Risk management with a solid plan! Does that mean crypto? Sep 03, 2021

Key Information:

Setting a solid foundation in your investments that bring in cash flow is risk management! That allows you to reach out to other investment classes. Real estate provides John with the security for other investments.

Divide your net worth up into basis points and figure out where you want those BPS to be invested but be ready to react quickly when the market gives you the opportunity.

Understand where information is coming at you from. If you are looking at Google for info, you are well behind the power curve!

“You are not smart. The market is just Bull.” Remember that!

It is easy to get caught up with the crowds. Make sure you are looking at your time horizon and know the type of investing you are doing.

Crypto is doing nothing but growing and the coming regulation is going to do nothing but help.

Pro tip: You have to have discipline, a process, and pre-defined buckets so you can’t get over your skis. Be a risk manager first and know when to cut it!

BONUS PRO TIP: Be ok buying blood. Get comfortable buying stocks in the red.

Transitioning To Multifamily Investing With Andrew Cushman Sep 02, 2021

Do not give up when you believe that you can do it. It may take a while but eventually persistence does give you what you started it for. It is about patience.

In this podcast, Jake and Gino interview Andrew Cushman. Andrew is a former chemical engineer who found his entrepreneurial calling in real estate. In 2007 Andrew left his corporate position to start a business in real estate investment, starting off flipping single family properties in Southern California. Sensing a shift in the market, in 2011 Andrew transitioned to multifamily acquisitions and has successfully syndicated and repositioned over 2,100 multifamily units.

Is Real Estate Syndication Worth Your Time? Aug 27, 2021

Key Information:

Understand what your goals are to know what type of investing you should be doing. It may not be syndications!

Make sure you know what the IRR truly means and know if that is the metric you should be looking at. There is a lot more to a deal that what the projections are as your projections change month one. Understand the quality of the deal and why you are investing in that asset class.

Communication with your LPs should have different levels. Have options for more granular details and other options for basic information. Think, a Slack channel vs email.

Test your theories with your own money and effort. Then take on investors and grow at a larger scale. Ryan is working this effort on his 5 cabin AirBnB!

Pro tip: Don’t get star struck by return projections. Understand what you are investing in on a deeper level.
