Last week, Linda and the rest of the reps voted on a key piece of legislation: vouchers for private education. Families are being given vouchers that potentially drive funding away from public schools in Texas. Texas and fellow Texas House democrats voted against the legislation to protect families and support public education; republicans by and large voted for the legislation–and won. In this episode, Linda unpacks what happened in this legislative session, and the impact the passage of this legislation will have on Texas residents.

Q2: Market manipulation and volatility: the stock market saga continues Apr 15, 2025

Last week, it looked like the stock market was going to crash: it actually did crash, but it recovered by the end of that trading day. Linda explains what intraday trading is. We are witnessing Trump manipulate the stock market right now, using his Truth Social and X feeds to signal stock market drops and recoveries. This is, needless to say, unprecedented. Trump is reversing on tariffs, delaying them, and making exceptions for certain goods, which is adding to stock market volatility and chaos. Currently, Linda is not making new investments. She is waiting to buy when the market is less volatile. For now, stay strong, Investies! Don’t let your emotions get the better of you as you watch the market rise and drop and rebound again. We’ll ride this out together!

Q2: Yes, the stock market is crashing–here’s what to do about it Apr 08, 2025

Linda examines the most recent jobs report–and while we added 228,000 jobs to the market, the unemployment rate increased from 4.1% to 4.2%. Normally, positive jobs numbers would be reflected positively in the stock market, but the market isn’t celebrating at all. Trump’s tariffs and resulting reciprocal tariffs from trading partners like China are causing stock market chaos.

Speaking of stock market chaos… We’ve been waiting and wondering if and when the market was going to crash. It is now. This is not the time to sell off your entire portfolio. This is the time to hold on–that will only cause the stock market to crash further. This is the time to invest in those blue chip stocks that you normally can’t afford. This is the time to hold fast and have patience, and manage your emotions as an investor. Remember: we’ve seen market crashes before. We’re currently headed towards a bear market, which means that yes, the stock market is crashing, or has crashed (depending on when you listen to this). And yes, the catalyst is Trump’s tariffs, and the possibility of a full-blown global trade war.

We’re not in rally territory at all–but at least the stock market isn’t still plummeting. It’s likely that what we’re seeing is the stock market girding itself for more economic turmoil to come–between Tariffs and Trump’s divisive policies. Linda also analyzes the last six months of the stock market–from unprecedented and unstable growth since the 2024 re-election of Trump, to the market’s recent nosedive. She also provides advice for investors on how to meet the stock market in its current state. Linda also unpacks what the GDP is, and what it means when it comes to recessions. The next GDP numbers will be released on April 30, 2025; we will know then whether or not we are technically in a recession.
