FTN Episode 212 – Will Eldar Be Codex Wave Serpent Again? Oct 28, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Eldar will see the table again. We talk about the Fire Prisms and Wave Serpents this episode and highlight a few more psychic powers and strategems.

    Yo,

First things first… We had an audio issue on this show caused by a software update. I apologize in advance. I hope you can still enjoy the show. If you have trouble getting to the show from work we are also on YouTube. You can find the full show there and short tactic and reaction videos.

We come back to the Eldar codex this episode to talk about some of their power units. Fire Prisms, Wave Serpents and Falcons are back in a big way and this has a little to do with the sweet Eldar vehicle upgrades.

Being able to easily unlock dedicated transports is a hallmark of this edition, we’ve seen it with the Razorback and we think we’re going to see it with the Wave Serpents. The vehicle boasts an impressive 13 wounds with not a lot of points. It also reduces the damage it takes by 1 if it still has the serpent shield active.

The Fire Prism is also fantastic. It picks up the Leman Russ ability about firing twice and this weapon is awesome!

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. Their new mats are now hot off the presses and getting ready to be shipped. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive. If you haven’t already get your tickets NOW for the mega Las Vegas Open.

This segment is about when to paint and when not to maybe paint – what some people leave as ‘non painted surfaces’ on their models.

    FTN Episode 211 – 8th Edition Eldar Codex Review Oct 21, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Codex Eldar is up for pre-order today! While you’re on the GW site please don’t forget about Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire too. Huzzah. Its a nice day to be in the hobby.

    Hey guys,

If you have trouble getting to the show from work we are also on YouTube. You can find the full show there and short tactic and reaction videos.

This episode is all about the Eldar. In the finishing moves segment we even give some tips around painting the these types of figures.

Shadespire is also up for sale today for real. The wait is finally over! This is a fast paced game using high quality figures.

The game is part deck building, party strategy board game and part miniature wargame. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Expect more coverage on this soon!

With that said… this episode is all about the Eldar. We focus a lot on just how much cheaper Eldar units have gotten. Almost anything you were taking in the past got a point reduction in the book and some of these point discounts are HUGE.

FTN Episode 210 – Shadespire, Total War and 40k Meta – Ohh My! Oct 12, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

It’s a bit of a mixed bag this episode but we do talk about the upcoming Shadespire, Total War: Warhammer II and the current 40k meta.

    Hey all,

If you have trouble getting to the show from work we are also on YouTube. You can find the full show there and short tactic and reaction videos.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode including the new games Shadespire and Total War: Warhammer II. I know… we’re a 40k show but there is a lot to offer from both of these games.

Shadespire is a game designed from the ground up to be a competitive fast paced experience. Some are calling it a gateway game.. I am calling it what it is – Fun… We can sit down and play a complete game with excellent miniatures in about 15-20 minutes. Don’t like the outcome? You’re playing again in minutes and have the ability to change up your strategies/decks between games.

The game is part deck building, party strategy board game and part miniature wargame. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Expect more coverage on this soon!

In the second segment we talk about Total War: Warhammer II. This is a multi experience game that combines a turn base strategy game with real time simulation. You can find articles about this on the FTN articles page. We picked the game up on Steam and were up in playing in no time. The game is immersive and even though you can build giant armies to crush people – there is still an element of being a cunning general to win games.

The upcoming events we talk about are Wargames of Warriors, Vendetta Games, and Giga-Bites Cafe 10th Anniversary.

The other guys weren’t too excited about this one… but it’s about using molded plasticard to create your own custom bases. This is a way to give your army a unique look and seamlessly blend it into your display board.

FTN Episode 209 – Is Smite Too Strong?! Oct 06, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We pick up where we left off with the Astra Militarum coverage this week by discussing a couple of interesting Relics and going over the new psychic powers. In the middle of the show we chat with Pat from the Table of Ultimate Gaming and in part 3 we discuss a couple of potential ‘fixes’ for Smite in Matched Play.

    Hey guys,

I hope you caught my short video on Youtube where I talk about the new Hellhound variants.

In this episode we chat about two of the new and very powerful Relics in the IG dex. Both of these have the potential to get inside your opponents head. This is important because it won’t take much to put them on tilt while you’re raining rockets on them from range. Speaking of range… we will have a show soon to talk about how assault can work, ha.

We talk about a few upcoming events in the last part of the year and go into more detail about the Friday Night Events happening at our even Warzone: Atlanta.

Before the hobby segment we talk about the point disassociation between the models casting Smite and how powerful Smite is. While we don’t ‘solve’ the problem we do wish-list a bit about how we could consider fixing it. The Smite talk starts around 1 hour and 10 mins in.

We spend some time with Pat from the Table of Ultimate Gaming and see how their KickStarter went and discuss how people can still take advantage of the campaign price breaks.

We talk about Batch Painting this week. Assembly line style specifically. This technique can really shorten your time to table if you plan it out right. We talk about a few things that work for us.

FTN Episode 208 – Astra Militarum 8th Edition Codex Review! Sep 30, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

The Big Guns Never Tire and neither do the Bulwark of Humanity – The Astra Militarum. The AM codex is up for pre-order right now and we get to run down the goods!

    Yo,

The Astra Militarum (IG) join the ranks of personalized army options with Regimental Doctrines. Each of the well known and supported model lines get special rules specific to them. There are some VERY powerful ones like the Catachan who get to re-roll one of the random dice when determining the number of shots their vehicles fire and the Cadians that get to re-roll 1s and potentially all misses when they stand still.

We don’t talk about this in the show but the Devil Dog may see some play. It is an assault d3 weapon with a 24 inch range. You’ll hear in the show that there are lots of ways to manipulate or augment weapons like this.

Yarrick is back to his old self now with the ability to issue orders. He has been in every IG list I’ve created since 8th started and that will likely continue. Conscripts basically work the same for everything you were really taking them for anyway so you will want a Commissar or two and Yarrick certainly fits the bill.

The codex is jam packed with powerful options for the Guard and even though this episode is longer than normal, we don’t get to everything. More coverage to follow in the form of bonus episodes and videos.

The Table of Ultimate Gaming has a KickStarter going on right now. There are just a few days left and if you are on the fence about this, just know they will be more expensive after the Kickstarter ends! Take a look!

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. Their new mats are now hot off the presses and getting ready to be shipped. FTN Bonus Episode 24 – Talking Admech Tactics with Geoff Robinson Sep 29, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We have TWO episodes for this week. This is just the first. In this Bonus Episode we dive deep into codex Adeptus Mechanicus strategy. If that is your faction, or you just want to know what to expect when you face them, you don’t want to miss this.

    Hey guys,

Competitive gaming professional Geoff Robinson joins me on this episode to put a real tight focus on tournament play for Adpetus Mechanicus. He’s been playing this faction since it came out several years ago.

Geoff is known for being a very strategic and tactical gamer and also not afraid to break the army list molds. What I mean is, I think he’s an innovator in 40k list design and it was great to sit down with him to discuss this new codex.

The Admech are missing some of the flashy things in some of the recent codexes we’ve seen (Primarchs…) but they can still bring what it takes to the tabletop.

In addition to 40k Geoff live streams video games and can be found as guest frequently on the Frontline Gaming podcast and youtube channel. At the end of the show we talk a little bit about Total War: Warhammer II.

Please let us know what you think!

FTN Episode 207 – Putting the Sass in Assassins Sep 21, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Some players are struggling to make their Power Armor lists work if they aren’t one of the few chapters/legions that have a Primarch. Maybe using an assassin or two will help you out! Cheap and effective.

    Hey Everyone,

This week we had a surprising number of folks ask us our opinions on assassins. They wanted to know which ones were the best and why we thought so. This topic lined right up with our discussion on how to make a Power Armor based list with no Primarch. Let’s face.. not everyone has one and we still want to play our factions!

Andrew and Paul got to spend some time with a new buddy from the Glacial Geek YouTube channel this week. He filed a battle report facing off against Andrew and I. I can’t want to see it go live on his channel. We brought some friendly lists and it was a lot of fun slugging it out.

In the middle of the show Chris and Paul catch up with Geek and Sundry contributor Raf Cordero. He is a new 40k player – brand new – first games he has ever played are in 8th edition. Chris Morgan has been walking him through the background and figuring out which faction he wants to play. We thought it would be cool to speak to him about his journey.

In the second half of the show we talk a little bit about Warzone: Atlanta before bringing up a couple of hot Chaos items people have been using at tournaments. We speak specifically about the Malefic Lord and the Giant Chaos Spawn. The Spawn… I’m not so hot on but the Malefic lord is a problem. He’s very cheap, he Smites just as good as anyone else and can go Super Saiyan when you least expect it.

The Table of Ultimate Gaming has a KickStarter going on right now. There are just a few days left and if you are on the fence about this, just know they will be more expensive after the Kickstarter ends! Take a look!

Put that Nuln Oil down! Just kidding, it is a miracle product… But this finishing moves is all about expanding your was choices to really give some distinctiveness to your models.

FTN Episode 206 – The Machines Walk – Adeptus Mechanicus First Looks! Sep 16, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Your god-emperor ran over my Forge World Dogma. We take a look at the Adeptus Mechanicus codex today. This book brings new rules and options to the 8th Index army. 28 Strategems, tons of relics, lots of special rules.

    Yo guys,

The machines walk! This book covers both the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Imperial Knights (Questor Mechanicus). The major focus is on the Admec with only a tiny bit of cross-over rules that effect the Knights. That’s not a bad thing, I am happy to have them both in the same book.

There are some clear winners in the Forge World Dogma department. Mars has the ability to manipulate the Canticles roll, giving relevant buffs to your army every turn. Stygies VIII makes your army harder to hit from 12 inches away. Graia gives your army something kinda like feel no pain but it even works in the MORALE phase. In my opinion these are the best but these are just one element to the army. Don’t forget about the strategems and relics!

    B. Cawl and many of the units in this book are similar, or the exact same, in this codex. This is a good thing for those of you who have been playing this army for a while. The Kastellan Robots are strong, the Onager Dunecrawlers are going to be a go-to for long range fire support. The additional rules in the book make a case for other units that haven’t quite hit the table yet in 8th like the Kataphrons and Electro-priests.

The Table of Ultimate Gaming has a KickStarter going on right now. There are just a few days left and if you are on the fence about this, just know they will be more expensive after the Kickstarter ends! Take a look!

Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive. If you haven’t already get your tickets NOW for the mega Las Vegas Open.

We hit decals again a little bit in this episode. Ricky is a decal fanatic and brought some new enthusiasm to the topic.

FTN Episode 205 – Codex Death Guard Sneak Peek – It’s Gross Sep 09, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

After YEARS of waiting the Death Guard are getting their own codex and a Primarch straight from the warp! New figures, new strategems, new rules, new powers… We go over everything.

    Hey hey,

Death Guard have been a favorite of mine for a long time. It is an incredible good feeling to hold this book in my hands. We kick off the show talking about Mortarion. He is a beast! This guy is more expensive than Magnus and I think you’ll hear why.

The book shows us tons of new figures and character models. We will be getting even more new kits!! We go over some of the new unit rules – like the Myphitic Blight-Hauler – a land based version of the Foetid Bloat-Drone.

People are going to enjoy this dex. Pox Walkers are still a strong troop choice. On top of the wall of pus Death Guard can create the Infantry and Helbrute units can also move and fire heavy weapons at no penalty. We didn’t expressly call that out on the show, I apologize. You can also see what on the Warhammer community page here.

The Table of Ultimate Gaming has a KickStarter going on right now. It fully funded in the first 5 minutes. That really speaks to the quality and design of this table. Please check out the pics below and their KickStarter page!

We talk about gore, pox and sores on this finishing moves. I know we’ve covered something similar before but this seemed appropriate.

FTN Episode 204 – Can You Beat Astra Militarum? Sep 01, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

The Imperial Guard are incredibly strong – so strong that we felt like we needed to dedicate an entire episode to them. Have you beaten guard in this edition? You’re going to have to.

    Hi Guys,

If you haven’t already, please check out the FTN 8th Edition Missions. They will make your games of 8th edition more competitive and fun. They are even in a ready to go tournament format.

Andrew and Paul both played guard at a local event last weekend. The Guard threat is real. The army has a ton of extremely efficient choices that are also able to pump out tons of damage.

We welcome The Table of Ultimate Gaming as a sponsor this week. Please check out their KickStarter. These guys are publishing constant updates and keeping their backers informed and in touch.

FTN mostly focuses on 40k, but again you will see in the first few episodes we take a severe deep dive into nerdom. These have been a blast to record and I hope they help pass the time for you. FORGE THE NARRATIVE (iTunes Page)
Alternatively you can subscribe via your own iTunes, and it should update our podcast when we post a new one.
