    Show notes

Leah Wyar was recruited as a young college graduate by Cosmopolitan, and since then she’s made her way to numerous top positions at other companies and magazines, such as Hearst. She currently holds the positions of SVP and General Manager at Dotdash, a company that includes brands like Byrdie and Brides.

Today, Leah shares her story. She talks about how she successfully climbed the corporate ladder by leading with kindness, understanding the psychology of team culture, and translating her skills from print to digital channels. She shares lessons she’s learned over the years, as well as the mantra that has inspired her throughout her career. She offers her best tips on getting noticed and promoted in the workplace, and she introduces the concept of calendar hygiene. She touches on her experience working at Hearst and what it taught her, and she shares how she tries to achieve a work-life balance raising three kids.

“What I could corely bring to them was what I was very honest about in the interview. And if you like me, you like me, and if you don’t, you don’t. But let’s know that up-front, because I’m never going to sell you a false version of myself.”

How We Grew Our Business - Learn about the Entreprenista League May 14, 2021
    Show notes

The key to our success in growing SocialFly was undoubtedly early networking. The power of a community of fellow entrepreneurs is invaluable. Unfortunately, it’s hard to network to scale; you can’t meet for coffee with everyone who reaches out. That’s why we started this podcast--to create a far-reaching, supportive network of Entreprenistas--and that’s why we’ve now created the Entreprenista League.

Today, we share the exciting news that the League is officially live! We talk about what it really means to network well, as well as the power of giving through networking. We tell you about everything you can get by joining, including one-on-one time with us, constructive feedback, access to input from countless women in business who are getting it done, and talks from the experts who helped us to grow our business. We share stories of women who have grown their businesses with the help of networking, and we mention a special offer plus founding member status for Entreprenistas who join before May 17.

“How can we help our connections? How can we help others? And in doing so, we realized that people also want to help you.”

Meditation and Dedication with Sarah McDevitt of Core May 10, 2021
    Show notes

After facing a period of anxiety at the start of a new demanding job, Sarah McDevitt discovered meditation and the transformative power it had in shifting her mindset and helping her cope with stress. This experience inspired her to launch Core, a personal meditation trainer that uses dynamic vibrations to help you stay focused.

Today, Sarah joins us to share her experience building Core. She talks about how shifting her mindset changed her fundraising experience and why a single thing won’t ever make or break a business. She discusses her background with meditation and shares how it helped her navigate a stressful time in her life. She shares how she deals with failure and what she believes it ultimately means. She shares how Core has implemented a work culture that encourages its employees to bring their whole self to work. She talks about why she reminds herself that, while she is the CEO of Core, Core does not represent her whole identity. She also discusses the importance of owning how you want to impact the world.

“One of the things I’ve learned is to be extremely direct about the ask at the end of a pitch. And it’s less like, ‘So, will you give us money?’ It’s more, ‘Are you going to join this journey?’”

    - Sarah McDevitt

Stephanie Cartin - How Positivity and Hope Overcame Infertility, Loss, and a Challenging Pregnancy Apr 19, 2021
    Show notes

As we all experience challenging times, one of the things we all need is a sense of hope and a reminder of the power of positive thinking.

Many of you may very well be aware of Stephanie Cartin’s experience with the challenges of infertility, pregnancy, loss, and the birth of her greatest gift and accomplishment, her daughter Mollie Hope. Even though she has shared some important aspects of that story on social media, in interviews, and even on this podcast, she has never told the full story in detail publicly before.

Along with extraordinary healthcare professionals, hope, and positive thinking, which were so important to the journey, she experienced, it seems fitting to share this story with you now---at a time when we all need to be reminded of what is possible.

In this special episode of Entreprenista, Stephanie shares the story with Randi Zinn, the founder of Beyond Mom, and the host of The Going Beyond podcast. Since Stephanie relied on information and encouragement from so many generous people, she is hopeful that hearing this conversation will in some way inspire, comfort, or inform you as well.

Reaching for Excellence with Bea Dixon of The Honey Pot Company Apr 12, 2021
    Show notes

Bea Dixon struggled with bacterial vaginosis for almost a year and went to all kinds of doctors and products to heal it. It wasn’t until she connected with her late grandmother, whom she had never met, in a dream that she found her cure. Her grandmother gave her a recipe on a piece of paper and told her to memorize it, and when Bea woke up and made the formula, she found it was the miracle product she had been looking for. This formula was the first product sold by her business, The Honey Pot Company.

Today, Bea joins us to share her experience. She emphasizes the importance of grit and focus, and she shares her experience raising venture capital, explaining why you don’t always need it. She talks about the value of going with the flow and why entrepreneurship is never as glamorous as it looks on social media. Bea shares her early challenges in growing the company and how her past experience taught her to juggle all of the jobs that come with being an entreprenista. SFE126 SocialFly Entreprenista From Bachelorette to Businesswoman with Ashley Iaconetti, TV and Social Media Personality

Ashley Iaconetti got her Masters from Syracuse in broadcasting, but when she was cast on The Bachelor back in 2015 she didn’t know the show would turn her into one of the OG Instagram influencers and give her an audience that she’s still growing. Today, she’s built a business around her social following of over a million engaged fans by sharing raw and authentic moments in her life. She also co-hosts two podcasts.

Today, she joins us to talk about why she thinks living with a relatable image has been the key to her success. She shares how she recorded a unique audition tape for the bachelor and how she felt when she got the acceptance call. She talks about how she started building her brand and growing her audience after leaving The Bachelor. She discusses why she steers clear of showing a curated and polished image of herself on social media, as well as why it’s beneficial to say yes to everything when you’re just starting out. She notes the importance of asking, no matter how far-fetched what you’re asking for seems. She shares why it’s okay to do things for free, and she discusses big life transitions that are coming up in the near future and what is next for both her and Jared.

“There are two rules I live by when it comes to business: early on, say yes to everything; and just ask.”
