Feeling Things with Amy & Kat

Feeling Things with Amy & Kat is a podcast for anyone who’s ever had feelings—or wants to. Hosted by Amy Brown and therapist Kat Van Buren, this is a space where nothing is off-limits. From deep reflections on childhood to pop culture obsessions to what’s happening in the world, all feelings deserve a seat at the table—big, small, awkward, joyful, confusing, and everything in between. At its core, it’s real friends having real conversations about real feelings. Some episodes go deep, some stay light, but all are rooted in curiosity, honesty, and connection. In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause… and feel things.

4 Things With Amy's Psychic Cousin: The Gift of Time. Hospice Care. Numerology & Amy's Birthday. Sending Love to Haiti. Mar 17, 2022
    Show notes

Amy brought her cousin, Amanda Rieger Green, on for a special birthday episode since Amy turns 41 tomorrow on 3-18 {these numbers have meaning and Amanda breaks it all down for us, as she uses her abilities as a numerologist and astrologer alongside her precognitive & intuitive gifts with clients.} Amanda is also known as "Amy's Psychic Cousin" on the Bobby Bones Show, so some of you might already be familiar with her. Before they get into numerology & Amy's birthday, they talk about 'THE GIFT OF TIME' and what that means for them as Amanda's mom has just entered the hospice phase of her cancer journey. Making space for others and others making space for you is so important! You also need to make sure you're making space for yourself {it's okay to focus on you - which is exactly why Amy's going away alone for her birthday weekend!!!} They wrap up their conversation talking about Amy's birthday wish of sending some love to the orphanage in Haiti where her kids lived for many years. Some concerns have popped up this month regarding security, water, education and certain needs for a few of the kids needs {i.e. new wheelchairs}, so all #PIMPINJOY items and all ESPWA + 4 THINGS items are supporting this effort...all proceeds...per usual!

TheShopForward.com/amy will take you to all the items supporting the orphanage!

Helping Haiti. Snoop Dogg. Feeling Warm. Self Tanner. ADHD. Working Out. Stress & Anxiety. Bookmarking on Insta. Fancy Toaster Talk. (5th Thing) Mar 15, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to the '5th Thing' with Amy & Kat!! They kicked it off talking about some needs at the orphanage in Haiti that Amy’s kids used to live at & that the Bobby Bones Show is working on a plan to help (so details to come on that later this week!). Amy and Kat then started talking about Stevenson’s (Amy’s son) new obsession: Snoop Dogg’s music!! Amy obviously supports this since Snoop is from her childhood and it’s fun to listen to! They got an email from a listener named Stacy that led into talking about reviews of the podcast/feedback + feeling warm around people (what people make you feel warm???), but they also discussed feeling warm in your pants (iykyk). Next email was from Crystal who asked 3 questions regarding self tanner, ADHD, and getting back into working out! They wrapped up talking about stress or anxiety that people might be feeling right now, an instagram bookmark tutorial, and the fancy toaster that Amy was gifted.

Thank you licensed therapist, Kat Defatta, for joining us with her wisdom. You can find her on Instagram: @Kat.Defatta + @YouNeedTherapyPodcast.

    Show notes

This episode is 4 out of 4 with Michelle Pillepich {@MichellePillepichNutrition}, who joined us for an ‘Outweigh Residency’ of sorts…if you missed the other episodes with her…go check them out! In this fourth episode, Amy shared some of her personal story and how denying a binge could look like restricting {Amy also references ‘Brain Over Binge’ - a book she credits to kick-starting her recovery!} Michelle talked about permission and choice: "You always have the option to do these behaviors." Binging & restricting behaviors might get passed on to your kids…so remember children are watching us and we want to break the disordered eating/eating disorder cycle! Michelle wrapped up the chat talking about keeping "off limit foods" in the pantry and making sure you have them still available…could keep you from binging on them!

    Show notes

Welcome to the '5th Thing' with Amy & Kat!! After some Ukraine info & support updates…they kicked things off with some @elarroyo_atx sign quotes (always the best when you need a good laugh) which led to talking about early morning meet ups on Saturdays and how media consumption is totally different for “kids these days”. Amy had to explain to Kat how a pager used to work back in the day! First email they got into is from Sarah, who shared ‘4 things’ she wanted Amy & Kat to know, and that led to conversation about several things (including Amy’s missing Texas A&M ring, gratitude journaling, how Kat makes notes in her phone for things she’s thankful for, and ‘ The Doggie Lama’!) Next email is from Michelle, who shared a little bit about her ‘war with food’ and how she’s working to have a better relationship with it. Amy talked about how she eliminated dairy in her disordered eating days and now that she’s allowing it again, she is currently obsessed with sour cream! And more!!!!!

NEDA Week Q&A Covering: Overeaters Anonymous + Vyvanse for BED + What To Do When Stressed & Want To Engage In Eating Disorder Behavior Feb 26, 2022
    Show notes

It is 'National Eating Disorder Awareness' Week. NEDA Week helps spread awareness, reduces the stigma, and educates others about eating disorders, so Amy (@RadioAmy) sat down with Kat Defatta (@Kat.Defatta), a licensed therapist that specializes in eating disorders, to do just that by answering some questions on the topic. In this episode you will hear their thoughts (personally and professionally) on OA (overeaters anonymous), using Vyvanse for BED (binge eating disorder), and what to do when you are over stressed and want to engage in a maladaptive coping skill or eating disorder behavior. Both Amy and Kat want you to know that you are not alone and help is available. To spread that message we just have to start talking about it more. Visit NEDA.ORG to find more resources that can help guide you or a loved one on a path that can lead to a life of recovery.
