Kunt & The Gang • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #425 Dec 17, 2021

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by Essex comedy songsmith KUNT & THE GANG!If you know him, you KNOW him. If not? You’ll be in for some fun surprises, as Kunt is a bit of a legend on the comic song scene. If you fall into the “not” category, I’m confident you’ll be hitting the Youtube links and investigating further. Armed with a Casio keyboard or a full band, depending on the circumstances, he’s responsible for a bunch of classics but more recently for the almost Xmas single ‘Boris Johnson Is A F*cking C*nt’. What’s on the books for 2021? ‘Boris Johnson Is Still A F*cking C*nt’. Can’t argue with that now can we. Hear the story from day one, including early origins with podpal Stu Whiffen, haters being good for business, being in a band with 13 other members, and his recent mad times with said singles blowing up. Mad stuff, you’ll enjoy. Mark Gatiss • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #424 Dec 15, 2021

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by full on stage and screen multi-talent MARK GATISS!

“Full on multi talent” merely scratches the iceberg, as Mark is deeply immersed in almost every angle of the television and film game. An actor, screenwriter, producer, director and more, you’ll more than like be seeing a lot of him this Xmas as The Amazing Mr Blunden meets our screens. You’ll surely also see more of him in everything else he’s been involved with too, as stated above - he’s heavily involved! Here he and Pip cover a ton, including the state of the country, acting and fashions, source material for older works, clicking ‘send’, the performance of the director, and adjusting scripts on the fly. Or rather, on the curb. Marvellous, enjoy!

The Amazing Mr Blunden, available on Christmas Eve on Sky Max and streaming service NOW.

Will Sharpe • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #423 Dec 10, 2021

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the brilliant actor and director WILL SHARPE!

A very rare appearance from Will, who is not usually one for the podcast format, so consider yourselves duly treated! And what a treat it is, as he and Pip connect on tales and fun from the acting world, in and behind the scenes. Will has a ton of hours in the game, and it’s a valuable listen from beginning to end. From being a new dad for the second time, to his Japanese roots, working in Japan and London back to back (and surprising language barriers), Footlights, alternative truths, and his work including Landscapers, Giri / Haji, Flowers, Black Pond, The Electrical Life Of Louis Wain, and all the gold in the middle that you could imagine. You’ll enjoy!

Kiell Smith-Bynoe • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #422 Dec 08, 2021

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by one of the UK’s shining acting stars KIELL SMITH-BYNOE!

…but Kiell is not only an actor, as you shall find out. He’s been putting in power moves all across the board for a minute, and maybe in a parallel universe we’d see him sharing stages with old mates Tinchy, Wiley and Skepta, but we’re lucky enough to witness his rise on the screen. The grime model taught him well of course, as he became aware of what was possible in the wider world, and we get to hear how he plotted his course - originating in Newham - from Man Like Mobeen to Ghosts to Stath Lets Flats and much much more. And we also hear about a truly emotional on set catering experience. Let some sunshine into your life!

We.Were.Lizards. (Part 2) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #421 Dec 03, 2021

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the entire We Are Lizards crew for the conclusion!

(this is the concluding part of a 2 part special, so if you haven’t heard part 1, now would be a great time to catch up!)

What is We.Are.Lizards, you ask? What, are you kidding me right now? Just playing. For the uninitiated, We.Are.Lizards is the legendary club night founded, developed and evolved by Pip and the whole entourage right here. It took place in the Book Club in Shoreditch, featuring the resident cast here but also a splendid selection of very special guests who you will surely be aware of… Zane Lowe, DJ Yoda, Don Letts, Lindy Layton, ah come on, so many more. But as with most regular club nights, to many it became a high point of the month, a family, dare I say a home, but also a meeting point and proper hot spot for so many people as well. It was always well attended, staffed, and co-ordinated, and the behind the scenes life is as fascinating and awesome as the on the scene one. So please, get yourself appropriately prepared for a glimpse into a brilliant club night, and hear the origin story from the people who made it (aside from the punters of course!) - PART 2 OF 2!

Irvine Welsh • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #420 Nov 24, 2021

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by Leith’s finest, the amazing writer IRVINE WELSH!

There is no doubt you are familiar with Irvine’s work - maybe you’re a deep diver and know all the novels and work he’s been involved in, or maybe you’ve seen Trainspotting and that’s all. Well, either way, that’s awesome because now’s your chance to get even better acquainted with him as he joins Pip for a chat for us all to enjoy! It’s a goody of course, as Irvine goes into a lot of bits and pieces including the majesty of Edinburgh, his Leith upbringings, fame and dipping in and out of it, storytelling and how it got into his system from an early age, going from music to writing, audiences being more capable of understanding accents and dialect than some media think, social media and more - of course, including Trainspotting and his new series Crime.
