Show notes

Wokoma, Wokoma, Wokoma to another powerful episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! And now you know the guest this week but nevertheless, she deserves two mentions at the very least because she smashed it - it's Susan Wokoma! Welcome welcome welcome to EPISODE 143!A fantastic banter with Pip and Susan, going in deep on all aspects of her personal history, all the way back to her school days in a multicultural environment and the many positive influences that can have, to being encouraged to apply to the National Youth Theatre by a teacher, and her inspiring journey through to where she currently finds herself atop the summit of UK acting talent! A super entertaining journey, and a lovely chat bringing in tales of her parents, her neighbours (good, bad and conflicted), her teachers, mates, acting roles and general outlook on the whole path, as well as - of course - her killing it in 'Chewing Gum' and 'Crazyhead'. She'll make you smile for certain, and as her new pal you should keep...

Holly Ross (The Lovely Eggs) - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #140 Mar 08, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, and BOOM another welcome right there to this, episode 140 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Please welcome (three times) to the stage, Lancaster's indie Queen, frontwoman of The Lovely Eggs, Holly Ross!A glorious chat with a hardcore touring indie band veteran, and thoroughly enlightening at that - a proper peek behind the curtain (or the sliding door of a tourvan) at what goes on in the day to day, which is a ton of hard work in itself but add to THAT a small child and you have yourself a full plate with all the trimmings... But Holly shows it can be done, and this is a great, inspiring back and forth revealing some fantastic life-hacks for bands and parents in bands who are on the road, as well as a comprehensive rundown of Holly's history in the indie scene. Not only that, hear how awesome their fanbase is too! Get involved - get listening, Holly's ace and you should peep the music of The Lovely Eggs (and if you want to dig deeper, her old band Angelica too)....

Ancilla van de Leest - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #137 Feb 15, 2017

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome (or indeed, goedemorgen, goedemiddag, goedenavond) to Pip's second half of the Dutch mini-podcast tour! It may have been a mini round-the-houses whirlwind but he fit in a lot, and in episode 137 he is joined by none other than Ancilla van de Leest of the Pirate Party! Now Pip may be bending one of the self imposed rules he set a while ago by having a politician on the show, but there is a fascinating scene to be set and tale to be told in Ancilla's journey to where she currently finds herself. It's been a while in the works but they finally got to sit and talk, and here's your chance to sit in on an educational and hopefully inspiring discussion regarding the Pirate Party itself (in he Netherlands and worldwide), how it works, started, and functions (Pirate Bay is heavy in there), her own history and all that entails, how she got into politics (Pip is involved!!), net privacy and the huge problems which arise from that, digital rights, and all manner of deep political goodness...

Wim Hof - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #136 Feb 08, 2017

Show notes

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to episode 136 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A seasonally appropriate episode at that, as Pip is joined by the Ice Man himself, the legendary Dutch daredevil Mr Wim Hof! Don't get all wrapped and warm for this one - it's going to get incredibly frosty up in here...Chances are you may not already have made Wim's acquaintance - that's fine, for after this podcast you will most likely be digging around online and listening to his glorious cadence for hours to follow... If you have already broken the ice (skate over that pun) (and that one) with the man, you will surely be up to speed on The Wim Hof Technique, his apparently superhuman abilities to withstand cold, his infectiously positive and inspiring tones and talking points and his many accomplishments in the field of human endurance. Either way, this is a brilliant conversation (recorded from Wim's home in the outskirts of Amsterdam) where you will learn about his said method, how he came upon such...

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Shoutouts to Team 3W as always! Nothing less than three welcomes would suffice for this week's DPP greatness, as we proudly present to you the Distraction Pieces two-part Homelessness Special, featuring two wonderful podcasts for your listening pleasure. For the first instalment, please welcome (three times, you know the deal) Manchester's 'Mustard Tree', an organisation giving opportunity and dignity to the homeless through a huge variety of means. It's a very cold and none-too-friendly time of year temperature-wise, and now is a perfect time to address the issue that faces all too many people in the UK (and naturally, worldwide).Pip sits down with Soraya (communications manager up at Mustard Tree) and Anthony (a shining star of the Mustard Tree organisation and process) to gain insight into the who, the why, the where and how of the organisation. It's hugely inspiring and a breath of fresh air to hear homelessness discussed...
