    WELCOME TO CELTIC MUSIC

    * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn. I'm a musician and podcaster. Four times a month, I share my love of Irish and Celtic music from around the globe with you. I hope you find a new favorite Celtic band or musician or fall back in love with one.

But I'm also here for the artists. The artists in this show need your support, which you can do by buying their music or telling a friend about the band you found. You can find a link to all of the artists, along with show times for each song when you visit our website at celticmusicpodcast.com. You can also support this podcast on Patreon.

Pub Songs & Stories is a Virtual Public House for musicians to share the stories and inspiration behind their music. I'm looking for some good stories to share on our companion podcast. If you have a story that you'd like to share about a song, from a gig, or maybe even just a piece of Celtic history that you love. Drop me an email. Put "Pub Story" in the show subject. Tell me about your story. Maybe I'll ask you to record your story for the show.

THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST!

Because of Your kind and generous support, this show comes out at least four times a month. Your generosity funds the creation, promotion and production of the show. It allows us to attract new listeners and to help our community grow.

As a patron, you get to hear episodes before regular listeners. When we hit a milestone, you get an extra-long episode. You can pledge a dollar or more per episode and cap how much you want to spend each month over on Patreon. And if you pledge $5 or more per episode, you'll also get the all new music-only episodes. I introduce the show, play non-stop music for nearly an hour, and then close the show. Plus, you'll get access to hundreds of free MP3 downloads.

A super special thanks to our newest patrons: Larry J, Kevin S, Kriskorn C

CELTIC CHRISTMAS PODCAST IS BACK IN A NEW FORMAT

Do you like Christmas music? I also host the Celtic Christmas Podcast. The podcast has new format this year. Instead of music episodes like I do here on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, the show highlights a Celtic musician with Christmas music that you can buy OR Stream on our all new Celtic Christmas Playlists.

The first playlist of the season is now available. It highlights Celtic Christmas Women. Most of the tracks from last year's Celtic Christmas Women episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. So it's a fantastic playlist. So if you're on Spotify, follow the link to listen.

Now that said, I did republish that music podcast episode on the feed. But starting November 28, the all new show launches with a new Celtic Christmas playlist. You can help spread Celtic Christmas Cheer. Subscribe to the show at CelticChristmasPodcast.com and help me develop a brand new Christmas podcast and playlist experience!

TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos. AUDIO FEEDBACK Laura O

Thanks Laura. Here's hoping your son has a happy birthday. And thanks for coming back to the podcast. :)

Peter Bengtson emailed some more photos: "Hi Mark, I've been back in Tucson for about 10 days after our birding trip to Hawaii. The Hawaii trip was excellent with about 35 life birds, a good group of people, and excellent guides.

I'm back to doing my early morning walks (have to start walking about sunrise for the cooler weather). The photo was taken looking north to Safford peak with a hot air balloon moving to the right to pass Safford to the east side. Back in my peak climbing days I climbed Safford a number of times. It's a great trip with wonderful views from the top.

I learned how to connect 3 of your podcasts, so I could listen to your podcasts for the whole time. Thanks for the work you do to distribute this music."

Peter Bengtson sent another photo from October: "Mark, I've recently been walking the bicycle trail along the Rillito River. This was the most dramatic piece of art along the trail. It shows bats riding bicycles. The upper bat and bicycle is upside down since the bats hang upside down under the bridges over the river.

The second and third messages are information signs about the Mexican Free Tail bats living under bridges. I couldn't figure out how to get all 3 photo into the same message."

Eilene Ording emailed a photo: "Marc, Here's a photo of what I do while listening to your podcast. I walk early in the morning in Kansas City, Missouri and this day, the moon was still up and walked with me.

My Scottish roots are very deep and we came to North America via Ireland. My mother's maiden name is McCamus which would equate to McKeamish or McHamish probably in Scottish. Be that as it may, we are part of Clan Gunn. One of my bucket list items is to visit the Clan Gunn Museum & Heritage Centre in Latheron, Scotland. Unfortunately, they are not open and I can't travel at the moment anyway.

I'm enjoying your podcast. I've been sending the podcast link and some band links to my son in the U.S. Navy in Guam. We share an interest in all things Celtic or Gaelic. My favorite band is Gaelic Storm (they play the KC Irish Fest every Labor Day Weekend), but I recently fell in love with Niamh Parsons' voice. I first heard her and her partner on your podcast.

    Have a great day."

Rich Windsor replied to the Celtic Music Magazine: "Amazing!!! Thank you so much Marc!

Working like crazy to sell a house that my wife and I owned. Married for 35 years and she passed away from complications of MS. Its frightening how much stuff people accumulate when they stay in one place, and now I am moving to a nice small apartment for one person. As soon as I move and get my internet hooked up, will go through all of these even though it will probably be too late! (emailing you from work!) Thanks again!

One of your favorite fans from Shoreline Washington, (just north of Seattle)."

Mary L Deal emailed: "Hi Marc, I forgot to tell you that my mom and I went to Ireland back in 1994. We loved it. Got drunk and then got lost in Dublin... At night. We only got to see the southern towns all the way around the Southern portion.

Beautiful places all over. We met a gal Bartender from Boston who went over there and hasn't left. I have your CD that has the resterant on it. Irish Dring Songs? Brodignagian Bards I think.

I just love it. My daughter loves it too. She had seen a gentleman who told the story of "an Irish Christmas". You make it. I think your family might too. it's wonderful. Slainte,"

Ken Katen sent you a message on Patreon: "Hi, Marc -

Listening to your Love of Planet Earth (#491- I'm catching up on my music podcasts), I thought it was well past time that I thank you for so many years of WONDERFUL Irish & Celtic music. I've been listening to your podcast since very nearly the beginning, sometimes more religiously than others. Sure, it's been grand to hear - and now to get to see a bit of - you, how you and your family have grown and, even tho we've never met face to face, I feel like I know you, just a bit. I remember when you moved (from Texas?) to New Orleans, when you met your LadyLove, and when your wee daughter needed such a grievous surgery (I believe I lit a candle). I hope you all are doing fine, and I'm glad I can help you here at Patreon. I wish I could do more, but I'm supporting a few artists here and [buying] music when I can.

One of my favoritest memories, from many years ago now, is of bombing along the dirt 'backcountry' roads of Joshua Tree National Park, in my then-new 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD, windows up to keep the dust out, a/c on and your podcast playing LOUD. That show was one when you played a pub-ish song (I think one of yours) that was a paen to Joss Whedon, over whom you also rhapsodized before & after the song. I'd tried "Firefly," it hadn't resonated, but you convinced me to give it another try. By the second episode I was intrigued, by the third I'd fallen hopelessly in love, both with Serenity and her crew (WHAT? only 14 episodes??!!) and with all things Whedon. I had my own grievous surgery/recovery awhile after that, and I loaded up my Netlix CD queue with Angel, based on its description of a troubled vampire trying to navigate his way through the modern world, and when I realized it was a Buffy spinoff, I went back and started watching Buffy until Angel spun off, then watched them in airing order (compulsive engineer here) until they both wrapped up. And since then, Dollhouse, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (well, a lot of it, anyway) - he's so darn [prolific]. I'm not sure whether to say "Thank you" or "Curse ye." ;)

And along the way, I've learned so much about Celtic history and culture from listening to your show - Italian Celts - who knew?? Your taste and selections have grown more and more discerning, and the old favorites come around again too, and I'm always a sucker for a beautiful ballad or a stirring dance instrumental. And your commitment to showcasing diversity in the Celtic music world is outstanding - not only your women only shows, but now your commitment putting together a Pride show of LGBT+ artists. As a gay man myself, who went to the first ever Northern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire - in my defense, I WAS still in high school - and spent some time in my 20's hanging out with the SCA, I know we fae folk have always been a big, but more-or-less closeted part of the re-creationist/Celtic music and cultural world, which [can] present as overtly misogynistic and heterocentric. Just like in real life, sometimes, I guess. But closets are for kilts. And your hand made chain mail, if you've got it. So a big rainbow THANK YOU! .?? for all you're doing to bring out its beautiful diversity.

All this has been a longwinded way (I'm Sicilian and Greek, so...) of saying "Thank you" for all the pleasure you've given me. Now that I'm retired, and locked down here in San Francisco, I plan to mark my calendar for the next Celtfather show. Once we're past this dratted Crown Virus thingy, p'raps I'll be able to join you on a Celtic Invasion Vacation, if you're still doing them.

    Bliadhna Mhath Ùr"

Thank you to each of the women I listened to today. I felt myself embraced by the divine creative feminine. Then came a connection to culture and in the last song by Amelia Hogan "Cornish Lads" the recognition my music is influenced by Celtic heritage.

Here's a song of mine I'd love too share with you. Click here to listen.

Alied Pérez Martínez emailed: "Hi Marc, Since my last mail I've moved to England, but due to the "Cerveza" issue I haven't been able to visit the Celtic lands nearby. Until last weekend when, to take advantage of the bank holiday, I went to Manchester to visit my brother.

From there we went to Colwyn Beach and hiked to Llandudno, with a short stop at Angel Bay, North Wales. There I took some footage and photos of the beautiful Welsh coastline and landscape.

And this is where your expertise is required. I want to publish it to YouTube, and use some Welsh music as background. Can you suggest me tunes/artists to use? Either safe tracks or from artists who agree to be used. Proper credit will be acknowledge, of course. The video should probably be around 7 minutes; no more than 10 minutes.

What you think? Whom should I ask but the Celt Father?"

Episode #183 is the Music of Wales. Additional artists: Robin Huw Bowen, No Murder No Moustache, Allan Yn Y Fan

Brian McReynolds emailed a photo from episode 516: "Listening to the latest episode while relaxing on Cannon Beach, OR."

John Spencer II emailed: "Love Celtic music and your podcasts. Hi Mark. I really enjoy your work and the music on all of the Celtic music podcast. I'm currently enjoying it with a cup of strong coffee and playing Lord of the Rings Online."

Liz Murphy emailed: "I recently discovered your podcasts and it has raised my morale enormously. I recently broke my leg seriously, recently, and am stuck, alone, in a rehab clinic for weeks. Your lovely music is so beautiful that I am transported to Ireland instantly, the home of my gorgeous husband. Keep up the good work. You are loved!"

Peter Bengtson emailed: "Enjoyed listening to 6 hours of your podcasts Saturday. I spent that time flying from Phoenix to Honolulu. I could listen to your podcasts stored on my phone.

The SiriusXM symphony hall concerts I listened to don't stay on the phone.

I'll be on a commercial birding tour for 12 days. I'll be too busy to listen to music then.

I'll catch up when I'm back home."

I finished performing at Dragon Con last week. That's a big science fiction convention I do every year here in Atlanta. It was another rousing success. And happily, my two covid tests I took afterward were negative. It's awesome being vaccinated. But the last thing I want is for my kids or friends or fans to get sick.

But this means, I am still behind on getting ahead on podcasts. Maybe after Gen Con in Indianapolis, which is where I am currently performing. I was barely able to get this episode done in time.

Attention musicians, and music lovers, Pub Songs & Stories is the place for musicians to share the stories and inspiration behind their music. If you have a story that you'd like to share about a song you wrote, or from a gig, or maybe even just a piece of Celtic history that you love. Drop me an email. Put "Pub Story" in the show subject. Tell me about your story. Maybe I'll ask you to record your story for the show.

Michael Cavanaugh emailed: "Hi Marc, I wanted to say I really enjoy the new opening to the podcast. I think you saying "I am Marc Gunn" is so powerful and yet personal. I hope you have enjoyed the change and I wonder if anyone else has noticed.

I recently got engaged! My fiancé and I love the podcast, its always playing like radio in our house and cars. You mentioned the next Celtic Invasion is in Scotland, which is where we went to go for our honeymoon. You also mentioned it will be near the beginning of June 2022. Thats also when we are planning our wedding, and it sees fortuitous that perhaps we can go on the Invasion vacation shortly after our big day. Have you "Loched" down dates yet?

Where can we send a wedding invite?"

Katherine McMillan emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, Thanks so much for all you do, I've found many great Irish/Celtic bands through listening to your podcast. I usually listen to it while I'm in the lab at work but we are currently in lockdown here in Victoria, Australia so my work is closed. Instead, I'm listening to the podcast while sorting out all the sheet music for my flute quartet, hoping it will inspire me to arrange more Celtic music for four flutes as it's definitely our favourite type of music to play. At the moment I've got the Rainy Days episode playing; it seemed appropriate given the very cold and wintery days.

Thanks again and keep up the great work!"
