Maisie Adam • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #483 Nov 16, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the brilliant and hilarious comic MAISIE ADAM!

A delightful episode which goes into so much in not that long of a time, but certainly enough to get you fully up to speed on all things Maisie. So much ground is covered, including the Brixton Academy level of popularity, the cost of living crisis not being lost on her in relation to people turning up at shows, a misleading non-recommendation for 80's Melbourne passed on from her dad, the shifting sands of the pandemic timeline, Pip guesting on her podcast decades ago in 2019, growing up in a dip, old stories from the past, auditioning and the road to acting which became the road to comedy, surprise Southend appearances from hip hop royalty, and what's happening now. Awesome stuff. Do not let this one pass you by, team.

Alistair Green • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #482 Nov 09, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the hilarious and great comic ALISTAIR GREEN!

You could also add actor to that list of accolades as Alistair is busy in front of the camera too, as you will hear. Kicking off with heavy metal nights and the tour t-shirt, it's a fun slip n' slide down the road of tangents as Pip and Al get down to the business of social media and rolling news being too quick for a comic hot take, making videos, creative process, making situations into comedy, the Prince Charles Cinema screening of his videos as a film (and the wonder of the cinema itself), conspiranoia, Alan Partridge and trying to resist goofing while a take is in progress, Ted Lasso and tons more. Awesome stuff and definitely one for Al heads and those who are yet familiar - much fun! Enjoy.

Adam Kay • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #481 Nov 02, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the multi-hyphenate comic, author and doctor ADAM KAY!

Well maybe doctor in the 'present' tense might not be strictly true but it's a nice trio right there. A really great chat with Adam and Pip as they get deep into the vault of doctoring and the world of medicine. But with a definite truth-telling angle - not to dish the dirt by any means, but really to help the public understand more the position that those working in healthcare are in. It can often be misrepresented very efficiently, so it's heartening to hear the side of it that we're not always exposed to. Adam delivers his recollections with a delightful world weariness that is so endearing and interesting, and it's awesome to hear about what he's been up to in the writing world as well as all the rest. I mean, the term "multi hyphenate" is thrown around SO recklessly these days... Enjoy!

Nikesh Patel • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #480 Oct 25, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the excellent actor NIKESH PATEL!

A great ep with a nice instant camaraderie from the opening moments onwards, which serves as a lovely antidote to otherwise maddening times in the local and global sense. Nikesh has been in front of the camera for a minute, and leaving a trail of fans, happy faces and more of that camaraderie at the end of each project - you will have seen him on variously sized screens over the years, but now's the time to hear his story from the origin to the present. And let's just say that this episode was spiritually overseen by Guz Khan.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by acting heavyweight SOPE DIRISU!

Gangs Of London, His House, His Dark Materials, Humans... Sope's BUSY, and has been putting in work on the stage and screen for a good minute. Here's a perfect opportunity to hear from the person behind the roles, in a really nice and relaxed but satisfyingly detailed chat which covers so much. Process, origin story, the notion of self tapes and how to identify authenticity in yourself, appealing to those without sight and those without hearing, past roles, action and combat and his athletic background, Gangs Of London of course and TONS more. Awesome stuff, you'll enjoy for sure.

Jim Bob (Carter USM) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #478 Oct 11, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by UK indie treasure JIM BOB (Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine)!

While 'listeners of a certain age' will get instant nostalgia feels from the very mention of Carter USM, this episode is by no means one for them and them alone! For Jim Bob is an eloquent and thoughtful musician with very good insights and understandings on the music scene with experience in the game. Carter blew up on the UK pop scene back in the late 80's / early 90's, and you may remember Jim Bob rocking that wildly influentional haircut if nothing else, but it's fascinating to hear about his time in the scene back then and to draw parallels with Pip about the game now, and what's happened in between. Including run ins with The Rolling Stones and Philip Scofield. A ton to enjoy, and maybe now's a great time to go back through the back catalogue with fresh ears... Enjoy!

Lauren Pattison • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #477 Oct 04, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by wonderful comic LAUREN PATTISON!

Lauren had an amazing run at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, to which Pip shall attest, and this is a huge awesome chat between the two which will cover everything involved! By everything, of course that entails Lauren's childhood and upbringing, influences, process, road to professional status, proper proper Newcastle, the anxiety of ticket sales, and so much general life goodness in between. What's so cool is hearing about all the actual bits in between the performances - the stuff that underpins the attitude and the performance. But you get everything else too of course! Amazing - follow Lauren's moves and catch a show if you can, you shall not regret it. Enjoy!

Jordan Gray (2022) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #476 Sep 27, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined, once again, for the universal good of podcast listeners, by JORDAN GRAY!

It's a much requested and long awaited return, and so much has happened in Jordan's world since the last visit in actually quite a short span of time. We catch up with Jordan hot off their triumphant return from Edinburgh Fringe which proved to be a VERY full on month of highs, and the two catch up and check in on all of that, as well as The Voice, shows and scripts and coming up with material, new audiences, class, investing in yourself, a uniquely Marvel experience which is just wonderful and you have to hear, what's coming next, and just all sorts of good vibe material that we've come to expect and DEMAND from Jordan over past DPP appearances! So enjoy, and be sure to check all Jordan's shows coming up too. You shall not be disappointed.

Kaitlyn Dever • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #475 Sep 20, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by acting superstar KAITLYN DEVER!

If you are unaware of Kaitlyn in your adventures through the wide world of broadcast media, prepare to make fast friends with a true great, and an absolute gem of a person at that. Kaitlyn's been putting down serious moves since childhood, including a Shakespeare stint at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts for those pondering), and her filmography is stellar - ranging from Justified, to Dopesick, to Unbelievable, and more recently Ticket To Paradise (starring alongside Julia Roberts and George Clooney, where the cinema screen actually cracks midway through from so much gorgeous). This is a lovely chat, properly engaging and it's such a treat to hear Kaitlyn's story. OH and as Pip hints at in the intro, prepare for a Kaitlyn fact that will blow yer mind. She casually peppers it in there but thankfully Pip mashes on the brakes and reverses and double takes seamlessly. Enjoy! You shall!

Tom George • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #474 Sep 15, 2022

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by director TOM GEORGE!

The second in a two part podcast mini series I guess you could call it, where Pip catches up with one of the people immediately involved with the murder mystery See How They Run. It also happens that the two people in said mini podcast series were ALSO immediately involved with This Country - a mockumentary of which Pip is a card-carrying superfan of. This is a Friday bonus episode featuring director Tom, who goes into a ton of the awesome behind the scenes business in creating This Country and See How They Run, as well as his past and future, and so much more - I mean if you like anything mentioned in this writeup you'll be listening already so I'll let you crack on. Enjoy!
