This week is a powerful one, people - not sure how much we should give away at this point but you’re in for SEVERAL TREATS so do keep an eye on those Distraction Pieces Podcast feeds throughout the week… That’s all I’ll tell you for now. But - to kick things off correctly, today is the day when Pip goes through in painstaking detail his debut album with Dan Le Sac - yes indeed, ANGLES is the topic of todays ‘Behind The Album’ episode! The ‘statement of intent’ album right here - whether you know the whole setlist or maybe just ‘that one song’, this will serve you well as a commentary and will surely inspire you to go through the crates and listen again. So listen to it now, later, whatever order works, but certainly pair this episode with the full album if you can!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

Pip joins forces this week with the incredible actor TAHAR RAHIM!

You may have been introduced to him through the astonishing ‘Un Prophete’, and most recently you may have seen trailers for the new project ‘The Mauritanian’ - whatever the case, get better acquainted with this awesome human who goes boldy into the craft with a fearlessness and courage that translates directly through the screen. He goes into detail about the lockdown and the effects in him and the movie industry, his relationship with Mohamedou Slahi upon whom his latest release ‘The Mauritanian’ is based - and his experiences being detained in Guantanamo, truth in suffering and mirroring that in performance, rhythm and musicality of language (and different languages), The Eddy, auditions, cinematic antics which ultimately led to a career and also a low-key redemption, and he speaks with Pip about a handful of his other projects too. Mad enjoyable.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

Another overdue one right here but somehow the perfect time to connect, this one’s a powerful catchup with Pip and one woman podcast squadron RENAY RICHARDSON!

Renay is the CEO of Broccoli Content, and the Twitter bio says it all: “Production company creating opportunities for minority talent” - which gives you a strong idea of what’s happening over there in the Broccoli towers. Renay put together a five point pact last year on equality in audio, which ruffled feathers that needed ruffling, but also truly made bonds, bridges, and presented a positive and healthy agenda for the audio world. Breaking through the wall around the time of the George Floyd murder and surrounding strength that arose in the aftermath, it’s all the more poignant and really stood to shake up the industry, whether Renay was expecting it or not! So please, get to know Renay all the better and hear about what happened last year, what happened before, and what is coming along in the future. With the help of Broccoli Content, it all looks a bit healthier that’s for sure.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

It’s been a minute getting this one ready, as he and Pip go way back but the time has finally come - people, please welcome the airwave ray of sunshine NIHAL ARTHANAYAKE!

Less ‘overdue’ and more ‘inevitable’, this one, as the two have some ace history together and have been in similar orbits for a good while. It’s a great time to catch Nihal, as thoughts have taken shape over the past year of pandemical times and while it’s not far removed enough to have that crystal clear clarity, it’s been enough time to get a picture of things and read the room a bit. So there’s that up top, but keep it locked for the behind the scenes music science - especially if you’re a hip hop head (mmm maybe of a certain vintage!), as this will make you smile a lot. Nihal used to rap and has been in the game for years (to quote Biggie, it made him an animal), and you’ll hear some ill stories and dope recollections but all backed up. As Nihal say, “Don’t get it twisted” - we shan’t, Nihal. Don’t you worry. ENJOY!

Keep it locked, world - you're about to enter the mind of the one ASIM CHAUDHRY!

...also known as Chabuddy G from People Just Do Nothing (or 'Girthy Geeza' on Twitch) - yes people, this is a wonderful meeting between Pip and Asim, as they catch up initially about all things Twitch with Asim

being very much in the pocket of Big Streaming. Just messing - he runs a very awesome channel on there which you are strongly encouraged to partake in! From there, the breacrumb trail is perfectly laid as the two go in on all things streaming, work, acting, beat battles, truth in characters, accents and awkwardness (and outright racism), the history and heritage sewn into accents, enduring a bout with that 'rona, Bandersnatch and just all things worth speaking on. It's a great chance to get to know Asim in the solo sense, so please enjoy episode 367 with the man himself!

Adam Buxton (Mk 2) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #366 Feb 10, 2021

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

It's the second coming of the ramblechat master, the long awaited return of ADAM BUXTON everybody!

Were we ever so young... Episode 66 was the last time Pip and Adam met up, back in those faded Kodachrome / Polaroid days of wayback where everything smelled like freshly cut grass, and there was a slight chill in the air but you could feel that Summer was around the corner, we were all having picnics, I think some of us went skinnydipping in the sea at one point, we had cake... Anyway, it was a while ago, is what I'm getting at. Well, please re-welcome podmaster Adam Buxton who has been grinding out there to ridiculous degrees, be it with podcasting or authoring, and it's a real pleasure to hear Pip and Buckles catch up on everything that's been happening in the meantime. And it's been a lot. It's also quite significant that it's happening on Zoom, as they would both be resolute about not recording remotely in the early days of podcast making. This one's got it all, from personal moments and grief, to writing, parenthood, age, some extra levels to the ongoing Tom Cruise mythology, Pixies, dads, mums, and all the stuff you would want to hear. It's brilliant and a proper podcast treat for you to snack on out there or indoors, if it's still snowing or not. Whatever you want to do. Live your life innit. Enjoy!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

Another very long awaited, most anticapted episode this week as Pip chats with old pal and esteemed multi-disciplined podcaster / poet / author MUSA OKWONGA!

But it doesn’t even end there, as you’ll hear - and why should it? Musa has played the long game, the marathon approach, with his career and we find him at a place of peace and spiritual restfulness. A fortune place to be in right now, but rest assured as his good vibes will resonate with you and find their way into your own pulse and rhythm. Long term listeners and fans will certainly know Musa as a kind of ‘godfather’ of this podcast (he comes up on here a lot!), and it’s a treat to hear about his zig zags, being good but not the best at everything, the early formative poetry years, being Pip’s end of level boss in those days of wayback, gruelling rehearsals, his father and the story of his incredible life, Eton schooling, Ed Sheeran, being ambitious in investment of time and seeing the UK from Berlin where he makes his home. Jam packed and ready to go - you’ll like this one folks, enjoy!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

Well overdue conversation times for you this week as Pip catches up with the brilliant actor STEVEN CREE!

With a mutual friend in Films To Be Buried With homie Brett Goldstein (and many more mutual pals besides), you know you’ll be in great company if you’re unfamiliar with Steven. From the beginning on, it’s all Grade A material ranging from necessary pandemic catchups (this was recorded around Xmas 2020 by the way), divisions of society and culture and far more, Scottish independence, leaders, the reaction to the pandemic revealing the potential reaction to climate change, said Mr Goldstein, accents, his iPhone series, Mick Foley, Outlander, positives of social media and avoiding genre tropes in favor of realism. It’s got it all. Now say “edited it together” 10 times fast.
