Child Soldiers Special w/ Wayne Sharrocks - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #157 Jun 27, 2017

Show notes

Team 3W where you at? Three welcomes delivered to your doorstep as ever, as we straighten out the doormat and hoover the hallway to this week's Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip - it's episode 157! A heavy one at that, and certainly one that will hit home with a good few of you, or shine a light on some parts of the armed forces that perhaps you may not have been familiar with previously. Here to deliver such science is Wayne Sharrocks - film maker, public speaker and campaigner, but more importantly, he served in the British Army for a good seven years or so, and is therefore more than qualified to deliver the insider perspective on the armed forces and process of becoming a soldier from start to end.A big subject to tackle, an emotive and provocative one too, and Wayne and Pip don't mess around with this - it's a honest and frank discussion which hits upon the whole sphere of national defence, ranging from the reasons why one might sign up, the age of new recruits (and why currently that may not be such a wise choice), what the new recruit might face upon entry and how the internal hierarchy works, the journey to a warzone, what happens then, and being in the immediate vicinity of soldiers who make the ultimate sacrifice (which Wayne has experienced up close). This sets the tone and context for an inspiring and positive talk about whether or not this is right for most people, whether a younger recruit is in the correct frame of mind to engage in such a heavy and intensive process, and how interaction in civilian society can be a very real issue for those who have served and become so intimately involved with the armed forces and the framework within.A deeply interesting discussion, and Wayne shares his points of view, experience and wisdom articulately and honestly, which will leave you with much to consider and unpack. And certainly an insight into how some of the army slang works too... Spoiler: it's not safe for work.••••• WAYNE on TWITTER! – http://www.twitter.com/wsharrocks••••• WAYNE on INSTAGRAM! - https://instagram.com/waynesharrocks••••• WAYNE on YOUTUBE! - https://www.youtube.com/c/waynesharrocks••••• WAYNE'S WEBSITE! - http://www.waynesharrocks.com•••••••••• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER! - https://twitter.com/Scroobiuspipyo•••••••••• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM! - https://www.instagram.com/scroobiuspipyo•••••••••• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS – https://scroobiuspip.backstreetmerch.com•••••••••• FOLLOW AND ENJOY!!!

Goldie - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #156 Jun 20, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to YOU - and three times welcomed you are to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip, episode 156 at that! A proper filfy drum n' bass banger right here this week too as Pip is joined FINALLY after a long bout of scheduling and planning by the one and only, the Metalhead himself, the UK's national drum & bass treasure - Goldie!"The barbarians from within will raise their heads and rise the deities..." ...and that's one single quote from this absolutely ram packed and intense juggernaught rollercoaster of an episode, as Pip white-knuckles the railing and hold on for dear life as the whirlwind rolls through town and demolishes all in its path! The whirlwind being Goldie, that is. I'm sure you gathered that. Finding his home out in Phuket these days, the path has been rocky, full on, winding and incredible and Goldie has lived through it all - the raves, the graf days out in the Bronx, early days of techno, being a household name in what they used to call 'intelligent drum & bass' with his smash hit 'Inner City Life', a rugged divorce, heavy personal life events including the passing of his mother, and every single second underpinned by his unending appetite for his craft and music making. A fantastic and thrilling ride of an episode, which will make you want to dig out the back catalogue and reminisce over the past while waiting for his new album 'The Journey Man' to download... As Goldie put it himself; "There are no full stops in my life... At all..."Oh and wait for the American and German accents later on. Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 155 of the fresh, fly, wild and bold DISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST with Scroobius Pip! While he has many a tale to tell about the acting side of things, you'll love his rundown of his early life and growing up - a full on cinematic narrative in itself, combining boarding schools, smoking at an insanely early age, discovering acting instincts on stage through...

And that is an actual factual statement as Pip has been on each and every one, without fail, sometimes more than once a week at that. So it's actually MORE than 154 really... Another wonderful actor-based chat this week as Pip sits down with one of Liverpool's finest Mr NEIL FITZMAURICE, actor, comedian, writer and more!Neil and Pip find themselves working alongside one another currently on a new film called 'Walk Like A Panther' (which has been announced so this can be referred to by name!), and make use of the canteen on-set to have a full on, broad-ranging and hugely entertaining discussion covering the whole lot - politics and the current electoral situation, the Hillsborough tragedy which hit Neil very personally and comprehensively in a number of ways, his upbringing and early life where his playwright seeds were sewn, right up to his acting career which found...

Sofia is currently all over the place (as Pip witnessed via the medium of the good old American billboard) with her new blockbuster 'The Mummy' on release (co-starring some fella whose first name is Tom, that's all the info we have at this point), but you may well know her from her varied work in 'Star Trek', 'Kingsman', and killing it in an...

Living Room Spoken Word - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #152 May 23, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 152 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! In a slight alteration to the usual proceedings to which we have all become so accustomed, the guest this week is SCROOBIUS PIP his goddamn self!Working with the formula of such Speech Development Records releases such as 'At Home With Polar' (Polarbear) or 'At Home With Rob' (Rob Auton), Pip sat down in his temporary residence up in Los Angeles and recorded a selection of his poems read from his book 'Poetry In (e)Motion', the graphic poetry novel released all the way back in 2010. Pip's been crazy busy with all manner of podcast and acting related activity of late, over the past couple of years in fact, so this is a very cool opportunity to sit in with your host and indulge in some non 'Ask Pip' episode company for a change! No spoilers as to what you'll be treated to here, but it's a fantastic episode and a different one to usual. It's a goody for the original Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip heads, the solo Pip...

Show notes

Welcome welcome welcome to episode 151 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Very happy to have you aboard. This week is a straight up New Yorican banger, as Pip is joined by the infamous, the notorious, the Fun Lovin' Criminal himself Mister Huey Morgan!A long awaited one right here, as Pip has forged a friendship with Huey over the years so a chat was always on the cards between these two. From his days misbehaving in New York back in the day (now currently causing havoc in Somerset!), to joining the Marines and channeling his inner aggression into more positive areas, to bartending and setting up a band which would later lead to an illustrious music career, all peppered with real life madness - living through 9/11, a standoff with a Hanson member (and close relation), and that appearance on Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Huey is a powerful presence in the music industry and whether you've been down since Fun Lovin' Criminals or picked up on him through his 6 Music show, you'll get a lot out...
