This week, Linda discusses Trump’s economy, and his impacts on the stock market. As you are probably noticing, the market is still on a major roller coaster ride, thanks to Trump’s policy decisions–from DOGE to tariffs and beyond. Last, week the stock market neared correction territory after Trump enacted sweeping tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods. After the stock market nearly tanked, Trump walked back the tariffs. We are in a limbo–will Trump eventually enact more tariffs? Are we heading towards a stock market crash? Trump’s capricious decisions are impacting all of us, republican and democrat alike, and the economy and stock market are suffering.

Linda also unpacks a new jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While job numbers are up (yay!)unemployment numbers are up too (boo!), especially among Latinx folks. This doesn’t bode well for the economy and job seekers. Sweeping layoffs and firings across the country (especially from DOGE) will be especially represented in next month’s jobs report. Linda also shares updates on the latest update from Fed Chair Powell and his latest updates on rate hikes and stock market volatility, and why his comments impacted the market positively.

Investies, we are now publishing new episodes every Tuesday! Thanks for tuning in. This week, Linda shares two committees she has joined in this legislative session: Pension, Investments, and Financial Services (PIFS), and Delivery of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The DOGE committee of which Linda is now a part is not the DOGE committee that Elon Musk is running on the federal level; instead, this is a committee that operates on a state level in Texas, and it reviews if Texas state agencies are running as efficiently as possible.

Last Wednesday, the stock market was at an all time high. And then on Thursday and Friday, investors started selling off, which precipitated a sharp decline in the market. Trump’s trade war, and new tariffs, are the cause. Linda unpacks how this all went down–and advises us on what to do right now as investors.

Linda also updates us on the latest in inflation. The CPI (consumer price index) measures the change in prices paid for goods and services–and it’s currently telling us that inflation is still a problem.

Linda also takes a look at the history of tariffs, and their impact on the national debt, and examines the latest round of Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum. The Dow, the SMP500, and the NASDAQ have all seen swings and drops following the announcement of the tariffs–and the stock market will continue to oscillate due to the instability of the news cycle. Economists are concerned about the possibility of an upcoming recession, due to the potential instability of the GDP, and upcoming contractions in American imports and exports. So, what do we do when things get unstable? We stay put! No sudden moves in your portfolio!
