can really address at this time."

The personal conduct policy suspension stemmed from allegations through the legal system by more than two dozen women of sexual assault and sexual misconduct during massage appointments. A total of 26 lawsuits — 23 of which have been settled — were filed against Watson, all of them involving incidents that occurred in 2020 and early 2021 while he was still the quarterback of the Houston Texans. One lawsuit was dropped shortly after being filed in March 2021. Watson last talked to the media on the same day he and the NFL reached a settlement on his suspension length. Part of that agreement included going through a clinical evaluation, and then to follow any advised treatment. Watson would not answer the question when he was asked what he learned about himself through the treatment process. He also dodged a question about his message to those who don't believe he should be the face of a franchise in light of the allegations against him.

Watson was originally handed a six-game suspension on Aug. 1 by disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson. That suspension would've made his return to the field the Browns' Oct. 23 trip to Baltimore. The NFL appealed that suspension to commissioner Roger Goodell, who appointed former New Jersey attorney general Peter C. Harvey to hear the appeal. Before Harvey issued a ruling, though, the two sides came to a settlement of 11 games. The fact the settlement made Watson's return to Houston also his return to the field has been something that many have found odd. He reiterated what he had said at the time of the settlement, which is that he left the process in the hands of his advisers and didn't have a specific date or opponent in mind for his comeback.

Now, the offense that Brissett led to those heights is handed over to a player who, when he last played nearly two years ago, was considered among the game's best quarterbacks. However, it'll be exactly 700 days since the last time Watson played a regular-season game, meaning there's been plenty of time for rust to accumulate. The only game action of any kind Watson has had since Jan. 3, 2021, was in the Browns' preseason opener at Jacksonville on Aug. 12. He played three series that night, completing 1 of 5 passes for 7 yards. Watson has been practicing with the Browns since Nov. 16. That's not the same, though, as playing in games, which is why he knows questions about rust are inevitable.

Highest Rated Cleveland Browns Players Against The Bengals On MNF! Nov 30, 2022

NFL Week 8 Game Recap: Cleveland Browns 32, Cincinnati Bengals 13

Coming off four straight losses, the Cleveland Browns were able to finally pick up a victory, dominating the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals in a 32-13 blowout victory at FirstEnergy Stadium Monday night. The win moved the Browns 3-5 on the season while the Bengals fell to 4-3, as both teams trail the 5-3 Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. Offensive spotlight: Browns QB Jacoby Brissett put together a winning performance Monday night, finishing 17-of-22 for 278 passing yards and a touchdown. Brissett's 12.6 yards per attempt and 94.7% adjusted completion rate on first review were both impressive marks.

Browns RB Nick Chubb and WR Amari Cooper also played a huge part in the team's victory. Chubb continued to show why he's probably the best pure runner in the NFL, finishing with 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns from 23 carries. The Georgia product also picked up five first downs and forced four missed tackles. Cooper totaled five receptions from seven targets for 131 receiving yards and a touchdown en route to a game-high (min. five receiving snaps) 5.24 yards per route run on first review.

Turn on any Browns game and edge defender Myles Garrett is probably the best player on the field — and that proved to be true against Monday night. The Texas A&M dominated as a pass-rushing, posting eight pressures, two sacks and a 32.3% pass-rush win rate. If it weren't for Dallas Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons and San Francisco 49ers edge defender Nick Bosa, Garrett would be the runaway favorite for the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year award. Bengals rookie left guard Cordell Volson‘s pass-blocking was a bright spot during an otherwise dreadful evening for the Bengals offense, as the fourth-round pick allowed just two pressures across 40 pass-blocking snaps on first review.

The Browns offensive line stifled the Bengals' pass-rush all evening, allowing just two pressures across 26 snaps in pass protection on first review. Cincinnati's interior trio —left guard Joel Bitonio, center Ethan Pocic and right guard Hjalte Froholdt — were notably impressive in pass protection, allowing zero total pressures combined.

Led by Myles Garrett (1.5 sacks) and Sione Takitaki (13 tackles, one sack), the Browns defense shouldered the load early while their offense warmed up. The unit didn't let up once Cleveland's offense got going, as the Browns limited Cincinnati to just one trip inside the red zone while holding Burrow and Co. to just 15 first downs and 4 of 10 on third down.

The Browns offensive line, despite suffering an in-game injury to Jack Conklin, dominated the Bengals defensive front. The unit -- which received a solid effort from Conklin's replacement, second-year man James Hudson -- paved the way for Chubb, Hunt and the rest of the Browns to run for 172 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries. The line also gave Brissett time to complete several clutch passes that extended scoring drives.

The Browns head into their Week 9 bye. Cleveland's players may spend some of their bye week packing their suitcases, as four of the Browns' first five games after their bye will be on the road. The road trip starts with games against AFC East foes Miami and Buffalo before wrapping up with these Bengals in Week 14.

Cincinnati will host Carolina on a short week before going on its bye week. Like Cleveland, the Bengals will have consecutive road games following their bye week. They'll face the Steelers on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 11 before heading to Nashville for a rematch of last year's divisional round thriller.

3 Things To Watch For In Deshaun Watson's First Game as a Cleveland Brown Nov 29, 2022
    Show notes

Deshaun Watson will return to the Cleveland Browns lineup on Sunday after serving an 11-game suspension, and head coach Kevin Stefanski is confident that the embattled quarterback "will be ready to roll" against his former team. Stefanski fielded a number of questions about Watson’s ability to perform and connect with the team after the NFL reinstated him on Monday following a lengthy suspension over allegations of sexual misconduct made by more than two dozen women.

"As you know, we had Deshaun in the building for three weeks but not out on the field with us and then the last couple of weeks out on the field. Next step is obviously being out there taking all of the first team reps," Stefanski said. "He has been doing a nice job getting the defense ready with the scout team reps that he has gotten. I think he has done a nice job with his time away physically, staying sharp and mentally staying sharp so I think he will be ready to roll."

Watson will make his debut for the Browns against the Houston Texans on Sunday after signing a massive five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract in March. He last played on Jan. 3, 2020, but despite his significant time away, Stefanski was adamant that Watson would be ready to go. "I have confidence in Deshaun based on his preparation. Really, the focus is on him just doing his job. We are still going to be all about the team effort and still offense, defense and special teams. This is never ever going to be about one person. As it relates to Deshaun, I believe in his preparation. I believe that he has worked really hard on a bunch of things to be ready to go." "I certainly get it but can’t really control that," Stefanski said of the concern about Watson’s time away from the field.

"For me, for Deshaun and for all of our players, just have to keep the focus on doing our job. Think about there are some guys who don’t play preseason football, and they get in there Week 1 and need to get tackled the first time before they are ready to go. I think some of those things may be true, but I don’t want to put anything on Deshaun that I think is unfair for me to say at this point. We don’t know." Watson was accused of being sexually inappropriate with the women during massage therapy sessions while playing in Houston. He was not indicted on criminal charges by two grand juries and reached financial settlements in 23 of 24 civil lawsuits.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Recap | Which Browns Player Had A Off The Chart PFF Grade? Nov 28, 2022
    Show notes

In this episode Garrett Bush of The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, Jeff Lloyd of The Locked On Browns Podcast, and John Kosko of PFF take a look at the Browns vs Buccaneers game and find out which Browns player had an off the chart PFF grade. Did Myles Garrett or Amari Cooper have a great game? Find out in this episode of the Locked On Browns Podcast!

Jacoby Brissett wasn't seeking sympathy and he didn't want any ceremonial sendoff. After all, he's not leaving. The Browns gave him one anyway. Nick Chubb scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds left in overtime and Cleveland rallied Sunday to stun Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-17 in Brissett's final start before Deshaun Watson returns from his 11-game suspension.

Afterward, the Browns gave Brissett a game ball before the popular 29-year-old channeled Brady, his former teammate in New England. “I mean this in no disrespect," Brissett said when asked how he felt after the comeback win. "But in the words of Tom Brady, that was (expletive) awesome. That was (expletive) awesome.” Chubb powered through a pile of bodies at the goal line as the Browns (4-7) sent Brissett off with a win as they transition to Watson, who was banned by the NFL for sexual misconduct allegations. He'll start next week in Houston, which traded him to Cleveland in March. So this was a special one for Brissett, who has been invaluable to the Browns during another turbulent season. “I’m obviously grateful for this opportunity and grateful for those men in that room,” said Brissett, who also threw a key block on receiver Anthony Schwartz's 31-yard TD run. “This was a great game to kind of end it on, but we have to stack them.”

Chubb's short TD was set up when Brissett c onnected on a 45-yard pass to wide receiver Amari Cooper, who found himself wide open when Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis III slipped and fell near midfield. The Browns forced OT on tight end David Njoku’s remarkable, one-handed TD catch with 32 seconds left in regulation. Njoku extended his left arm to haul in Brissett's 12-yard scoring strike in the back of the end zone. “I threw it, and I thought I threw it too high and I was about to start crying,” Brissett said. “I saw him pull it down, and I was like, ‘I could have ran up and kissed him.’ Clearly I didn’t.” Brady threw two touchdown passes, but couldn't get anything going in the 10-minute OT as the Bucs (5-6) were unable to keep their momentum going following a bye.

“Seventeen points isn’t going to do it,” Brady said. "It’s been the same thing all year. We’re not scoring enough points. Every play is an individual win or loss, and we’re losing too many. There were too many plays where we were not on the right page, and we’ve got to correct that.” Led by All-Pro end Myles Garrett, who had 1 1/2 sacks, the Browns held Tampa Bay without a point on its final seven possessions.

Garrett played the final minutes of regulation and OT in extreme pain after aggravating a shoulder injury sustained in a car crash. “It hurt really bad," said Garrett, who intends to put off surgery until after the season. “I thought I had broken something.” Brady completed 29 of 43 passes for 246 yards and was sacked three times.

Brissett went 23 of 37 for 210 yards with one TD and an interception. Chubb finished with 116 yards on 26 carries.

Brady opened the second half by completing his first six passes, including a 28-yarder to Mike Evans, who became the first Tampa Bay player to reach 10,000 yards receiving.

The Buccaneers took a 17-10 lead when Brady connected with rookie Ko Kieft on a 5-yard scoring pass. It was the 638th TD pass for Brady, and No. 1 for Kieft, who is listed as the team's fourth-string tight end.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Preview | Why There Is Optimism In Cleveland With Watson's Return Looming Nov 27, 2022
    Show notes

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to extend their two-game winning streak when they face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon. Tampa Bay was in a rut last month, but it has bounced back with wins over the Rams and Seahawks. Cleveland has lost six of its last seven games, falling to Buffalo in a 31-23 final last week.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET. Tampa Bay is favored by 3.5 points in the latest Browns vs. Buccaneers odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over/under is set at 42. Before entering any Buccaneers vs. Browns picks, you'll want to see the NFL predictions from the model at SportsLine.

Cleveland will be happy to return home after a tough two-game road trip against the Dolphins and Bills. The Browns picked up a 32-13 win against Cincinnati in their last home game, and they also beat Pittsburgh at home earlier this season. Tampa Bay has not been on the road since losing to Pittsburgh and Carolina last month.

Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been solid of late, approaching career highs with 324 passing yards and three touchdowns last week. He has now thrown for five touchdowns and rushed for another while not throwing an interception in his last three games. Tampa Bay has been a team to avoid this year, covering the spread just once in its last eight games.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons for well over a year. He remains suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy but is set to play later this season for Cleveland. Here we answer the question as to when will Deshaun Watson return and be back on the field for the Browns. We will also go over how long his suspension is and cover the latest news on him and the Browns.

One of the major offseason storylines in the NFL centered around how long the suspension for Deshaun Watson would last. The NFL and the NFLPA reached a settlement back on August 18 for Watson to serve an 11-game suspension without pay. As for when will Deshaun Watson return and be back on the football field for the Browns, he is set to make his debut for the franchise on December 4. The Week 13 game will take place in Houston, the place Watson called home for five years, as the Browns will square off against the Texans. Here is the timetable for Watson’s return to the field with the stretch of games he is poised to play in, barring injury.

Week 13: Sunday, December 4 Browns vs. Texans

Week 14: Sunday, December 11 Browns vs. Bengals

Week 15: Sunday, December 18 Ravens vs. Browns

Week 16: Saturday, December 24 Saints vs. Browns

Week 17: Sunday, January 1 Browns vs. Commanders

Week 18: Sunday, January 8 Browns vs. Steelers

The Browns’ bye week comes in Week 9 of this season and is sandwiched between games against the Bengals and at the Dolphins. Jacoby Brissett has been the Browns’ starter under center in Watson’s absence. Watson returned to the Browns practice facilities on October 10 and can begin participating in team practices, fully, on November 14. Cleveland’s coaching staff worked in conjunction with Watson’s throwing coach, Quincy Avery, in late August and early September to create “an individualized plan, and throwing scripts, to keep Watson sharp while he’s away from the team,” according to SI.com’s Albert Breer. “Watson and Avery will conduct sessions to include field drills, film and board work four days per week,” Breer wrote on September 5.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Preview | Browns Game Plan For Beating Tom Brady and The Bucs Nov 25, 2022
    Show notes

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers return from their bye week with clear minds and a very clear vision of what lies ahead. It's a seven-week sprint to the finish line, with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance from game to game, and it starts with a trip to the shores of Lake Erie.

The Buccaneers begin this stretch run with a 5-5 record and a half-game lead on the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South, which demonstrates the tenuous nature of the team's playoff grip and how easily it can change from week to week. They will be facing a 3-7 Cleveland Browns team that is more dangerous than its record suggests, which the Cincinnati Bengals discovered just a few weeks ago in a 32-13 drubbing. The Browns run the ball well and they run it often, and their defense is spearheaded by Myles Garrett, undeniably one of the most dangerous edge rushers in the NFL.

Cleveland hasn't played at home since that big win over their division rivals, which was followed by a bye week and road losses to the Dolphins and Bills. That last contest was an unusual one, as a monstrous snowstorm forced the game to be moved from Buffalo to Cleveland. After all of the Browns are surely eager to be back home at FirstEnergy Stadium, where they also beat Pittsburgh earlier in the season.

The Buccaneers are hoping to duplicate the pattern that led to their Super Bowl LV victory two seasons ago. That 2020 squad came out of its bye week with five losses and never suffered another defeat, running off eight straight to capture the Lombardi Trophy. The eventual champs finally clicked on offense after their Week 13 bye and started creating turnovers in bunches on defense. The 2022 team isn't necessarily going to run the table again – that would be an extremely bold prediction – but the same post-bye improvements as the 2020 team showed on offense and defense would certainly increase the possibility of the Bucs holding off the Falcons and any other contender for the NFC South title.

Another part of the winning puzzle for the 2020 Bucs was good health, a common defining factor of championship teams and one that utterly disappeared in the team's attempt at a title defense in 2021. This year's Buccaneers have already endured a significant number of injuries to key players – and top edge rusher Shaq Barrett has been lost for the year – but might actually be coming out of the bye as healthy as they have been all season.

On defense, the return of Akiem Hicks up front has made a noticeable impact on the Buccaneers' run defense – a key issue this week as it was in Munich against Seattle – and safety Antoine Winfield, one of the team's best playmakers at any level, is back from a concussion. On offense wide receivers Chris Godwin and Julio Jones are rounding into form after working through injuries, red zone threat Cam Brate is back in the mix and the team might also be getting Giovani Bernard back from a long absence in Week 12. Wide receiver Russell Gage and guard Luke Goedeke came out of the bye and returned to practice after missing several games and could also be adding reinforcements this week. There is the new concern of Leonard Fournette's hip pointer from the Seattle game, but rookie running back Rachaad White is emerging as a back who can handle the load as well.

The Buccaneers might also be in the best place they've been all season mentally. Rousing wins over the Rams and Seahawks not only gave the team a sense of momentum heading into the bye, but the extra time to study and reflect on those games led to an increased sense of confidence. The Bucs come out of the break believing they've finally pieced together a winning formula, and they believe they can duplicate it. And they have a great sense of urgency to prove that is true.

Just How Good Has Jacoby Brissett Been? You Might Be Surprised! Nov 22, 2022
    Show notes

In this video Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of the Locked On Browns Podcast discuss the current state of the Cleveland Browns and their starting quarterback, Jacoby Brissett. You might be surprised to know just how good Jacoby Brissett has been since joining the Browns in December. Tune in to find out why I think he's been so successful and whether or not the Browns can keep this up. If you're a Browns fan, this is a must-watch video!

Jacoby Brissett has Taken Flawed Browns Team as Far as He's Capable. Cleveland Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett lit up the stat sheet with 324 yards passing and three touchdowns, but the team still fell short. It's an indictment of the defense and special teams, but it shows the limitations of a Brissett-led offense. Jacoby Brissett completed 68.2 percent of his passes, threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns and it wasn't enough to defeat the Buffalo Bills.. He did everything he could to help the Browns win this game and it wasn't enough to win, which is every bit an indictment of the current team in addition to illustrating what the Browns are still missing at the quarterback position.

Brissett has overperformed expectations and negated any further conversations about acquiring another veteran quarterback. He's been valuable in a leadership role and excelled enough that Deshaun Watson was an after thought for most of his suspension, which was critical on a number of fronts.

But baked into some of the success Brissett is having is the fact that defenses are allowing it by focusing all of their attention on stopping the bigger threat in running back Nick Chubb. Brissett threw for 324 yards and Chubb rushed for just 19 yards. Chubb chipped in 48 receiving yards, which was a pleasant surprise.

The Browns had seven offensive drives that produced a combined three points. They were bookended by the first drive of the game which scored a touchdown, a Browns staple, and the last two drives that resulted in touchdowns when the Browns attempted to engineer a comeback. Brissett isn't the major reason the Browns didn't capitalize on those seven drives. He would've had another touchdown pass had either tight end Harrison Bryant or Pharaoh Brown been able to come down with back to back passes that hit them in the hands.

The botched snap fumble had more to with Hjalte Froholdt playing at center in place of Ethan Pocic, who left the game with a knee injury. Brissett had nothing to do with the blocked field goal but he was involved in the drive that necessitated the attempt.

The problem is that they struggle with consistency. Too much needs to go right with Brissett in order for them to succeed. A holding penalty, false start or sack too often ends an offensive drive for the Browns. Brissett was sharp in this game, but teams count on the fact that he's going to miss a few shots like the one to Bryant where he had a chance to catch a touchdown in the back of the end zone but couldn't get the second foot down as a result of a high throw caused by pressure.

Brissett has done everything the Browns have asked. He is the quarterback that was in place as Amari Cooper proved to be the number one receiver the team has needed for years, saw David Njoku become a franchise tight end the Browns have desperately needed him to become and helped Donovan Peoples-Jones take the next step in his development, which may lead to a contract extension of his own. Brissett deserves credit for putting the offense in the position that Watson doesn't need to work miracles in order to succeed. If it's feasible Brissett can stay on as the backup for the Browns, that could be a move that is not only good karma for the Browns, but could a good will gesture that means something to the rest of the locker room. Nevertheless, Brissett is a backup for a reason.

Cleveland Browns vs. Buffalo Bills Recap | Which Browns Player Had The Lowest PFF Grade? Nov 21, 2022
    Show notes

In this instant recap, Garrett Bush, Jeff Lloyd and John Kosko go inside the Cleveland Browns vs. Buffalo Bills matchup and give their thoughts on the game and deliver the Highest and Lowest PFF Grades . The Browns started off strong, but eventually cooled off and lost the game 31-23. As always on the UCSS Postgame Show, we'll give our analysis and opinions on the game, as well as all the key details you need to know. Make sure to check out our full Cleveland Browns vs. Buffalo Bills recap to get all the information you need!

The Cleveland Browns started its game against the Buffalo Bills in style as Jacoby Brissett connected with Amari Cooper on a long touchdown pass on the opening drive. Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs & the rest of the Bills offense was non-existent for the majority of the first half, but Allen found the end zone for the first time in the final seconds of the half to give Buffalo momentum heading into the break.

The second half was all Buffalo, as the Bills shook off any snowstorm rust and fired on all cylinders down the stretch. Sean McDermott's squad needed a win after two consecutive losses entering this contest, and are now 7-3 on the year. With the loss, the Browns fall to 3-7 on the season with one game remaining before Deshaun Watson returns to action.

Different Week same story, Browns start well but fold to the Bills Nov 21, 2022
    Show notes

In this instant reaction, Garrett Bush and Mike McNuggets go inside the Cleveland Browns vs. Buffalo Bills matchup and give our thoughts on the game.
