    FTN Episode 194 – Warhammer 40k 8th Edition is Here! Jun 03, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

No more teasers, the rules are here!. All this week I’ve been putting reaction videos on the FTN YouTube page. Please check them out if you haven’t already. Stay tuned for more!

    Hey Everyone,

We’re back with the full cast this week and dive head first into Warhammer 40k 8th Edition.

This is a COMPLETELY different game – in a good way. GW really listened to player feedback here sped up and or enhanced many aspects of the game to create a streamlined system. This system – allows for the generalship to shine more than it has in the last two editions. We at FTN welcome the change.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. Registration is also open of the American Team Championship. The ATC will be a full 40k 8th edition event.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. Their new mats are now hot off the presses and getting ready to be shipped. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive. Frontline is hosting another destination tournament event! Tickets go on sale for the SoCal Open May 1st!

This week we filled the show with solid 8th edition rules talk and our picks for sleeper units. Let us know what you think!

FTN Episode 193 – Chaos Gets a LEVIATHAN DREAD with GRAV! May 25, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Another week of AWESOME 8th edition teasers from GW. All this week I’ve been putting reaction videos on the FTN YouTube page. Please check them out if you haven’t already. Stay tuned for more!

    Hey Everyone,

Chris, Ricky and Paul run down the fancy new forge world datasheet GW spoiled on their community page. We talk a lot about ‘it’ but also how it applies to what we can expect from other 40k GW and Forge World releases.

First off… it is a CHAOS Leviathan. That in and of itself is pretty dern cool. It has weapons that seem amazing. Not knowing the points it is hard to see how efficient it is. If this thing is under 300 points with its weapon options.. ohh man, this is going to be good.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there! Registration is also open of the American Team Championship.

This finishing moves is all about the ITC upcoming HOBBY TRACK. Soon… you’ll be able to compete for best general of a faction in the ITC and Best Appearance in the same way but on a totally different hobby track.

    Hey Everyone,

It is just Paul and guest Ricky Addington this week. We run down the teasers for Strategems, Tactical Reserves and talk more about the Primaris Space Marines.

We are seeing the big picture come together for 8th and we are still extremely excited. It will be a whole new, better, game that rewards generalship and cunning play.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there! Registration is also open of the American Team Championship.

This has been a crazy week for 40k. We had a TON of rules discussion directly from the Warhammer Community team. All this week I’ve been putting reaction videos on the FTN YouTube page. Please check them out if you haven’t already.

    Yo Guys,

This week is just Chris and Paul on the mic giving our impressions of Warhammer 40k 8th Edition. The Games Workshop is giving us a little bit of the rules each day to digest. Today we got an update on Warzone: Damoclese.

The second part of the show we focus a lot on the dramatic increase in shooting efficiency from Twin Linked weapons and Combi Weapons.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there! Registration is also open of the American Team Championship.

FTN Age of Sigmar Episode 2 – An Aethergolden Opportunity May 12, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Sigmar has really taken off and we wanted to talk about it! It’s what we do… Sorry for the long delay but the FTN AoS episode 2 is ready for download. Don’t worry… the 40k episode this week is coming soon behind.

    GUYS!

I know that not everyone who subscribes to this show plays Age of Sigmar. I hope you’ll be ok with this being part of our show rotation. It will likely only be every 4-6 weeks and it will absolutely not replace the 40k show – even on the weeks we release both episodes.

We discuss our hobby projects and our initial impressions of the Kharadron Overlords. Some of us are pretty impressed. It is hard not to like models, that’s for sure.

Other think the ships and the Overlords themselves don’t stack up to the current meta stating they don’t believe they are durable enough or fast enough. This all remains to be seen but I think their combination of interesting transport rules and vehicle artifacts is powerful.

In the middle of the show we do a segment on the miniature game industry as a whole with Benson Green from Mindworm games.

Mindworm games is a true DIY company and part of a community of DIY game companies that are finding success in this industry. If you are remotely curious how it all comes together please check it out.

We close out the show with a little bit of a deeper dive into why I think people have yet to unlock the true power of flying fantasy dwarves!

FTN Episode 190 – Where Are We Going With 40k 8th Edition? May 04, 2017

This has been a crazy week for 40k. We had a TON of rules discussion directly from the Warhammer Community team. All this week I’ve been putting reaction videos on the FTN YouTube page. Please check them out if you haven’t already.

    Hey everyone,

The first part of the show has us really getting deep with the Psychic, Morale and Shooting phase. Things that we have taken for granted for a long time are changing. We think they are changing for the better but we know not everyone agrees. If you are in that camp hopefully we can change your mind.

The second part of the show we talk about what to do while you’re waiting for 8th edition. For some of those hobby projects that always take a back burner, it may be their time! This can be sprucing up your terrain, re-basing an army or completely assembling your silver tower bad guys. There is no time like this lag between editions. Folks in my area have been playing a LOT of Shadow War.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there! Registration is also open of the American Team Championship.

This week we discuss hobby projects in general. We’ll be back next week with hobby techniques keying off what we discussed in this (and the last episode). We’ll be talking about quick terrain tips and stuff you can do to your figs in the meantime.

    FTN Episode 189 – New Warhammer 40k – 8th Edition – More Info! Apr 27, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

The guys at GW have been dropping daily teasers for the upcoming edition of Warhammer 40k. This has us going crazy. The game has needed an overhaul of this scale for a couple of editions and we are finally seeing it happen!

    Hey folks,

In the first segment Chris, Adam, and Paul talk about the new stat lines that appeared for Space Marines. Movement, Wounds and Saves are going to be HUGE factors in 8th. I am a big fan of seeing the movement stat return and having ‘who charges first’ be something people may be concerned about. Its a tactical element of the game that has long been forgotten.

Paul sits down with Warboss Dugg from Tablewar. This guy is a daemon on the table and no matter what the edition he has always remained competitive. He secured a spot in the sweet 16 at Adepticon for the 4th time. It was great to sit down with him and discuss how he did it. He took a Gladius but WHY he did it and how he was successful is pretty interesting. He discusses leagues and the competitive scene in the Sol Cal area.

After the spot with Dugg we get back to that sweet sweet 8th edition information from the GW Community team. With only 3 weapons ‘spoiled’ it opens up a treasure trove of discussion and theory crafting about what we can expect. Will we see a need to keep things like Instant Death in the game? Sure… Destoryer weapons may be going away but if they are neg 15 to save what would be the difference? What do you guys think?

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there! Registration is also open of the American Team Championship.

We talk about paint from the ground up today for EXTREME Weathering. There are a couple of products on the market right now that make this incredibly drastic looking job easy as 1-2-3. We discuss chipping mediums today.

    FTN Episode 188 – Warhammer 40,000 8th Edition – What We Know So Far Apr 22, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We, in the States, woke up to a blast of news from Games Workshop. 8th Edition is on the way and the company released a surprising amount of information. Here is our initial reactions and a little more explanation of what we think we know so far. Hear more reactions on twitter @warmaster_tpm and the huge amount of folks posting there this morning after the news hit.

    Hey guys,

A brand new site debuted today for Warhammer 40,000. We can see a break down of all the current and NEW factions. I didn’t expect this to be so fleshed out this far in advance of the release. You are gonna want to check this out. Check out that Faction section for sure.

The full Warhammer 40k 8th FAQ, as we know it so far can be found here. It is light on specifics but BIG on information and enthusiasm.

If you don’t subscribe to the Warhammer Community page, please do. They promise daily content for all of their core games. So far this has included everything all the way up to free rules with a lot more to come.

FTN Episode 187 – Shadow War on the Brain and THREE Special Guests! Apr 14, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

This is a jam packed episode and almost two hours long! We continue with our Shadow War and Adpeticon coverage. Shadow War is a totally different game than some of you may be familiar with. It is totally worth a look..

    Yo,

The first part of the show Paul is joined by Reece from Frontline Gaming and Signals from the Frontline. We are pretty jazzed to talk about something new coming to the ITC Rankings – HOBBY SCORES! Yep… this is no easy task but there a lot of motivated people behind making this work. It is going to give a whole different crew of people a reason to get out and play in some of these events. I can’t wait! Who is gonna be the best Blood Angels?!

In the second part of the show we focus on the particulars of Shadow War Armageddon a little more than we did last week. The points for things seem alien and WAY inflated from what we’re used to for 40k but this helps make it feel like a totally different game. I like that. I think its an excuse to put even more time and attention into every model. This is the perfect distraction while we hold tight waiting for new things to come later this year…. A ton of factions are up for free to download on the Warhammer Community site and more are on the way!

About an hour in: Our second special guest this week is none other than Dave Nordquist from Mini Wargaming. Dave is great. He was an absolute pleasure to meet in Chicago and we are honored to have him on our show. He talks about the origins of Mini Wargaming, his past lives and the secrets to MWG’s success.

Our third guest is Matthias Weeks from Adepticon. He is one of the primary forces behind this amazing convention experience. I’ve know Matt for a bunch of years now and he has always remained grounded and focused on being a true destination event for gamers and con goers. The Adepticon folks put on a stellar show. Please consider putting it on your list, if it isn’t already.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there!

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. Their new mats are now hot off the presses and getting ready to be shipped. If you hit them up SOON you may still be able to get their shipping discounts and introductory pricing. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive.

We get real narrow with our topic today. It’s about when to flock.. and when to tuft. We manage to sneak in some other tips during this segment but the choice of what to use for your bases has a lot to do with the height of the model and the overall effect you’re shooting for.

FTN Age of Sigmar Episode 1 – First Show 100% (97.5%) about Age of Sigmar Apr 08, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Sigmar has really taken off and we wanted to talk about it! It’s what we do… This first episode takes a look at Warhammer Age of Sigmar in general and then we get a little deeper into the new Stormcast Eternals book. We also get to chat with the author of Warscroll Builder. Fun times!

    GUYS!

I know that not everyone who subscribes to this show plays Age of Sigmar. I hope you’ll be ok with this being part of our show rotation. It will likely only be every 4-6 weeks and it will absolutely not replace the 40k show – even on the weeks we release both episodes.

The Sigmar tournament at Adepticon went from 40 players last year to over 100 this year. More and more people are playing this great game. I think we can all also see the writing on the wall that some of the concepts from this gem are going to make it over to 40k.

We kick off the show with a bit of Sigmar talk ‘in general’ before getting into the new Stormcast’s specifically. I know nothing about these guys so it was fun to ask questions and let the experts talk.

For the last couple of weeks I’ve focused on painting Sylvaneth – these are great models. They are so wonderfully detailed and have been a joy to put paint on.

The second part of the show Paul is joined by Tony Pacheco, the author of Warscroll Builder on scrollbuilder.com. This is an awesome web based tool for daydreaming about lists you may want to build in the future. It will soon be incorporated into the main GW Community page. Wow!

We’ll be getting back in touch with Tony as things develop on that front. It was awesome to hear that he is just as much of a fanboy about this sort of stuff as we are. He and his crew have been holding AoS down on the west coast.
