Josie Long • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #525 Aug 01, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined for the second time in many years by comic star and friend of the show JOSIE LONG!

It's been a bunch of years since Josie last joined the Distraction Pieces Podcast, and only through reasons of busy-ness and life's carousel is it that we haven't seen a return for a bit. Well it's a welcome reunion as, with all reunion episodes, so much life has happened in the interviening years. Josie's now a 2x mother, and has had a film out (both incidents we are brought up to speed on), but there's a bunch of other bits and pieces too. Existential and present, political and social, interior and exterior, neurotypical and neurodiverse, and swimming! Prepare to catch up on all of it, as Josie brings the uniquely great energy and green lights to the table. ENJOY!

Sasha Lane • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #524 Jul 25, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the truly fabulous acting star SASHA LANE!

By now you will have surely seen at least one of Sasha's starring roles in Loki, American Honey, How To Blow Up A Pipeline or presently The Crowded Room - but if not, you'll absolutely want to go and check on what Sasha's up to after hearing this chat. While mainly focusing on the matter at hand which is the last two projects (Pipeline and Crowded, for brevity), you'll hear a ton about Sasha's process, working relationships and working boundaries, and all that comes with the work on screen. There's such a lot happening on said screen and behind the scenes so it's great to get an honest perspective on things, which is what Sasha truly delivers.

* BUDDY NOTE!

The sound on Sasha's side is a little tricky sometimes and at worst, a little hard to make out. I've done a fair job and retained what I could, but this was the only option we had - luckily our ears are tough little things and can get used to this sort of stuff, but apologies for a slightly less easy listen than you've become accustomed to. Just wanted to let you know that's all. XX

Lloyd Griffith • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #522 Jul 18, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the Grimsby comic legend LLOYD GRIFFITH!

You'll know Lloyd from hus various outings and aboutings, and maybe more prominently from Soccer AM - but that is far from the extent of Lloyd's talents of course. You might catch him out on the road casually tearing down arenas with Jack Whitehall, of which you'll hear all about right here - including some very pertinent thoughts on the actual realistics of playing huge venues as opposed to smaller ones. In fact you'll hear a lot of this, various thoughts and perspectives on comedy and the behind the scenes of it all that you don't really hear a lot of. There's also some very interesting Edinburgh Fringe stuff too which offers a lot that you might not hear in the usual spots. And community, and football. Anyway - enjoy it all, and if you don't know Lloyd yet, as always with Distraction Pieces, prepare to make a new pal. Enjoy!

Pom Klementieff • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #521 Jul 11, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the amazing action superstar POM KLEMENTIEFF!

An absolute treat of an episode as we meet Pom in full fighting form, ready for a full on packed conversation branching out onto so much of her inspiring career but leaving enough for next time too! Basically - the surface is scratched but the iceberg has much below the surface, to smash a couple of metaophors together. Pom's been involved in a lot of cinema and always delivers huge performances, obviously including Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, but along with the Guardians films, Suicide Squad, Westworld and loads more. Everything including process, hopes and dreams, basketball games with Spike Lee, working with Simon Pegg and Tom Cruise, and SO much more. Seriously - if you don't know Pom yet, get to know. A great one!

Rhys James • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #520 Jul 04, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the excellent and always funny comic RHYS JAMES!

You'll have encountered Rhys on a variety of TV goodies over the years, and surely have caught a live show or two along the way, but this is a perfect chance to join in on a catch up with he and Pip in good old fashioned podcast form. It's a great one which branches out onto all sorts of tangents as a good podcast is known to do, from process, to live shows, to the eternal conflict of the advertsing dollar versus artistic integrity, to the Fringe, to the effects of blowing up on TV and how it shapes an audience, and just about everything in between. A proper in depth one and super fun, and lovely to hear Rhys quoting Pip tracks along the way too! Who could be mad at that. ENJOY!

Pride Film Club • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #519 Jun 27, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is flying solo to bring you some cinematic hits and favourites for PRIDE FILM CLUB!

A straight from the heart celebration of queer joy and cinema for this episode, folks.

I'm sure this goes without saying but if this presents an issue for you, we might suggest proceeding with an open heart to broaden to your love for humanity. But failing that - with all due respect - this isn't really the home for you. As with Pip's sibling podcasts for the Films Of The Year, these picks of the LGBTQ+ variety are from Pip, and not speaking for every single person, nor are they selections that dismiss all other cinema! But they will definitely provide you with a wonderful dip into the rainbow of film that's out there and has been operating for maybe longer than you might think. Some you will know, maybe some you won't, but keep a writing utensil handy as there isn't a list for this - you're gonna have to follow along, old skool style. Enjoy and be well, and Happy Pride to you all!

Bridget Christie • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #518 Jun 20, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by comic, author and actor BRIDGET CHRISTIE!

A really lovely chat and catch up (and missing piece of the long-term Distraction Pieces puzzle) with Pip and Bridget, which comes at a perfect time in sync with Bridget's new series on Channel 4 'The Change'. You'll hear all about the amazing process of getting it off the ground and what else is involved in getting pitches picked and developed (it's a side of the industry which is by no means an easy world), but in hearing about The Change you'll also get a perfect insight into the greater universe of Bridget and where she's at currently. It's all a perfect confluence and meeting of a lot of experience, life and timing, and the timing is all pretty much perfect it seems. Enjoy this awesome and very inspiring conversation and do not miss The Change on Channel 4!

Trevor & Simon • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #517 Jun 13, 2023

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the all time Saturday morning TV comedy duo TREVOR & SIMON!

"Never again, boys..."

Of course, that description is nothing if not reductive, as they have done so much over the years that is way more than just that - but I think a good, hefty wedge of us will have become fast friends with the two from seeing them over multiple Saturday mornings on Going Live or Live & Kicking. Well, if your question is "...but what are they doing now?" - you're about to find out, along with all the other stuff you may not know or have never been told. They're a lovely pair, and what they do comes from a lovely place with good vibes and a progressive mindset, which - when you think back to what they were doing - was always present and shining through. From their Manchester days to the prop-comedy work to the present day, enjoy this delightful catchup with the lovely lads. Oh, and the origin of Swing Your Pants (probably should have started here with that).
