DrunkCast (Mk9) - Part 1 - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #182 Dec 20, 2017

Show notes

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to that ever so special time of year, the time when the Distraction Pieces Podcast gets buckwild crazy and lets its hair down and acts crazy inappropriately, only to completely forget what happened the previous night... Yes indeed - it's the Distraction Pieces Xmas DrunkCast 2017! You KNOW it's gonna be a heavy one... And if you weren't around for last year's debacle - well let this be your initiation...

Ladies and gentlemen, Team 3W, please get yourselves good and comfy for the drunkest of the drunk roundtables as your regular host Scroobius Pip is joined by Hardcore Listing homies and DrunkCast stallions Stu and Chris, the host of the wonderful Say Why To Drugs podcast Dr Suzi Gage (who will also be breathalising and cognitively testing the crew through the proceedings), John of The Dream Factory podcast on fact checking and note taking duties, Jim Smallman of the best wrestling podcast on the planet Tuesday Night Jaw (who is straight edge and will not be drinking), wrestler Jimmy Havoc (who will be drinking FOR Jim Smallman, bless him) and Jason Reed of the Stop And Search podcast to round out the powerful extended DrunkCast family! Oh you KNOW it's gonna go off... Let Pip's stern warning at the beginning set the tone, as you delve into the first of a handful of increasingly inebriated yammer-fests... They're doing it just for you, people. Please enjoy!

Alex Horne - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #181 Dec 13, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome and a third customary welcome to YOU, dear Distraction Pieces Podcast listener, and to the one hundred and eighty first episode! A damn fine, properly solid episode it is too, as your loyal host Scroobius Pip is joined by creator and star of 'Taskmaster' (and very good friend of Tim Key), Alex Horne!

Get involved, be you viewer or not, in this chat with Pip and Alex, and enjoy the ground covered between the pair of them. Situated out in the Taskmaster shed, which - as you will hear from time to time - lies directly under a flight path, hear Alex get down and dirty in the history, present and future of the hit Dave channel programme, which involves a good amount of Edinburgh Fringery, along with a hefty amount of Tim Key, and some good old fashioned messing about. From there on things get serious and the show is created, and you'll hear all about it - from the favourite stars, the evolution and theory of having the same team episode to episode, the awesome and bizarre tasks involved, his early days on the Big Brother series and how that fed the seeds of his ideas, a pizza interlude (don't worry, no 'misophonia' warnings on this one), his Horne Section, US and UK comedy, and just a great chat with a very nice person indeed. Wonderful stuff.

Films Of The Year 2017 - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #180 Dec 06, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY (word to Jim Bowen) of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Bless ya heart for tuning in, it is a pleasure to have you aboard. A full on cinematic marathon right here this week, as Pip finally presents his finely curated and handpicked selection of his favourite films of the year! All on his lonesome too - 100% Pip!

Now, before you go in - know this: this is PIP'S LIST. Pip. This is not your list. These are not the country's favourites. These are not the world's favourites. They are not in order of box office takings, Rotten Tomatoes ratings, none of that. So this list is not wrong, faulty or incorrect - it's Pip entirely personal list of his favourite films of the year. This naturally means you are ENTIRELY FREE to have your own list, and heartily encouraged to do so! It's a fun thing to do. But on this occasion, you are cordially invited to partake in Pip's rundown of his choice picks of the year, and good lord of COURSE you're not gonna agree with it all. And maybe you hate everything here! But that's the beauty of it - we're all on different paths, different courses, and let's rejoice in the diversity of each other's opinions, viewpoints and taste. For therein is the beauty of the universe. Yours, with love, the Distraction Pieces Podcast. YOU ARE BLESSED.

Rick Edwards - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #179 Nov 29, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 179 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Nothing but super scientifical madness this time round as we warmly welcome RICK EDWARDS of the 'Science(ish)' podcast to the chat-throne, to drop some gems and nuggets upon you regarding all things cinema and the science within...

Whether you know Rick from the Science(ish) podcast or the accompanying book, or none of the above, this is a really entertaining chat which goes through a few of the films he has delved into in the past - Ex Machina, The Martian and Interstellar are the stars of the show here which spark nice tangents about the supervillain Elon Musk, the ridiculous intricacies of invisibility, the hard science behind some films and the flimsy science behind others, and how Star Trek was a solid breeding ground of idea for future products and scientific innovation! Throughly entertaining, and some exciting subject for your mind to ponder - nerds and non-nerds (so, everybody I guess?) - this one's for YOU!!! Enjoy!

Ask Pip v.6 (Part 2) - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip Nov 24, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to your second Friday bonus in a row, concluding the two part 'Ask Pip' session from last week! But more importantly, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip - that's the important upfront business taken care of... Not in the French badlands this time but out in a park near Covent Garden, round the back of the Odeon and near the back of Denmark Street / New Tottenham Court Road if I'm not mistaken. There was a one-eyed cat who lived there a few years ago, and may still do... Such a weird little corner of Central London. Worth a peep though. Anyway - a nice little chatback with SoloPip, and a good catch up on all things Q&A - and Q's get A'd for real. I won't spoil the content here but it's a nice one on one jammy for certain. Please enjoy!

Jonny Lee Miller - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #178 Nov 22, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Episode 178 is standing outside your door this minute, so exercise politeness and cordiality and let it in won't ya - it's a goody this week, as Pip is joined by mighty acting talent Jonny Lee Miller!

Undoubtedly you will know Jonny from the film which basically everyone must have seen by now (I mean if you were at an age suitable for the 18 rating) Trainspotting - and if not then good god fix that up already... He played the standout character 'Sickboy', and went onto revisit the character a couple of decades later in T2. These were naturally not the bookends of his career, as you will hear in this full on sprawling conversation - you'll get the inside scoop on his very early days, where he effectively bypassed the conventional acting route and did things in his own way, his Kingston Upon Thames (bigups!) days, his old skool days doing the UK actor thing by starring in The Bill, Eastenders and all the classics, and his giant leaps from the UK to the US, and LA to NY, from squandering roles after Trainspotting but clawing back a glorious career and ultimately starring as Sherlock Holmes in the huge US series Elementary - AND starring as Sherlock more than anyone else ever! Power moves from Jonny - get involved and brush up on your Jonny Lee Miller trivia! Huge. Enjoy!

Ask Pip v.6 (Part 1) - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip Nov 17, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode... Hmmm... The episode with NO NUMBER! For this is an extra special bonus 'Ask Pip' edition of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! While Pip is out and about on location filming in a sleepy French town appropriately called 'Mello', where the dogs are fierce and the truckers do not obey public hygiene guidelines, he took time to get your questions in on Facebook and answer them out in the wilderness. He also bumps into fellow actor Adam along the way too which is a sweet little catch up halfway in! Nice. Loads of goodies in here from Pip's experiences in the acting world in general, current extreme shadiness in some areas of the film industry, backgrounds on Pip songs, MMA talk, whether looking for artists is a thing for him, and all manner of outside solo chatter, as he talks into his personal recorder with a Troll hair windguard. A very nice Adam Buxton podcast intro-esque style episode which you'll appreciate, minus Rosie the dog. There are dogs, but these ones are all barky and pepped up. You'll hear... Anyway - enjoy, this one's a nice one-to-one in an interesting little corner of the world. Enjoy!

Jean Grae - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #177 Nov 15, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome - and since this is a very special episode indeed, go ‘head - have another welcome - to the great and grand Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Episode 177 right here, hot and fresh out the kitchen and ready for your immediate devouring… Truly this episode is a long awaited one, hinted at for a good while… Well, paths have aligned, the gawds have shaken hands and good fortune has stood in the DPP path as we welcome Jeannie Grigio aka Jean Greasy aka JEAN GRAE!

Pip warns at the start that this may be something of a ‘love-in’ and two people sitting there agreeing with each other, which - sure - may be somewhat true… But what could be better than that? In a time where articles and blogs scramble for your attention with negative and shock headlines, let’s take some time to indulge in a straight up lovely, fully varied and positive chat with two very like minded people, who drop gems and jewels like their moth-eaten swagbags got caught on a nail along the way. As a fan, Pip exercises terrific restraint and does not fan-out at all - it’s perfect, as Jean delivers all manner of nuggets pertaining to her illustrious career as rapper, beatmaker/DJ, singer, writer, composer, actor… Too many jumping off points to start from, but somehow the whirlwind of awesomeness is contained in this humble podcast, and you’ll hear about all of it including internet nut-jobs, theoretical fans, how to manipulate a crowd and leave “blood on the stage”, her early days (you may remember her as ‘What What’, or her old crew Natural Resource), her attitude to today’s hip hop scene and how her limits outside of it are endless, the New York state of mind and the diversity within, super powers, dark sides, and TONS more… Prepare to offer this chat a standing ovation at the end, it’s golden!
