I'll Call You Right Back #99 - Baxter & The Bear Dec 19, 2019

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Dan Grguras who is the creator of Baxter & The Bear. I first spotted his work at the I Made It Market last year. Dan creates alternate film and tv posters using a style he's developed over the last several years. He searches all over to find significant items from movies and tv and manipulates them into a single image that encapsulates the entire film or show (as you see above). The first piece I saw was a 'Home Alone' piece that incorporated paint cans, micro machines, and ornaments. The detail Dan takes into making his work as close to authentic as possible does not go unnoticed. We talk about where his love of film came from, and how it's progressed into this unique style he is perfecting. I loved talking with Dan and I really love all of his work. Each poster is so thought out and detailed in such a way you can't help but to love. Enjoy the episode and check out his page!

I'll Call You Right Back #98 - Highway Robbery Vintage Dec 12, 2019

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Kate Colussy to talk about her shop in the Southside of the city called Highway Robbery Vintage. Kate opened her store in 2011 and has been killing it ever since. Highway Robbery is a vintage shop that specializes in affordable and unique vintage items for men and women. When I worked in the Southside, I would pop into her shop and check out all the cool stuff she had. I always liked the vibe. We talk about how Kate got into vintage items, opening her own shop, flea markets, quitting cigarettes and caffeine, working retail in the airport before 9/11 and how much it changed after it happened, and so much more. This was a really cool episode. She has been in vintage game for almost a decade. I feel like that means she was into this before vintage started to boom in the last five years so I thought hearing about her journey through it all would be really interesting. Enjoy the episode! I'll Call You Right Back #97 - Ryan Peters Dec 05, 2019

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Chef Ryan Peters. From a young age, Ryan always knew he wanted to cook. We talk about everything from his first job scrubbing dishes, to working as a banquet chef in a high end resort, to working his way up to interning at The French Laundry under Chef Thomas Keller. Ryan has done some really cool stuff. Now Ryan spends his time perfecting all things pasta, hustling lasagna to Juju, and heading the pasta program at Iron Born's new location in the Strip District. His Instagram caught my eye in the beginning. For some reason pasta being made is pleasing to see so make sure you check his page out. Enjoy the episode!

I'll Call You Right Back #96 - Steel City Nov 21, 2019

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Brandon Grbach, the owner and creator of Steel City. If you're from Pittsburgh, there is a 100% chance you've seen some of his work running through the streets of our city. Brandon knew he wanted to become an entrepreneur for a long time. After having a couple of other business ventures fall apart, he started to take over the city with Steel City. It's quickly becoming a staple in our city with their use of all the characteristics we love about Pittsburgh. We talk about starting out, the importance of failing, when Steel City started to take off, and much more. Enjoy.

I'll Call You Right Back #95 - Beedie Nov 14, 2019

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Beedie to talk about his brand new project. Beedie has been making music for many years. When I think of Beedie, I think of Timebomb, Blasfome, custom Beedie lighters, Shadow Lounge, and the Varsity Squad. Right around 2010, Pittsburgh had a serious boom of insane talent pumping through the city and Beedie was one of the front runners. I saw him playing shows every weekend and putting out music with some of the best in the game. After taking a little time off, Beedie is back with a brand new project that is OUT NOW on all major platforms. Tonight, I'm going to sit down with Beedie and talk about where and how it all got started. We have been trying to make this episode happen for over a year now but, #GoodThingsTakeTime and now we are both ready.

I'll Call You Right Back #94 Pt. 2 - @elchad Nov 07, 2019

Show notes

THIS IS PART 2

This week, I sit down with Chad Uddstrom. Chad is a hockey player from Pittsburgh turned world traveler and blogger. After studying abroad, Chad became obsessed with all things that had to do with Latin American culture. From the people to the landscapes, Chad began to submerse himself in that world. Traveling all over, Chad has seen and experienced so many incredible things and this entire episode is all about his journey. We talk about living in different places, learning the language, the food, the traditions, the good, the bad, Los Gringos TV, and we even talk about how Chad made a Parody song for a countries famous drink that plays on the radio to this day. This is the longest episode yet. I sat there and listened to Chad talk about the most interesting stuff for over 3 hours and I was completely fascinated. Enjoy the special 2 part week.

I'll Call You Right Back #92 - Leslie Gray Oct 24, 2019

Show notes

This week, I sit down with The Steel City Medium, Leslie Gray. Leslie has had a special gift ever since she could remember. At a young age, Leslie would be able to get certain premonitions, feel certain emotions from animals, and communicate with spirits. Her first time communicating with the afterlife, was with two people who expired in the home she grew up in. The man, a butcher, was covered in blood and frightened her. The woman, old and frail, was protective of her. Both people far from being alive, were still able to communicate with this little girl. Leslie has been using her gift since she was young to try and help anyone she can. Listen to our conversation about how she began this journey. This episode is definitely interesting and the perfect way to wrap up a great October full of spooky podcasts. Thanks for listening. Enjoy.

I'll Call You Right Back #91 - Zach Brown Oct 17, 2019

Show notes

This week, I talk to the extremely talented Zach Brown. Zach is one of the most interesting people I've had the pleasure to speak with. When I first saw Zach's art, all I could imagine was a silent person who paints by candle light while some creepy ass music plays in the background. Boy, was I wrong. Zach is an endless stream of information and energy. I sat there and listened to everything he spoke about and tried to keep up. I wish I could be inside his head only for a moment to see how he processes information because he had a wealth of knowledge that poured from his mouth. We jump all over the place and touch on lots of different topics. Usually, I'm the one who drives the conversation in the episodes. But this week, Zach took the drivers seat and I loved every second. He kept me on my toes. We talk about painting, inspiration, music, creative process, and so much more. It is truly so interesting to hear how someone this talented comes up with ideas and executes one of his many larger scale works. Enjoy the episode!
