I'll Call You Right Back #108 - Boaz Frankel Mar 05, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Boaz Frankel. Boaz was brought to my attention during the Rick Sebak episode. Rick explained to me that Boaz hosted a podcast in which you explain your favorite sandwich in a couple minutes. That immediately sparked my interest so I contacted Boaz and set up an interview. I couldn't have had a better time talking about everything and more with my new friend Boaz. Boaz is jam packed with fantastic stories about traveling, creative adventures like the Pedal Powered Talk Show, and so much more. Enjoy my conversation with new friend Boaz and be sure to head over to his page and check out all the cool things he's done! Thanks for listening!

I'll Call You Right Back #107 - Monarch Vintage Feb 27, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Sean Flynn. Sean is a young entrepreneur who focuses his passions into his work at Monarch Vintage. Monarch Studios is a very unique vintage shop located in Verona, Pa. When you walk in, you're greeted by different rooms which have different themes and experiences that all focus around his hand picked vintage goods. Sean and I talk about how he got into appreciating clothing and what made him want to drop his career and make a space of his own. This episode is dope. I always love talking with people who say 'screw it' and take that next step. Enjoy our conversation and thanks for listening.

I'll Call You Right Back #106 - Toll Gate Revival Feb 20, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Seth Hunter, who is the owner of Toll Gate Revival. Toll Gate Revival is a Vintage Americana shop located in historic Braddock, Pa. Seth grew up on a farm and throughout his childhood, he would go to flea markets, auctions, and estate sales with family. Early on, Seth didn't have any plans on reselling vintage items full time, but after working a "regular job" he realized that he wasn't into working for someone else. He slowly worked his way around the city hunting and gathering vintage pieces that caught his eye and eventually acquired a space to store them. After he had enough, he started selling pieces and continuously grew his brand to eventually end up at his location now in Braddock. It's cool to hear about people risking it all to do what they love. Enjoy.

I'll Call You Right Back #105 - Hal B Klein Feb 13, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Hal B Klein. Hal is the Pittsburgh Magazine Food Editor and Dining Critic. I was first told about Hal by Chef Matt at Streets on Carson. Hal was looking for the best Turkey Devonshire in all the lands and Streets got one that's worth writing home about. Hal and I talk about how he got into loving food on a different level. Early on, Hal wanted to be an actor and a lawyer but after eating a perfectly ripe and in season strawberry, his whole career trajectory changed for the better. We talk about food, acting, Super Punch, Cobra Lounge, and so much more. This was such a great episode. Hal has such a cool job and I really loved hearing about how he got to where he is today.

I'll Call You Right Back #104 - The Hounds Feb 06, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with The Hounds. The Hounds is a collective of creative minds founded by two brothers, Clay McCloskey and Cole McCloskey. The Hounds started off as an idea that would allow a broad spectrum of creative assistance to anyone who would seek it. From planning events and creating art installations to creating custom furniture and quality workwear, they have an impressive resume when it comes to thinking outside the box and executing. After getting their feet wet and assisting others with a few events early on, they began to create their own. They quickly recruited a team full of killers. Each of these minds has a strong focus in their own lane, but as a whole, they make up a team to get shit done. This is a great episode. These guys are doing awesome things. It was a pleasure to finally sit down and talk.

I'll Call You Right Back #103 - Matt Spahr Jan 30, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Matt Spahr. Matt is a spray can artist from Pittsburgh, whose been an OG in the game for many years. He is respected by many of the great artists we have in our city. Matt grew up in a world of skateboarding, music, and painting. As most of us do, Matt started doing small drawings and paintings as a young kid. He eventually fell in love with skateboarding and that played a big part in the transition to the world of spray can art and graffiti. I really enjoyed this episode. Graffiti is a strange world that is based off of infamy. It's really cool to hear the perspective of someone who grew up in a world of being known without actually being known and is now doing great art and being able to show the face of the creator. Enjoy the episode.

I'll Call You Right Back #102 - Dean Bog Jan 23, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with the man of the hour. Dean Bog is a fantastic filmmaker originally from New Jersey, but who currently calls Pittsburgh home. Over the last couple years, Dean has been creating YouTube videos that touch on all different topics. Recently, Dean focused his work on the neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. Each week, Dean releases a 15 minute video that encapsulates the heart and soul of the area he is working on. When I watch his videos, I see love, hard work, passion, interest, honesty, and authenticity. Over the last month or two, Dean's work has been noticed by people in our city and from what I can see, everyone loves it. In this episode, I dig deep into Deans brain and figure out what makes him tick. Enjoy the episode and please check his work. It's so worth it.

I'll Call You Right Back #101 - Rick Sebak Jan 16, 2020

Show notes

This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with the voice of Pittsburgh, Mr. Rick Sebak. If Pittsburgh had a Mt. Rushmore of influential people from our city, Rick would absolutely be on it. I was so happy to sit back and listen to Rick navigate me through his earlier years, attending school, working with PBS and WQED, 'Nebby' and the Rick-starter, the importance of Kennywood Park, and so many more great things. I'm so proud of what this podcast has become and I'm honored to cross Ricks name off my list of guests. Enjoy the episode.

I'll Call You Right Back #100 - Alex Robba Jan 09, 2020

Show notes

This week, I sit down with Alex Robba. Alex is a professional wedding cake artist and his work is absolutely fantastic. Alex has a very elegant style that centers around floral and abstract embellishments of all varieties. As I was looking at his photos, I noticed a lot of flowers. Once I looked a little harder and started reading, I saw that all these beautiful flowers were hand made out of sugar. I was blown away by the detail. We talk all about how Alex started down this road and how he got to where he is today. This episode is great and I hope you enjoy.
