Charlie Cooper • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #473 Sep 13, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by actor and writer extraordinaire CHARLIE COOPER!

A long awaited one right here, as long term listeners will already be aware of how big a fan Pip is of This Country... Charlie was one of those responsible for the whole thing (along with his sister Daisy May), but obviously NOT ONLY that... As you'll hear, there's a ton going on with Charlie, including a starring role in See How They Run alongside some insanely great acting talent (none of which is lost on him), and together he and Pip cover all things fantasy football-style casting, the Tom George comfort animal, the process of ideas and realising them, refining scripts on the go, working with Daisy and Tom, his roles in Stath Lets Flats and Avenue 5 (in front of the camera or in the writers room), and everything else. A deep one which covers the fun of it all alongside the hard work involved. Enjoy!

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by director BABAK ANVARI!

See Wednesday's episode for the George side of things but this is the other side of the camera right here! Pip and Babak unexpectedly go back a way, as you'll hear up top on this episode, and from then on it's all about Babak - from their surprise meet at Wireless around 2008, to his background in film assisting with the editor's mind of it all, short films, his film Under The Shadow, childhood in Iran and adulthood in the UK, the masochism involved in film making and a huge amount more. The perfect accompaniment to Wednesday's goodness! Enjoy.

George MacKay • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #471 Sep 06, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by UK acting hero GEORGE MACKAY!

A brilliant chat with one of the stars of the excellent 'I Came By', which is available to your ears and eyes right now in your local [indie] cinema and Netflix! He and Pip share some interesting pinpoints, in a real and cinematic sense, but also connect on the greater art of acting, film making and this whole life thing in general. Street art, starts and ends of characters, deeper revelations in the characters worlds, social media and the beauty of not being there for it, performance, osmosis learning, context clues for acting and actors and deciding what to take on board himself, industry parents and how he got into the whole thing... Awesome stuff, and look for the bonus ep on Friday!

John Bradley West • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #470 Aug 30, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by UK acting superstar JOHN BRADLEY WEST!

We caught up with young John back in October 2016, in those sepia toned and tobacco-tinted days of episode 120, no less... Well, as always, you can only imagine how much life has happened in those interviening 6 years, but John is back to bring us all back to speed! From the weird end time of his tenure on Game Of Thrones and the funky feelings of that period, to getting a call from J-Lo, to Moonfall and Marry Me, social media, creativity, The Railway Children and all the rest, this is a goody as you can imagine with so much happening. Enjoy the company of John Bradley West!

Paddy Considine • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #469 Aug 23, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by national acting treasure and Distraction Pieces friend PADDY CONSIDINE!

You may remember back all those years to 2015, when Paddy made his first appearance on the podcast... A huge amount of life has happened since then, and you're about to hear - well, condensed into an hour or so - all about it. We find Paddy in a good place, which is lovely to hear, and delve into the past again, in a number of ways, to hear about past advice he gave Pip in the first podcast appearance, class, revelations on Broadway, what is available to you with the appropriate outlook, that old ever present bastard of imposter syndrome, on set relationships, directing one's self, his past films including Journeyman and Tyrannosaur, House Of The Dragon, Riding The Low, and all the other extra trimmings tha come with all of that. A fantastic one which you'll love, and you're always in good company with Paddy - enjoy!

Frankie Boyle • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #468 Aug 16, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by comic, host and writer FRANKIE BOYLE!

I mean, multi-hyphenate would kind of sum it all up to some degree. This a very welcome catch up with Frankie, as he and Pip check in on everything since September 2016 - so not much to talk about then really...? So let's just say that the tip of the iceberg is approached at the very least, with a lot of Frankie goodness to indulge in including his new Fringe show, not relying on fallbacks, the scourge of essentialism, the path of optimism, Left Wing melancholia, dislike for the emphatic, how we read, Becket plays, meeting greater themes in play through real life mortality experiences (wow that's a book title right there), representation and so much more. Excellent stuff. Enjoy.

Sex With Charlie & Nina • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #467 Aug 09, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by new Distraction Pieces Network signees, the fabulous duo of CHARLIE & NINA!

From - obviously - their podcast entitled Sex With Charlie & Nina. But previously of the podcast 2 Girls 1 Shop, in case you were fortunate enough to catch that one... The joy of the new one though is that it truly requires zero back story. Charlie and Nina talk about sex. And now you're all caught up! But if you are new to their world, you're in for true treats and knowledge and wisdom, as well as a lot of incredible back catalogue too. On this episode though, it's a fantastic chance to get to hear from them about all things past, present and future, including how they met, what got them into podcasting (or 'who' - in this case, mostly Stu Whiffen), building up a backlog of amazing stories, sex positivity, the 50 Shades effect, dealing with attitudes of all sorts, their experiences in dealing with the public in a shop and social media environment, and all the rest that you would want to hear about. It's awesome, and a perfect introduction - or reintroduction - to Charlie and Nina!

Birthday Party w/ Stu Whiffen & Kunt (Part 2) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #466 Aug 03, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

It's Pip's birthday and the party is going OFF in the Whiff Inn, with guests STU WHIFFEN and KUNT! Part 2 of 2!

A glorious nostalgic celebration of music from the three esteemed 80's fellows, who will brighten your day and absolutely unlock a ton of songs you weren't expecting to get stuck in your head today but, so it goes. It's like a naughty friend of the Drunkast episodes so if you know those, you'll know what you're getting into. If you DON'T know those, well, one of the guests is called Kunt so I don't know what other signifiers you need really. So take a break, or do something mindless while you listen, and allow these three mischievous fellas into your life for an hour or two.

Kerry Godliman • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #465 Jul 26, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by comedian and actor KERRY GODLIMAN!

Top class material from Kerry and Pip, as the two catch up like old pals (which in a sense they are) and get things off to a perfectly familiar start. From all things tech updates, to the size of Glastonbury (but WHICH town is it the same size as...?), making complex stuff sound understandable, Treadstone, bridging the worlds of comedy and acting. people in said worlds finding out about the other, representation and limits, working with Ricky Gervais and all that entails, a not in-person surprise appearance from a very special guest (no spoilers), and tons more greatness. Fully enjoyable, get to it!
