Does Christmas Have Pagan Origins? Dec 22, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 602 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. Fear is very real these days and how do we as Christians, believers in Christ, keep our faith in these uncertain times. How can we connect our faith to very real and palpable fear that we feel in the world around us?

    2. What is the "gospel of the kingdom" that Jesus preached in Matthew 4:23? It sounds as if it is something different from the common use of the phrase "the gospel" or "the gospel of Jesus Christ" as it is used today.

    3. I am scared to death that I have committed the unforgivable sin. I heard one explanation of this saying that the unforgivable sin is simply denying Christ and then I heard that it is saying the same things that the religious leaders said about Jesus. Can you help clarify this for me?

    4. I love and appreciate Core Christianity, thank you both for all that you do. My question is: Is it true that Christmas is rooted in a pagan holiday? And if we want to celebrate the incarnation, then why does our celebration often look like the world's celebration of Christmas?

    1. I have a family member who will not forgive someone. Does unforgiveness affect their salvation in any way?

    2. What does "according to his works" mean in Romans 2? Is Paul contradicting himself when he talks about salvation being rendered "according to works"?

    3. What do I say to my pastor who only preaches about holy living and not the gospel?

Why It's OK to Have a Boring Testimony Dec 18, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 600 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. Why are the four beasts in Daniel's dream different than what is explained in Revelation?

    2. Since God is all-knowing, and since He also sent His Son for us, for whom or for what, precisely, is Jesus interceding?

    3. If I had spiritual mentors who led me the wrong way, and told me to do things that were wrong, did I sin too? At the time I was very naive, and still am because I have Asperger Syndrome. But now I know it was wrong, and I wonder about verses like Mark 9:42 and Leviticus 5:17.

    4. If the purpose of the cross was to redeem man and forgive sins, why do we see Jesus in the gospels forgiving people's sins? Why did Jesus need to go to the cross at all if he could forgive sins on earth?

    5. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins and was raised from the dead. My life is full of testimony, but I struggle with whether or not I have been made new. I do not have an awe-inspiring origin story of when I initially gave my life to Christ. I started to volunteer with youth, and I want to be positive and careful with what light I can shine.

    1. Why did Jesus curse the fig tree?

    2. Since Islam is an Abrahamic religion, does that mean that it is really a false religion?

    3. Is the 3rd-use of the law legitimate? It seems that if people have a good sense of justification by faith alone that the 3rd use of the law is not necessary.

What to Say When Friends Follow Charlatans Dec 16, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 598 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. 1. How do I deal with a Christian friend who has fallen for a lot of false teaching and is absolutely not teachable and gets offended if I don't agree with them?

    2. If God will blot out our sins, why do we have to give an account for every word that we speak?

    3. What is the biblical distinction between the spirit and the soul? What role do the heart and mind play in this relationship or distinction?

    4. My daughter told me about a lecture she heard in her college class where the professor said that God the Father in Christianity functions as a way to maintain patriarchalist structures in society, which causes harm to women. My daughter doesn?t seem convinced by her professor?s analysis, but I am wondering if there is a way to encourage her and affirm that God being a good Father doesn?t have to mean what the professor seems to be saying.

Why the Book of Revelation is Not a Code to be Cracked Dec 15, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 597 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. I grew up in a church that would go into a lot of details about the book of Revelation trying to discern if we were living in the last days and what it all meant, but in all those years I never understood the point or the big picture of what the book is about. What is the main thing I should get from reading the book?

    2. What role do good works play in a Christian's life as it relates to the final judgment?

    3. Does God sometimes leave us to struggle in our own sin? I've struggled with a certain sin for a long time, and I have prayed countless times that God lead me from the temptation and that the sin wouldn't have the hold on me that it has, and I still feel the same. I feel almost as if God is purposely having me struggle through it. Can you give me any advice?

    4. If we find ourselves breaking the 10 Commandments, does that mean we need to try harder to put our trust in Christ and simply repent more often?

Whom Did Jesus Die For? Dec 14, 2020

Episode 596 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. When Jesus said from the cross, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do," were those people forgiven, did Jesus die for their sins? Should we assume that all of the people in the crowd were eventually saved because Jesus forgave their sins?

    2. Between the time of Jesus' death and his resurrection, Jesus spoke with "those in prison." Who would they be, and what would have been the result of that?

    3. I'm really confused about discipleship. What is it, and what does it look like practically?

How to Answer Progressive Christianity Dec 11, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 595 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. I am wondering how Christians use the idea of "faith" to justify their beliefs. It seems that many other views and religions also tell their followers to just have "faith" to believe in their teachings. Is there anything else Christians can do to talk about their beliefs other than appealing to slogans like, "you just gotta have faith"?

    2. What do you think if Judas Iscariot, after returning the 30 pieces of silver and committing suicide, did Jesus die for his sins? Was he forgiven and taken to Heaven? God uses Judah's sin to play a huge and important, although unfortunate role, in our saving through the blood of Christ. Judas even regrets his actions. Does God save him? Does Jesus forgive him?

    3. Someone told me that repentance is no longer required for Christians because to repent we must look back to the law to find out what we are even repenting of and since the law is fulfilled that this is no longer necessary. What do you think?

    4. I am in a discussion with a person who has bought into Theological Liberalism: What's the ultimate, most concise resource for comprehensively addressing these issues? I love this person, and I long to see them come to rest in Christ.

Episode 594 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. Why did God choose Jacob over Esau or David over Saul when they were all moral screw-ups?

    2. I heard your answer to Jade about there not being any shame at the judgment seat of Christ for believers. I was wondering, what does that mean, then, for our works to be tested, and what we build on Christ will last, but what we build of hay will be burned and our souls will be saved but only as through fire? What does that mean that there is no pain at the judgment of believers before we reign with Christ?

    3. What do Paul and Jesus mean when they say that the bread and wine are Christ's body and blood? Is this metaphorical?

    4. Why are the 10 commandments all about telling us what we shouldn't do? Doesn't this focus our attention on negative traits instead of what we should be doing for one another and for God?

    1. The two of you have been writing hymns and songs for worship for many years now. In fact, we sing many of those hymns in the congregation that I pastor each Sunday. n light of all of that, what inspired you to write an album of hymns and lullabies for children?

    2. Are we supposed to lift our hands up as we sing praises or is that a preference?

    3. Is worship exclusively about music? I know that the bible says that we should glorify God with all of our lives. Is there a difference between worshipping on Sunday and worshipping God throughout the week in our daily lives?

    4. Many parents struggle with sharing resources with their kids that help build up their faith. Some resources, on the one hand, can feel cheesy, and on the other, might feel too uptight. I know you and Keith have children, how have you both cultivated an appreciation of worship in their lives?

    5. Does worship music in church foster appreciation for diverse cultures, and should a church incorporate different worship music styles to attract diversity in members?
