Micro Queers: Killer Body Count (2024) Aug 26, 2024

Show notes

Pack your bags and grab that promise ring because we're discussing Danishka Esterhazy's (Slumber Party Massacre '21) Tubi Original slasher Killer Body Count!

This one is a bit of a mixed bag, as there are several great moments sprinkled throughout its unnecessarily long 2-hour runtime, but the gore is good and the cast is game, so you could do a lot worse on a Friday night!

Titane (2021) feat. Girl, That's Scary Aug 21, 2024

Show notes

Strap yourself in because we're serial killing and car fucking with Titane (2021). Riding along in the Cadillac are Jazz and Kat of Girl, That's Scary, who have plenty to say about Julia Ducournau's follow-up to Raw.

Up for discussion: how many people has Alexia killed and have long has she been sleeping with cars? Is Justine the same cannibal character? What is Vincent sticking in his ass? And did Rayane deserve to be exploded?

Plus: working through pronouns and a few trans readings (both pro and con), Ducournau's visceral sound design, the film's use of dance & musicality, and baby body horror.

Micro Queers: Doctor Jekyll (2023) Aug 19, 2024

Show notes

A contemporary trans take on Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde featuring Suzy Izzard?! We were so psyched for this one, but alas, Trace doesn't recommend and Joe is only a soft recommend.

Despite strong performances, writer Dan Kelly-Mulhern doesn't do anything with the material, which results in a film that's just kinda boring.

If you're looking for a better take on this material, you're better off revisiting 1971's Doctor Jekyll and Sister Hyde.

Blood for Dracula (1974) feat. Conrad Chambers Aug 14, 2024

Show notes

Pack your bags because we're heading to Italy to look for the blood of wirgins in (Andy Warhol's) Paul Morrissey's Blood for Dracula (1974), a companion piece to his (their?) Flesh for Frankenstein (1974). Tagging in for the conversation is Conrad Chambers, the co-host of Movie Oubliette and The Queer Gaze. CW: sexual assault.

Join us as we try to figure out just what is going on in this wacky little movie. From Udo Kier's diva of a Dracula to the film's very, very questionable messaging when it comes to sexual assault, there's no shortage of things to discuss.

Need a refresher on Flesh for Frankenstein? Listen to our episode on it right here!

Unfriended: Dark Web (2018) feat. Serena Whitney Aug 07, 2024

Show notes

Beware of The Circle because we're exploring the dangers of Screenlife with Stephen Susco's sequel, Unfriended: Dark Web (2018).

Along for a journey on The River is Serena Whitney, who remembers seeing the OG Unfriended back when it was called Cybernatural!

Plus: casual queer representation, a disabled damsel in distress, why none of these characters are stupid, the best/meanest death(s), a PSA about fake movie news, and - cue the Clue music - our ranking of all 4 endings.
