FTN Episode 186 – Shadow War: Armageddon – Looking at the Future? Apr 07, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Shadow War: Armageddon is flying off the shelves and eBay is on fire with people trying to get top dollar with their copies.. Worry not! GW plans to make the rules a lot more accessible soon.

    Hey guys,

This game gives us a TON more to do with the figures we love by taking us all the way back to just about 2nd edition Warhammer 40k. Shadow War is part action movie, part role-playing game and 100% all skirmish based combat.

The interesting thing here with these ‘throw back’ rules is that things like the weapons and armor save interactions sounds a lot like what the GW design studio revealed to us recently on the last show and at the Adepticon preview.

We blend our talk about this exciting release with our hopes for the future of 40k. We are extremely optimistic about any changes coming our way. Games like Shadow War gives us a chance to stop and smell the roses a bit and appreciate what we have right now. This game is being heavily supported by the Warhammer Community page. If you haven’t already it is worth checking it out.

Please remember the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there!

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They just launched their new robot themed table mats and terrain. These look amazing together. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive.

Today’s finishing moves segment is a brief reminder to remember all the tricks and don’t give up… You know some of this magic only takes a few more minutes of your time – do it while you are still sitting in the painting chair. You will thank yourself later.

FTN Bonus Episode 22 – Games Workshop Design Studio Interview! Apr 01, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Paul sits down with a couple of guys from the Games Workshop Design Studio for a live chat at Adpeticon. We talk about the upcoming game, Shadespire, and the future of Warhammer 40k!

    Hey hey,

This is part of our ongoing coverage from Adpeticon 2017. Paul gets to chat with Eddie Eccles from the GW community team, Jes Bickham and Robbin Cruddace from the GW rules design team.

Obviously, there is only so much they can reveal in this chat but they covered some pretty interesting things during their studio preview and we get to expound on them a little more here.

You can tell these guys are excited about the new things coming down the pipe and it was an absolute joy speaking with them. I try to ask the hard questions – like about Squats and game balance but this ends up being a great chat about the current state of things and the wonderful things to come.

Mr. Bickham helped jump-start the new White Dwarf magazine and I just had to shake his hand. This magazine is better than it ever has been, if you aren’t already a regular subscriber please check it out.

Please let us know what you think!

FTN Episode 185 – Adepticon Recap and Duncan Rhodes! Mar 30, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Paul is back from Adepticon and the normal crew is back to recording. There is a lot of additional coverage on the FTN facebook and from @warmaster_tpm on twitter.

    Hey all,

In this episode we go a little more in detail about what we know from the GW studio preview at Adpeticon. The crew weighs in on what we think about the upcoming changes and how we think it will effect the game.

Paul talks a little bit about his experience at the 4 man team tournament and team Wrong Way Kids bringing down 4th place over all and BEST SPORTS in this highly competitive event.

We also get a little more in depth about everything we know so far about Shadespire! This game doesn’t come out for months so there isn’t a ton we know or can say but it looks to be fast paced, competitive, and have huge replay potential.

Please check out and support the Gulf Coast Wargaming Alliance Grand Tournament, June 3rd-4th 2017. These are a great group of guys. We’re gonna be there!

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They just launched their new robot themed table mats and terrain. These look amazing together. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive.

After the main segment of the show Paul is joined by Duncan Rhodes and Roger Yates from the Warhammer TV crew. After an interview segment with them Duncan tells us how he paints Eyes on his character models. He is every bit as enthusiastic in person and you don’t want to miss this.

    FTN Episode 184 – A mini Episode – GW Design Studio News and more… Mar 29, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Games Workshop blew us away.. like out of our seats at Adpeticon this year during their design studio preview..We got the briefest tidbit of what we may see in the future. There is a lot of additional coverage on the FTN facebook and from @warmaster_tpm on twitter. This is a mini episode – a LOT more will come later this week.

    Hey guys,

We start this short show off with Paul, Captain Morgan and Troopsmash getting the goods on the GW design studio preview. This was a sold out event where they gave a slight preview of some things we may be able to expect in the future for 40k and Age of Sigmar. At the end of it we even got to see the brand new game – Shadespire! Its not going to be out for a long time so it was so neat that we got to see it. This episode was recorded over the course of a few days at the convention with other folks in the room, still… it’s a fun show.

Adepticon has tons of vendors in attendance. Paul is lucky enough to catch up with Shapeways and Dicehead.com. The back part of the show is two mini spots with them. Like I said, this episode is going to be short but believe when I say this.. you WILL want to tune in later this week for more content recorded at Adepticon.

Shadespire is said to be focused on matched play and organized play and from what we can tell GW is committed to that. It is part deckbuilder, part mini combat and 100% competitive. Matches play quickly.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They just launched their new robot themed table mats and terrain. These look amazing together. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive. It’s neat having FLG on this week to talk about this themselves.

There is no hobby segment in this show but here is a spoiler… the next Finishing Moves segment you hear on FTN will be delivered by the myth… the legend… Duncan Rhodes.

    FTN Episode 183 – The SQUATS are back – Just Kidding… Mar 17, 2017
    Show notes

    FTN small square

The Squats aren’t back but GW sure is throwing all those old fans a bone with their upcoming Age of Sigmar release. Adepticon is on the horizon too, expect a lot of coverage on the FTN facebook and from @warmaster_tpm on twitter.

    Hey guys,

We go super fanboy over the news coming out of GAMA this week. We touch mostly on GW stuff but we also mention the cool new Song of Fire and Ice battle game from Cool Mini or Not.

Games Workshop unveiled two new upcoming boxed games this week, Shadow War: Armageddon for 40k and Warhammer: Shadespire for Age of Sigmar. I think we called it Shadowspire in the show so please forgive us.

Shadespire is said to be focused on matched play and organized play. Color me interested… I can’t wait to hear more about these products. We talk just a little bit about the new dwarf faction for AoS too. Man… this has been a good week.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They just launched their new robot themed table mats and terrain. These look amazing together. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive. It’s neat having FLG on this week to talk about this themselves.

The hobby segment this week is about getting some unique looks on metallics. You can use shades and washes to completely change the tint of silvers almost like magic.. or alchemy.. In any case, it can really help some of your character models or line troops to stand out from the rest when you create a unique color for them.

FTN Episode 182 – Player Spotlight and General Shenanigans Mar 10, 2017
    Show notes

FTN small squareWe shine a light on Geoff “@iNcontroLTV” Robinson this episode before getting down with our brand of 40k talk with Reece Robbins from Frontline Gaming.

    Yo,

Captain Morgan is out in Cali hanging out with the Frontline crew this week and we were happy to have Reece join us for our normal recording.

After a quick intro Paul sits down with Geoff Robinson for a player spotlight. Geoff is a serious competitor on the tournament scene but his talents and interest stretch well past Warhammer 40k. If you like general geek talk (and let’s be honest.. that’s why you’re here) I think you’re gonna like this. Geoff has a great approach to the game and life in general.

After the spotlight we talk a little bit about what we hope may happen after the Gathering Storm is over and we finally get to the ‘Storm.’ Games Workshop has delivered some massive combo punches and we aren’t even through the first quarter of 2017!

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They just launched their new robot themed table mats and terrain. These look amazing together. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive. It’s neat having FLG on this week to talk about this themselves.

We were short on time this week so this tip is quick and decisive.. It’s all about adding that last little touch to any fire you want to put on a miniature. We hope you enjoy it.

FTN Episode 181 – Roboute Guilliman is BACK, Gathering Storm III Review Mar 04, 2017
    Show notes

FTN small squareThis is a JAM PACKED episode. We start things off talking about the big blue man himself Roboute Guilliman. You don’t want to miss this!

    Hey Guys,

The loyalist get their first Primarch in 40k in the form of a giant blue monster! This guy is a combat beast with stats to match. He is going to struggle a bit getting in to combat but once he gets there… ohh baby, he is going to come out on top.

His weapons combine into a single piece of wargaer that allows him to roll on the D chart when he rolls a 6 to hit. He also has Precision Strikes, this means he is able to apply the D exactly where he wants it!

In the middle of the show I talk with Andrew Standiferd about his victory at the LVO on the Age of Sigmar side. We get inside his head a bit. He’s great to talk to and I hope you enjoy it.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They just launched their new robot themed table mats and terrain. These look amazing together. Please check them out, even if you already have a game mat. Their new styles are very impressive.

The hobby segment is neat talk about the color where and color theory. It sounds a bit boring to ‘think about’ but there is a ton of science behind the principal. This is the kind of knowledge that can up your game quite a bit.

FTN Episode 180 – Are Harlequins Good Again? Were they Ever? Feb 24, 2017
    Show notes

FTN small squareI ask the guys this week to talk about the Gathering Storm Book II specifically for us to determine if it gave Harlequins what they need to be competitive outside of the Reborn Warhost Detachment.

    Hey Everyone,

I am long time fan of Harlequins. They were my first army. I remember going to the game store and asking if they had any Eldar. They said no but they did have this box of Harlequins that were almost Eldar. I bought them and I was hooked.

This was back in the day when you could field 15,000 points with just a handful of models. The Harlequins didn’t disappoint and they were exactly what I needed to match up against my buddies.

I don’t want to spoil the episode but we do dissect the Soulburst – Strength from Death – rule. Sadly, I don’t think the Harlequins are going to return to their ancient glory in the Reborn Warhost but the new HQ models this books gives them may help them bring some new life to the humble Combined Arms Detachment.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They have a ton of good stuff coming out over the next few month and we are excited to be a part of helping them promote it and their events.

Our hobby talk is intertwined with the show this week but please check out Frontline and their AWESOME new range of mats. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – these mats are the easiest and best way to pro up your gaming table. Your figures really do glide across the surface and your friends will be impressed.

FTN Episode 179 – Bring on the Dancing Horses Feb 17, 2017
    Show notes

FTN small squareThis is a packed episode and not a ton of it is with 40k… I know, we’re a 40k show! We lead off with Finishing Moves, then we ramble a bit before Andrew brings us back to talk about his latest Army List brew. We get a great interview with Cool Mini or Not for the second part of the show. Check it out!

    Yo Guys,

We take a pretty fresh look at what stats mean to 40k and where you can find them in hard to see places. Specifically we compare a flesh hound of Khorne with a Rough Rider from the IG. Crazy right? Maybe not… The jury is still out for me but it made for a neat discussion.

There is a brief interlude where Paul pretty much just whines about 40k art print sizes but we move past it pretty quickly..

The back part of the show Troop and Paul get to speak with Michael Shinall from Cool Mini or Not. He talks to us about all the cool things they have going on right now and in the very near future. Their innovative rules design and clever sculpts are great. If you haven’t checked out their site in a while it is worth it. They make fun games, no two ways about it.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They have a ton of good stuff coming out over the next few month and we are excited to be a part of helping them promote it and their events.

We ran out of time this week for the finishing moves but don’t worry! It will be back double next week but please check out our segment sponsor in the meantime. These guys are killing it in all aspects of our hobby.

FTN Episode 178 – Horus Heresy Inferno Spectacular Feb 09, 2017
    Show notes

FTN small squareTo us it seems like Inferno has been teased for way too long before we got to see the pages. It was well worth the wait.

    Hey hey,

The Las Vegas Open went down over the weekend and our man Captain Morgan was on the scene as both a player on the 30k side and a judge on the 40k side for day one. We spend a few minutes getting his take on this massively awesome event.

Its been way too long since we’ve talked about 30k stuff on the show. With that in mind we get a deluge of news from the Horus Heresy Weekender. This episode is primarily about the Sisters of Silence, Custodes and Space Wolves. You can find some of the stuff up for pre-order here.

Forge World and Games Workshop created two drastically different looking Imperial Armies. This is going to really alter the look of the 30k landscape. To me, this is pretty dern cool since HH is a lot of recently Imperial and Imperial forces fighting each other. To someone just passing by the table it may look a little too generic. No MORE! We are impressed.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They have a ton of good stuff coming out over the next few month and we are excited to be a part of helping them promote it and their events.
