Live In Dublin (Part 1/2) - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #176 Nov 08, 2017
    Show notes

WELCOME! Welcome! Ahhhhh go on then - another welcome upon you for this is the DISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST with Scroobius Pip and we do NOT give less than three welcomes, ever. You know this by now. So with this in mind, tripley welcome as you are, here is the long awaited EPISODE 176, recorded live at the Tivoli in Dublin!

TONS to enjoy in this two parter, which we kick off here with a lovely Pip monologue which may add an exciting - dare I say 'sexy'? - new layer to his character (involving chairs - all you need to know), after which along comes former DPP guest Blindboy of The Rubberbandits to drizzle the podcast with his luxurious Limerick accent and nuggets of wisdom, and no sooner has Blindboy left the stage, BAM - Pip is joined by his good old mates Chris and Stu of Hardcore Listing and the DrunkCasts! Not drunk just yet - but bear with them, they'll show you what's what in their own episode of Hardcore Listing (which would serve as an ideal accompaniment to this rather more sober two parter). So much covered here - from Blindboy's reflections on having written a book ('The Gospel According To Blindboy'), the 'existential malaise' of releasing art, podcasts and Netflix, to Chris and Stu's catchup and a nice little tale involving Stu and James Buckley from 'Inbetweeners' - much to unwrap and enjoy. Stay tuned for part 2 eh!

    S. Craig Zahler - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #175 Nov 01, 2017
    Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE of the ruffest, tuffest podcast in the known and unknown multiverse (zero exaggeration) - the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Thank you for tuning in! An equally ruff and tuff guest right here on this episode, as Pip is joined by the multi-talented musician/writer/director S. Craig Zahler!

You may know him from the rugged Western 'Bone Tomahawk', or from his upcoming release 'Brawl In Cell Block 99', or maybe indeed from his illustrious alternate careers paths which weave between being a prolific novelist, screenwriter and musician (in bands Realmbuilder and Charnel Valley). However you've been acquainted with the man, you're about become even more so, as Pip chats heavy with him about the art of cinema, the filming and staging of a realistic fight scene, his own musical reward system while writing, how his films are positioned between arthouse and grindhouse, and how his film titles would be considered overly descriptive by today's standards. You'll also find out the original title for 'Brawl In Cell Block 99'! So there's a good amount of trivia to be enjoyed too. Awesome chat, and the perfect companion to any of his previous work, but definitely one to pair with the viewing of '...Cell Block'. Enjoy!

Armando Iannucci - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #174 Oct 24, 2017
    Show notes

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Wonderful to have you on board, and it goes without saying, thank you much for tuning in. More fire for you this week, as is the standard, by way of comic and satire writer/producer (and everything else) Armando Iannucci!

Responsible for an insane amount of some of the greatest UK comedy since the 90's, including the writing and production of 'The Day Today' which spawned Alan Partridge and the Partridge multiverse, 'The Thick Of It', 'Time Trumpet', and US based 'Veep', Armando is clearly a titan of the game. With his new production 'The Death Of Stalin' (in cinemas NOW!), he's been grinding it out on the media promo run, but is sharp as a katana as he sits down with Pip for a nice long chat covering all the necessary bases and loads more that you'd hope to hear about, including said promo run grind and the madness of it all, especially seeing your own film countless times, being mindful of not using the victims of the subject of his film for comedy and finding that material from many various other sources, social media and how the echo chamber is reinforced and debate is fading, how the film draws parallels with today's US presidency even though it was filmed months before Trump's election win, and how to successfully wrangle an all star cast in order to promote efficiency on set. Tons more obviously but yeah, super entertaining and a must for Armando fans and those who appreciate the craft of writing and production. Get into it!

Russell Howard - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #173 Oct 17, 2017
    Show notes

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Thank you for tuning in and opting to enrich your Wednesday's listening choices - you shan't regret it. Bigups of the highest order. Another smash episode for your DPP enjoyment - this week's show is pure UK comedy goodness from a true great - yes indeed, it's Russell Howard!

Powerful chat goodness right here from the fellas, getting right into it from beginning to end with only the briefest of pauses for some dog wrangling and cup of tea making. Keeping the conversation effortlessly diverse, Pip and Russell keep it moving in fine fashion touching on everything from Russell kicking off his huge standup shows with one of Dan and Pip's songs, the emotive issue of self harm among young women and how to address it and raise attention to it in comic parameters, being a certified 'Weird Crush' (congratulations...?), how to take your audience with you through perhaps more serious subject matter without losing them along the way (which requires the deftest of hands), intelligence, awareness, good deeds, social media, UK politics (and worldwide, of course, the obvious weirdness of Madame Tussauds, tied up nicely with some in depth explanation on his various TV shows - more currently, 'The Russell Howard Hour', on Sky1. A truly positive and perfectly balanced conversation, branching out to some rich areas of interest for certain - you'll enjoy this one, get on board!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A pleasure to have you on board. Welcome thricely to listeners long term (Team 3W) and new skool, consider yourselves all tripley welcomed. So let's crack this one open eh? A blockbuster of an episode this week, as Pip sits down for a face to face chat with pure acting royalty Michael Fassbender!Far from the a short 3 minute press-junket soundbite interview, Pip has some quality real life facetime with Michael, who is (at the time of this podcast release) out there grinding on the promo for his new film 'The Snowman', directed by Tomas Alfredson and adapted from the novel by Jo Nesbø. A wonderful and warm chat, as we discover what Michael has been doing in the past year (racing Ferraris and surfing), but also get deep into the whole business - how he was born in Germany and was subsequently moved to Ireland at 2, his love of travel and how the acting profession broadens that experience hugely, how his career path could have branched off into an entirely alternate universe, and all manner of satisfying, filling movie gossip and insider knowledge. Helen Chamberlain - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #171 Oct 03, 2017
    Show notes

Welcome welcome welcome to episode ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ONE of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Thank you for tuning in, as always - your attention shall be rewarded handsomely, as is the DPP standard. A real lovely one this week as Pip properly catches up with his old mate and TV presenting legend Helen Chamberlain!"No-one knows if I jumped of if I was pushed..."Of course MANY of you will be well acquainted with Helen from her epic and heroic stint on Soccer AM (and will naturally still be heartbroken by her absence there), but to those of you who are unfamiliar - and those of you who know her solely from Soccer AM - this is a true breakdown of her career and how every step along the way has "accidentally" led to the next. From her current position looking after a seemingly unending crew of animals on her farm (rescue dogs - which you will hear from, alpacas, llamas, boars, ponies, horses, chickens and for sure there are more than that), which was preceded by her run on the chaotic and awesome and also very zoo-like Soccer AM (which changed and influenced the TV game in huge ways), she has been sports and animal-adjacent for a good portion of said career. But as you will hear, she has always landed on her feet on top of the game and won the hearts of those around her. Oh and she will mess you up good at poker too. Believe. Get to know and love Helen Chamberlain! Hugo White of The Maccabees - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #170 Sep 26, 2017
    Show notes

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome! To what? Come on now. You know what it is. You are now tuned into the ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTIETH episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! As custom dictates, it's another smash, and another long overdue meeting at that - please tripley welcome Hugo White of The Maccabees! (aka Pip's new/long time best mate!)Since destroying their recent farewell gig schedule, The Maccabees have been exploring all manner of individual and collaborative paths - it was an extremely heavy, emotional time but has left them with a world of creativity open to them. Hugo has made the absolute most of this, with the Maccas studio leaving an open door to him and his ideas, and here you can hear him relate to Pip (and YOU!) how his world has changed since the amiable disbanding. It's fascinating to hear he and Pip exchange notes on how long it takes to make songs, how these songs get tightened up to perfection in the touring process long after the album's release, fashioning a studio from a laptop to a fully furnished elaborate ordeal, daytime radio play and what that means exactly, the Brighton scene, how Hugo and his brother have become ambassadors of the MS Society, all underpinned by Pip's long running mantra which should be carved in stone somewhere - "it's not the gigs we get paid for, it's everything else..." - travel, inconvenience, all that... And you'll hear everything else all of that entails of course...Get involved! I'm sure Pip will dig out a childhood photo of him, Kate Nash, Hugo White, Adele and Jack Penate in playschool at some point too - right Pip?••••• HUGO on TWITTER! - https://twitter.com/hugowhitenoise••••• HUGO on INSTAGRAM! - https://www.instagram.com/hugowhitenoise••••• THE MACCABEES! - www.themaccabees.co.uk/••••• THE MS SOCIETY - https://www.mssociety.org.uk/•••••••••• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER! - https://twitter.com/Scroobiuspipyo•••••••••• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM! - https://www.instagram.com/scroobiuspipyo•••••••••• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS – https://scroobiuspip.backstreetmerch.com•••••••••• FOLLOW AND ENJOY!!!

Souad Mekhennet - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #169 Sep 19, 2017
    Show notes

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip, episode 169 at that! They are racking up aren't they... My my my... You may have heard Pip hyping this one up for a minute, and quite rightly so - ladies and gentlemen, please welcome journalist, author, writer, Souad Mekhennet!A huge episode here, as Pip sits down with Souad for a nice good while to really get into her own story... And what a deep, heavy and truly daring life she has led, from beginning to present day - hear her recall some chills-inducing tales and truly unique meetings, from getting in deep into situations with Isis commanders, her interview with 'Jihadi John', and her career covering all manner of terrorist activities over the years, and SO much more, made all the more fascinating due to her being Muslim and female, which positions her uniquely for her line of writing and interviewing. It's also fascinating hearing her thoughts on what creates a perfect situation for men to become radicalised, and how it can mainly stem from a broken family life. This is an absolutely gripping conversation, to which this writeup would never do justice, and it's a wonderful commentary companion to her book 'I Was Told To Come Alone', which you should (and I'm sure will) snap up at your nearest convenience. Will Poulter - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #167 Sep 05, 2017
    Show notes

A triple welcome upon you to this, the 167th episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A very merry Wednesday to you all (assuming you are the Team 3W first responders - if that's not the case, a very merry whatever day it is). A huge one this week, as Pip is joined by young acting heavyweight Will Poulter! In the midst of his current promo run for Kathryn Bigelow's 'Detroit', Will takes time to sit down with Pip for a long overdue chat covering - as you will have come to expect from the DPP - a crazy large number of bases... From the issues raised in portraying a violently racist policeman in 'Detroit' (and the poignancy of the film itself), a powerful back and forth is triggered with Pip and Will, which is the beauty of films like this and how an open discussion can be had which leads into so much more besides - race, politics, society, it's all here. On top of that, you'll hear his tale from the very early days back in 'School Of Comedy' and how his young foot in the acting world's door gave him the necessary inspiration for a full on career, Will drops some gems from his unique perspective on his experience with acting and his ascent from those younger days right up to 'Son Of Rambow', 'The Maze Runner' and 'The Revenant', the latter of which had him up alongside Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hardy no less. A rich and diverse filmography right there, which has in many ways freed him from his somewhat reductive nickname of 'that Weird Eyebrow Actor'. Get yourself involved, it's a goodie and as interesting as it is entertaining. And for the love of gawd go see 'Detroit'!••••• WILL on TWITTER! - https://twitter.com/PoulterWill••••• WILL on INSTAGRAM! - https://www.instagram.com/willpoulter••••• WILL on IMDB! - www.imdb.com/name/nm2401020/••••• 'DETROIT' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFeWsDpy9y0•••••••••• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER! - https://twitter.com/Scroobiuspipyo•••••••••• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM! - https://www.instagram.com/scroobiuspipyo•••••••••• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS – https://scroobiuspip.backstreetmerch.com•••••••••• FOLLOW AND ENJOY!!!
