    Gen X, This is Why.

Gen X, This is Why is a podcast that re-examines the sometimes bizarre and often scarring media from our shared childhood. Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal enemies, are your hosts. Our first stop is Walnut Grove as we take a fresh look at our favorite frontier family (as if we can name another), the Ingalls. There is some seriously weird sh*t in this show that answers a lot of questions…

Little House on the Prairie S2 Ep05 Haunted House Aug 10, 2020
    Show notes

You have to love a Little House in which a ghost pops up in the first 10 mins. The town gossips and makes sweeping assumptions about a bad-ass loner in town, Mr. Pike, whose only crime is hating kids and being tall. Laura invades his privacy and finds out that his wife has “moved back to the city,” but it turns out she died 20 years earlier. Jack reveals himself for the traitor and coward we all knew him to be. Finally, we take a trip down memory lane and remember all of the ‘maniacs’ waiting to kill us, while discussing our mother’s addition to true crime shows.

Blockbusters: Dirty Dancing Aug 06, 2020
    Show notes

Join us as we go on holiday with the Housemans in the summer of 1963 and meet Baby, Insane Lisa, Gorgeous Penny, Johnny (the fonz), Douchebag Robbie, and Pencil D*ck Neil. Twenty-five-year-old Amye apologies to fictional Johnny for some insensitive jokes. We also discover that Jennie would have never given Baby that $250 if she were her dad, because nobody in our family is that innocent. We learn that Baby probably now has an STD and Amye does a Post-It note’s worth of research.

    Join Our Facebook Group - The Me-Me B's Aug 05, 2020
    Show notes

We're proud to announce our new Facebook Group - The Me-Me B's!
History of the Name: The Me-Me B's was an exclusive social club created by Amye at the age of four. The name Me-Me came from Amye's inability to pronounce her own name. The B represented the first initial of her last name. The club consisted of Amye's then-closest friends and cousins and she reluctantly trusted and included her older sister, Jennie.
The Me-Me B's thrived for about a week before a darkness fell over the group. In what could only be described as the scorchiest dick move of all time, Jennie staged a coup in which she overthrew Amye as President and Founder, and then proceeded to exile her from her own club.
Today, the Me-Me B's stand for sibling equality. We remember the Great Scorching of 1981, and we renounce all attempts to undermine our power structure. We recognize all siblings are created equal.

Little House on the Prairie S2 Ep02 Four Eyes Aug 03, 2020
    Show notes

It’s report card day and when Mary doesn’t have the best grades in class, it throws everyone into turmoil. It turns out that she needs glasses but it takes almost a full episode to figure that out. The kids and middle-aged students in Miss Beadle’s class make fun of her, by calling her by the super creative name “four-eyes.” Mary gets back at everyone by OWNING yet another history test but she has to confess yet another complex web of lies to Pa. Walnut Grove is saved now that Mary’s high grades are back.

Little House on the Prairie S1 Ep16 Family Quarrel Jul 27, 2020
    Show notes

Nels and Harriet get into an epic fight and Nels gets some double yolkers over the head. Hansen and Doc make a bad situation worse when they employ some school yard strategies to a situation with grown-ass adults. Amye adds the most irritating sound effect, second only to Charles' constant chuckling in this episode. Jennie has to call Amye out when she dials in her revelation at the end of the podcast.

Little House on the Prairie S1 Ep14 The Lord is My Shepherd Jul 20, 2020
    Show notes

Tragedy strikes the Ingalls family, which causes Laura to run up a mountain to get closer (literally) to God and ask to be a human sacrifice to give Pa his son back. She meets Jonathan, played by Ernest Borgnine, who is either an angel, pedophile, or an imaginary friend. Amye relives a traumatic bird attack and Jennie learns about reality TV “crisis hair.”

Little House on the Prairie S1 Ep13 The Award Jul 13, 2020
    Show notes

Mary almost burns down the barn and that’s the least dramatic part of this episode. Ma redeems herself in Amye’s eyes when she pulls animals out of the burning barn in her nightgown. Jennie can no longer defend Mary’s nerdiness when she falls in love with a dictionary and there is a bit of live theater that almost makes up for Broadway being closed.

Little House on the Prairie S1 Ep06 For the Love of Johnny Johnson Jul 06, 2020
    Show notes

We journey into the dark and complex world of the Walnut Grove school yard, where we meet Laura’s first crush, Johnny Johnson. He’s an older boy (supposed to be 15 but we are guessing 37) and unfortunately he has a thing for Mary (because of course). Mary wants nothing to do with this shoeless Joe but it still causes a rift between sisters.

Little House on the Prairie S1 Ep05 Mr Edward's Homecoming Jun 29, 2020
    Show notes

More like "Mr. Edward’s Kidnapping" as he is pressured into giving up his carefree single guy lifestyle in Mankato to join the Ingalls in Walnut Grove. He goes from zero to wearing a suit in church faster than he can empty that whiskey jug. We realize how much Mr. Edward’s character shaped our lives but for very, very, very, very, different reasons.

Little House on the Prairie S1 Ep02 A Harvest of Friends Jun 23, 2020
    Show notes

When the Ingalls family finally arrives in Walnut Grove they meet a new cast of characters (literally) as we are introduced to Dr. Baker, The Olsens and that relentless gossip Hansen, who all lend a hand (literally) when Pa takes on more than he can handle. Join us as we are faced with acute trauma when we see a kite stuck in a tree and hear the sound of Carrie’s voice.
