    Show notes
Hey, I heard you missed us, we're back! I brought my pencil! Gimme something to write on, man. This week JFD decides to skip the grossness of Ghoul Summer and instead focuses on the charms of education on film as we celebrate School Summer instead!

Up first, we enroll at Hooter University and follow the antics of an all-female rock group who help a struggling sorority in a series of sporting competitions in order to save their house, all while trying to book gigs and launch their careers in Splitz from 1982.

Then, we jump right into the third installment in the wacky supernatural Chinese comedy series Happy Ghost to find a young female ghost trying to get reincarnated but also getting accidentally thwarted by a bumbling music teacher in Happy Ghost III from 1986.

And finally, two horror nerds must defend their high school from a plague of zombified members of the swim team, all while plugging the shit out of Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling for some reason, in 1990's Ghoul School.

All this plus stories from grade school, open sores, an update on Parker's fear of being seen pooping, Nerd News, this week's most notable blu-rays and so much more!

JFD528: The Swimmer, Le Magnifique, Smokey & The Bandit Aug 06, 2020
Show notes Slap on your swim trunks, grab your case of Coors, and get ready to fly this helicopter over some Mayan pyramids outside Acapulco! We're traveling all corners of the globe this week with a trio of old men who just can't stop partying, age appropriateness be damned!
Hey, kids! You like shirtless grandpa character actors, you say? How's your tolerance for endless martinis and small talk about high society? We've got the film for you! It's The Swimmer, from 1968! Directed by Frank "Last Summer" Perry! Watched by William "The Refrigerator" Perry! And starring Burt "Not a Perry" Lancaster!
Next up! It's everyone's favorite early-70's, French-produced, Mexican-set comedic spy caper / dramedy / romance film, Le Magnifique aka The Man from Acapulco, aka How to Destroy the Reputation of the Greatest Secret Agent, from 1973. One of several collaborations between director Philippe de Broca and star Jean-Paul Belmondo, this one's notable for also featuring Jacqueline Bisset and scenes set in a really bitchin' living room.
Finally! It's a third film: Smokey and the Bandit (1977), a trucker / TransAm'er classic that you probably remember from those afternoons your dad spent in front of the TV, tapping toes along to the tunes of Jerry "Snowman" Reed. It's got Burt Reynolds and the beers and the Paul Williams and the Jackie Gleason and the Sally Field and the hijinks too! You know it.
All this plus shirtless Burts, finding fun in a pandemic, curbside Ding Dongs in your hand, racial insensitivities, drive-in seating preferences, Sweetman's Safety Tips, Sean regrets having no regrets, rocking and rolling to the Public Broadcasting System, the hottest new secret YouTube channel starring Kevin Moose, a drop that makes ya say what the heck, Kevin's on doctor's orders, how much foot play is too much foot play?, a very long telephone cord makes an appearance, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more!

    Show notes
We're back with three films in which we get lost in New York, lost in television and lost in 1970s sexuality!
First up, TV's Allen Funt asks the audience, "What Do You Say to a Naked Lady?" This candid camera movie catches a variety of '70s people in awkward situations.
Next, Martin Scorsese takes us back to the streets of New York as an unfulfilled yuppie gets stranded in SoHo in an increasingly bizarre adventure in "After Hours."
Next, a kid has to save his little sister from a color wizard that lives in a haunted VHS tape in "Andy Colby's Incredible Adventure."
All this plus Nerd News, Junk Mails, the Fallen One, Sex show fact checking, Boris Karloff's sexy voice and so much more!

The world is ending but JFD is back, baby! And we're going to finally chart this month!

After lots of deliberating with our lawyers, Rusty, Donald Lloyd and our own souls, we've decided that 2020 doesn't need a Ghoul Summer. We're sure you'll agree that the world itself is Ghoul Summer enough. But Ghoul Summer 2021 will be fucking wild!

    Show notes
Yo, Junkies! JFD is back with another round of Dom DeLuise Patreon Donor picks this episode. There will me psycho killers, demon zombies and retro swinger orgies! What more could you ask for?
Up first, Lucio Fulci takes his unique brand of Italian giallo to the grimy streets of early-80's NYC in The New York Ripper from 1982 (picked by Eddie) about a serial slasher who targets young women and talks like a duck on the phone.
Then, a group of horror cliches go to visit a remote farmhouse where one of the kids' grandparents had been murdered, only to find the site is still haunted and overrun with zombies in 1990's Demon Wind (picked by Evan).
And finally, Anna Biller writes, directs, does set design, costumes and stars in Viva from 2007 (picked by Matt M), a wonderfully retro and kitschy tale about a woman bored with the trappings of early 70's homemaking and sets off on an adventure to awaken her sexuality.
All this plus a recap of the crap we've been watching in quarantine, chicken pot pie chat, Parker's thoughts on Cats, Nerd News, this week's most notable blu-rays and so much more!

JFD525: The Haunted House, Meshes of the Afternoon, Elvis Meets The Beatles Jul 16, 2020
Show notes In our continuing attempts to address the shortening attention spans of our young listener base (all hyped up on zima malt beverages and rock & roll musics), it's another Short Films week here at Junk Food Dinner! And these are three of the shortest and filmiest things we've ever reviewed! Donloyd & listen now to hear our unprofessional opinions on...
The Haunted House, a 1921 Buster Keaton short where the poor guy has to deal not only with bank robbers & ghosts, but also a very sticky jar of glue. It's a comedy classic! But can Parker stay awake for the 21 minute runtime? Watch along here!
Meshes of the Afternoon, a 1943 Maya Deren short where the poor lady has to deal not only with mysterious keys and shattering mirrors, but a severe case of sofa-bound narcolepsy. It's a surrealist sensation! But can Parker stay awake for the 14 minute runtime? Watch along here!
Elvis Meets the Beatles, a 2000 John Michael McCarthy short where the titular characters perform the titular action. It's a third film! Or was it all a dream? Watch along here!
All this plus a red dead redemption reappraisal, a sega bass fishing retrospective, Kevin's regrets on display, eurosexcrimes, a Kontroversy from Kentucky, the Church of Scientology does another murder, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more!

First, Frank Zappa and his merry men of invention go on tour and try to score with checks and get paid in the process in "200 Motels."
