Celtics PRIDE: Taking stock of the Cs at midseason with Keith Smith Mar 09, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of Celtics PRIDE, Adam, Josh, and Mike are joined by Celtics and NBA Insider, Keith Smith (@keithsmithnba) from Celticsblog and Yahoo Sports. They begin the episode by re-visiting Josh’s prediction from 2 weeks ago, when he suggested that a simple 4-game win streak would change fans’ outlook on the team. So... with the 4-game win streak heading into the All-Star break… do we actually feel better about the team? From there, the Celtics Pride team asks Keith for his impressions of the team at the midway point of the season. Is Keith surprised by where the C’s sit in the standings? Does he consider the 1st half of the season a disappointment? Given the team’s success in recent years, is any season that doesn’t end with a Finals berth a disappointment? Then they get Keith’s read on what he thinks Danny and the Front Office should do as the trade deadline approaches, the types of player he thinks the team should pursue with the TPE, and whether the TPE is better to use midseason or next offseason. Finally, Keith shares some behind the scenes insights from his recent exclusive sitdown with Jayson Tatum, which you can read here on CelticsBlog. “But [Jayson Tatum] was so genuine when he talked about, you know, ‘there’s nowhere I want to be but Boston’” - Keith Smith, discussing his recent interview with Jayson Tatum. The Celtics Pride team closes with a brief reaction to Keith’s insights, before Josh reflects on Tatum’s post 2020 All-Star elevation in his positive thought of the day. We have a little fun with our discussion of the All-Star weekend, discussing how incredibly talented the players are, why we are grateful the game went ahead, and how the skills challenge is total garbage. We wrap up the show with some trade targets discussion, and why Blake Griffin in Brooklyn isn't scary at all. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Celtics PRIDE: Mid-Season Evaluation and 2nd Half Expectations Mar 02, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of Celtics PRIDE, Adam, Josh, and Mike give their impressions of the season so far based on pre-season expectations. Josh 48-24 - 3rd in East Mike 44-28 - 5th in East Adam 40-32 - 5th in East Kemba looks healthy and Brown has made a leap. But has Tatum also made a leap? How is the bench compared to expectations? Was this what you expected from Thompson and Teague? Is Semi Ojeley doing enough? Is Rob Williams Consistent? Is Aaron Nesmith still in the rotation? s Payton Pritchard in a slump? This team is playing as poorly as it seems and the numbers back it up. They are only a +.5 in point differential, 13th in net rating, 13th in offensive rating and 16th in defensive rating. “Kemba is health, Brown made a leap, Tatum has continued his strong play from last year and they have three bench contributors in Tristan Thompson, Rob Williams and Payton Pritchard. So How is this team still so average?” - Adam Motenko Then the guys take a look at the rest of the season and make predictions. This includes Coach Josh calling Romeo Langfor a “special scorer” and expecting big things from the second year wing. Celtics PRIDE: Waiting for Brown and Tatum to Mature, and Wondering about Kemba Feb 23, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of Celtics PRIDE, Adam, Josh, and Mike try to make sense of the Celtics up-and-down play over the last week, and come to peace with the fact the Celtics are not likely to compete for the ‘ship as currently constructed. The question is… what does that mean for next steps? Well, Adam and Josh argue that the team is best served by enduring the growing pains that come with a young bench and two young stars growing into new roles as lead playmakers, while Mike wonders whether Ainge should be looking to trade Kemba for something of value (even if modest) to create greater long-term cap flexibility. Josh even introduces the newest Celtics PRIDE segment “Started from the comments, now we’re here” to underscore his message of the need to keep patient with this young team that’s still learning their way. The Celtics PRIDE team then revisits their TPE big boards from the other week to see whether priorities have shifted based on movement in the standings, and the Celtics helter-skelter performance. Mike then proposes a three-team trade to Adam and Josh that would Kemba and returns a former All-Star to the Celtics. Finally, Coach Motenko asks whether the Kemba chemistry hype is overblown, and asks Adam and Mike which former Celtic they’d rather have on the team right now if forced to pick: Al Horford, Terry Rozier, or Jae Crowder. “I think it’s about maturity… I think, you know, these guys [Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum] are gonna be good ball movers when they’re in their prime but they’re years away from their prime right now.” Coach Motenko on what’s contributing most to the Celtics stagnant offense.
