Do you ever feel like you are your own worst critic? Today on the podcast we are talking all about cultivating self compassion and, most importantly, self worth with licensed clinical psychologist, Adia Gooden. We all have food issues w/ Virginia Sole Smith Jan 22, 2020
    Show notes

What’s one good book that you COULD. NOT. PUT DOWN. in 2019? For me, it was The Eating Instinct by journalist & author, Virgina Sole-Smith. In this book, Virginia visits kitchen tables around America to tell her own story, as well as the stories of women recovering from weight loss surgery, of people who eat only nine foods, of families with unlimited grocery budgets and those on food stamps. The book is a deep dive into how we all learn to eat in today’s toxic food culture. In today’s episode we discuss: how Virginia got into this work (it started when her newborn stopped eating) and how Virginia’s relationship with food evolved throughout the years. We also explore how social media has contributed to our heightened stress around food, how to navigate food struggles with kids, and things you can do to make sure you’re not projecting your own body image issues onto your children. How to Navigate Comparing Yourself to Others w/ Marci Evans Jan 08, 2020
    Show notes

Do you compare yourself with others? (Raises hand.) Our podcast guest this week, Marci Evans, spoke about social comparison theory at our annual nutrition conference, and it was hands down the most powerful presentation I have ever been to. Social comparison theory states that individuals determine their own social and personal worth based on how they stack up against others. In some cases, comparison can be helpful, but more often than not, it’s bad for our wellbeing. If you have ever compared your success, body image, relationship status, friendships or even living situation to anyone else (especially on social media), you HAVE to listen to this episode. Tune in to learn: Which personality types tend to be more prone to comparing (hint: people who are empaths), what happens to our brains when we make these cross-comparisons, and concrete things you can do to compare less…starting NOW (and for free). Controversial Foods: Soy, Eggs, and Coconut Oil Dec 18, 2019
    Show notes

Soy. Coconut Oil. Eggs. We get asked about these foods a lot. Are they safe? Should they be avoided at all costs? Today we separate fact from fiction once and for all with Katherine Basbaum, a clinical dietitian for the Heart & Vascular Center at the UVA Health System. Katherine is the perfect person to talk to about this because she received her Master’s in Nutrition Communication at Tufts University, meaning she is good at breaking down the science into soundbites.
