Tweetable Quotes “So the main point about Warburg’s discovery is that it’s related to energy generation, which can have an effect on voltage. But it’s really not voltage, perse, it’s really energy generation that’s related to the cells.”(06:59) (Dr. Brian) “Electrical current and healing goes back to the 1700s. It was found that, if they injured a creature, the electrical stimulation that’s generated by the body at that sight of the injury is increased. And it’s actually increased in proportion to the amount of injury.”(08:42) (Dr. Brian) “Then Dr. Becker did some measurements with the skin of humans and other animals. He had discovered that there’s this electrical field that’s roughly parallel to the body’s nervous system. And, if there’s a problem or disturbance in the field, such as an injury, then it can stimulate the cells to start repairing.”(11:13) (Dr. Brian) “There’s a time in London where these two babies had lost their fingers and their fingers regenerated naturally. This goes back to this concept that the younger an organism is, the more healing regeneration that they have. So babies have the ability to have natural regeneration to some degree.”(12:49) (Dr. Brian) Resources Mentioned NCHS Links Mentioned NCHS Footer Powered by FullCast

I always grew up mispronouncing it and I still do kind of on purpose because it’s the way I used to pronounce it. ‘Quinoa,’ but I like to call it ‘KEN-O-WAH’.”(02:28) (Dr. Brian) “So one of the main issues why high sugar - unintended, so to speak - is that it causes something called AGES, or Advanced Glycation End Products. Now, these are fairly toxic. They’re caused by reactions between sugar and other types of proteins in your body and they are really high on the suspect list for causing some of these problems.”(04:48) (Dr. Brian) “I do want to make one comment about cancer. A lot of people aren’t aware of this. Cancer is also regulated by the immune system.”(06:09) (Dr. Brian) “Just to recap about the rice. If you cool the rice overnight and heat it up the next day and you’re concerned about your blood sugar, then that does help blunt the spike in your blood sugar.”(08:15) (Dr. Brian) Resources Mentioned NCHS Links Mentioned NCHS Footer Powered by FullCast

Tweetable Quotes “So the whole reason that blood sugar spikes when you eat different types of foods is because of the ease, or difficulty, that your body has digesting it.” (03:01) (Dr. Brian) “The longer it takes for your body to digest any type of carbohydrate, it’s gonna take longer for it to absorb. Therefore, the blood sugar is gonna be spread over a long period of time.” (05:10) (Dr. Brian) “It’s like little temporary short episodes of diabetes where the blood sugar spikes and then gets brought back down. But imagine if somebody is eating a lot of foods that cause a lot of blood sugar spikes. Those can be cumulative and add up and over time, even without diabetes, can cause some problems. So, we’re gonna talk about that.” (06:59) (Dr. Brian) “Even though you might be eating a high glycemic food, you can actually blunt the blood sugar response by combining it with a lower glycemic index, or GI, food.” (09:15) (Dr. Brian) Resources Mentioned NCHS Links Mentioned NCHS Footer Powered by FullCast

And there’s a reason people get into a ‘food coma’ at Thanksgiving, because turkey has a lot of tryptophan.”(09:02) (Dr. Brian) “So, I’m gonna tell you something that’s a very sobering reason to not make your bed. Do I have your attention now? There are these little critters called dust mites and they live better when your sheets are on your bed than when they are off. And the reason is because when your bed sheets are on it locks in moisture.”(12:03) (Dr. Brian) “How can dinner help you sleep or actually even hinder your sleep? Well, studies have shown that a high carb and low fat meal can actually worsen sleep versus a low carb, high fat meal.”(13:20) (Dr. Brian) “A warm bedroom is nice and cozy, I admit. But, alas, first let us pose the question, ‘Why is sleep even important?’ I mean sleep was so last year. It’s really not important anymore. Well, I’m kidding. Of course it’s really important. And there’s so many health benefits on so many levels.” (05:30) (Dr. Brian) “Let’s talk about two really good reasons that we need proper sleep. Number one is sleep keeps us mentally sharp. It’s really important for our brain and also helps with memory. Number two, lack of sleep increases the risk, in adults, of heart attacks and strokes.” (07:05) (Dr. Brian) “Caffeine’s in lots of things besides just coffee and tea; it’s in chocolate, sodas, energy drinks. And it can keep you up. So, when people are particularly sensitive to caffeine then even caffeine at noon can have an effect at nighttime.” (09:46) (Dr. Brian) “Most people sleep either belly or on their side. And, the issue with sleeping on your belly is that it causes your head to turn, and it can increase neck and back pain. Certainly that can interfere with getting a good night’s sleep.” (16:59) (Dr. Brian) “Snoring can also be associated with sleep apnea, which is where the breathing is effected to the point that there’s reduced oxygen. And that can really interfere with sleep.” (18:21) (Dr. Brian) “Washing your sheets can help you sleep better. Yes, that’s true and it’s been studied. But, they will also get other very serious - potentially life-threatening - symptoms, life difficulty breathing.”(02:32) (Dr. Brian) “If somebody’s gonna be having a runny nose from eating a food, and they don’t have any of the other symptoms, then I would say most likely it’s not a histamine or allergic reaction to the food. It could just be that the food is very spicy. And that’s a different type of reaction.
