    Don't Use Social Media& Fake News as a Metric Aug 15, 2019
    Show notes

Jay’s finding that lots of people are asking him similar questions, on of which is how to use social media. In this episode of The Business Mentor podcast Jay answers this popular question and expresses the importance of focusing on yourself and your journey rather than those of other peoples.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Social media is a great platform but don’t believe everything you see. People on there want engagement and attention.
    • I look to inspire other people on social media.
    • Don’t look at social media as an indication of your performance because people often fake how their life really is on there. They don’t tell you about their problems and issues they may be having.
    • Don’t look at social media and think because you don’t have the same success as someone on there, you’re failing.
    • Look at where you are now and think about what you can change right now for yourself to get to where you want to be. Break down the steps and make little changes daily until you get there.
    • Look at your own journey not other peoples because often you don’t know what’s actually happening in someone else’s life outside of their social media.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Use social media as a motivation.’

‘Don’t use social media as an indicator of how well people are doing.’

‘Make sure you do your diligence.’

‘Don’t compare yourself to others on social media.’

‘Put in the work. Avoid the mistakes.’

    ABOUT THE HOST

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. The business went on to acquire major clients such as Landrover, Jaguar, Toyota and New Look, to name a few.

Its huge success inevitably brought about outside interest, and at the age of 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly-coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

After helping several young entrepreneurs to success as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast.

Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast.

In the UK alone, 95% of business fail within the first five years, and Jay’s aim is to reduce that number.

Backed with the hard-earned knowledge and experience from his time in business, The Business Mentor Podcast will share Jay’s personal business lessons as well those of other successful entrepreneur guests who share their wisdom and secrets on the show.

Don't Make my Mistake! Here is How to Start Your Personal Brand NOW! Aug 08, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode of The Business Mentor, Jay explains why it is important in today’s world to start building your personal brand as soon as possible to open up new opportunities in your future (such as brand deals). Jay shares the simple initial steps you can take to set the foundations for you to build your personal brand on, the rest is your story to share with the world about yourself.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • With today’s technology, company directors and CEO’s can be looked up and researched on Google, it is important for people to have trust in a company owner and understand what the person who runs the company is all about.
    • Document your story, any achievements, promotions, travels, meeting of icons etc. Build your story, build a timeline of the events in your life that have led you to where you are in life now.
    • Make sure you get your content out there for others so they can understand where you’ve been, what you have done in life and what you’re all about.
    • Begin by making sure every social media platform has your name on them, even if your name has been taken, try get as near to it as possible, add ‘UK’ or an underscore to the end of your handle. Once you have it, you own it forever.
    • Even the social media platforms that don’t have much traffic, get your name onto them early as you don’t know if it will explode in the future! It’s easier to leave an account inactive than to claim a username from someone else.
    • Don’t worry about starting off small, you need to start somewhere, just keep posting content, share your journey with the world. There’s no rush to push your story out there, grow your audience organically.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘A personal brand will stay with you forever’

    ‘Document your journey’

    ‘Be authentic to your story’

‘For me this is a marathon, not a sprint’

‘Everyday if you keep churning at it, things will change’

‘You got to be yourself. It is really important to be yourself. You can’t fake it all the time. Personal branding is about you.’

A Return Engagement With Rob Moore – Here To Answer Your Questions! Aug 01, 2019
    Show notes

Jay is joined by author, speaker, world record holder, entrepreneur and investor Rob Moore, back for a return engagement for the Business Mentor Podcast, in what is being billed as his most intimate interview ever!

Rob is here to answer your questions, and the response has been phenomenal. Listen as he discusses parenting, networking, podcasting, politics and what makes a good interview...

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • There isn’t much Rob regrets, but he does mourn the fact that he didn’t take his entrepreneurial chances a little earlier in life. There were chances that he could have taken, but didn’t. But Rob’s view on his past is that it’s always best to focus on the now, and on the future. As he puts it, “I don’t look back, I look forward”
    • The most important thing, and the most rewarding, is to help others achieve their best. Rob’s success is incredible, but the real pleasure comes from knowing that he helps, influences and benefits others who are on the way up.
    • When it comes to podcast guests for his show, Rob speaks to people that he thinks his audience will find interesting. The guest may not always be someone Rob likes or shares a point of view with, but the challenge is something he relishes. The qualities he generally looks for in a guest are:
      • Are they controversial?
      • Will the guest help the show to reach a new demographic?
      • Is the guest being requested by the audience?
    • Rob doesn’t subscribe to the current trend for putting people down in public, especially those who are clearly more successful than others. They have got to where they are through clever marketing and by being the best in their field, no matter what their politics or beliefs are.
    • It’s always better to concentrate on the things in life we can control. That should always be the focus for your time, energy, enthusiasm and work.
    • Rob’s main ambition in life is to help as many people on the planet get better financial education and to start and scale their businesses, especially young and under-privileged entrepreneurs.
    • The best way to reach your customer base is by any means possible. It’s always better to be on every social media channel, use every type of contact available, especially those your competition aren’t using. Rob uses handwritten letters to reach people and has seen huge success. Plus, using these methods allows for new ways to be disruptive.

    BEST MOMENTS

    • 'We all have challenges, we all have fallouts. That’s just part of business’
    • ‘I don’t look back, I look forward’
    • ’The success of others is really the measure of your own success’
    • ‘I try to have a multidimensional thought process when it comes to my guests’
    • ‘I like to think about what I can control, not what I can’t’
    • ‘When my time is up I want to have helped millions create a better life with their finances and business’
    • ‘Being disruptive means never standing still'

The Most Important Asset to Use When Starting a Business Jul 18, 2019
    Show notes

‘Make sure you put the time in’

So far on this podcast we’ve had several great guest and there are so many yet to come! But on this episode of The Business Mentor Podcast Jay discusses the most valuable asset that a person has and the important of using it in the right way, especially if you’re looking to start a new business.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I want to congratulate Luca Gallone who I mentor and have been working with for around 6 years now as he’s just hit 1 million followers on Instagram, which is amazing! He’s been on this podcast twice already and I hope to get him back on here again for some valuable content.
    • Upon reflection of being an entrepreneur, the biggest thing for me was my time. This is because you have to take the time to learn all of these processes, lessons and things that help us become successful.
    • When entrepreneurs fail it’s usually down to them not putting the time in to do things such as research.
    • There’s been people who have said that they’ve done 18 hours of work to me but they’ve not been focusing on the right type of work. So ensure you surround yourself by people who have already been there and done it so you don’t waste that time on doing something that’s not really progressing you.
    • Getting experience in what you want to be doing by working under someone in that niche is one of the best things you can do to learn from them. You’ll see what they do right and wrong and see how you can make your business different to your competitors.
    • The 3 things that’s going to accelerate your success are either: Working under someone to gain knowledge, learn their model or get them as a mentor.
    • If you’re looking to start a business, then put the time in researching and do your due diligence before you jump into anything.

    BEST MOMENTS

    • “Your biggest and best asset is your time.”
    • “After 20 years in business I’m still learning.”
    • “The reason my most successful clients have done so well is because they’ve put the time and work in.”
    • “At the start you’ve got to put the work in.”
    • ‘Get feedback from people who have already been there and done it successfully’’
    • “Get yourself a mentor.”
    • “really value your time”
    • “Use your time wisely”

Billionaire Grant Cardone Talks to Jay About Property, Recession, Religion, Money, & Family! Jul 04, 2019
    Show notes

The ladder to success maybe isn’t what you expect. It might be very steep, a bit wobbly, and too long. So, in this episode of The Business Mentor Podcast, Jay interviews Grant Cardone, a multimillionaire entrepreneur and the best-selling author of The 10X Rule. Learn from him today some proven tips on how you can also be not just a millionaire, but a multi-billionaire entrepreneur. There’s no harm in thinking big, as long as when you build your legacy, you also contribute value to your society.

Discover also why your success solely depends on you, why financial responsibility as early as now is needed for individuals and families alike, and what habits do successful entrepreneurs have. Jay and Grant dive deep on these and more, so tune in.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Grant is a spiritual person. He’s aware of the oneness and the balance of energy needed within him and his surroundings. He’s able to quiet the noise and pass through any disorientation.
    • Success is mostly determined by the individual’s personality, values, and behaviour. Don’t ask advice from millionaires, observe what the billionaires do. Most likely, millionaires want to conserve and avoid taking much risk.
    • Dream big. Most people who put a limit on what they can reach only a dream for themselves. When wealth overflows, it’s best to share it to others. Not only have you contributed value to them, but you also have built your legacy.
    • Financial responsibility starts with understanding where you stand in your financial status. Are you able to stand still if a big recession hits the market? Plan and start growing your finances.
